Why do they sell cars with low mileage?
A year old car - why are they being sold? What are the reasons and pitfalls
Now cars have increased in price, to put it mildly. Therefore, many people simply cannot afford to buy a new one from a dealership (even on credit). Against this background, the used car market looks advantageous! However, there are very tasty offers, for example, the sale of a one-year-old foreign car, with minimal mileage, an attractive price and equipment. HOWEVER! Why is it being sold, since many do not use it even for a year (ads for 8-10 months of operation are not uncommon). What are the pros and cons of such a purchase! EVERYTHING IS VERY UNSPECIFIC...

My article is based only on my personal experience, and often it is “really sad”. I have had cases when my friends sold such cars, and there were times when they bought them and then did not know what to do with them, because everything was very sad. Well, let's sort everything out, the positive and negative aspects, there will also be a video version at the end.
First, I want to go over the advantages of such a purchase. They exist and there are really a lot of them.
Pros of buying a one-year-old car
- The first advantage may be the price. Sometimes the price drops by about 20% (especially for larger, more powerful options). And if a person urgently needs money, you can get a big discount.
- Low mileage. A one-year-old car will most likely have a minimum mileage; every now and then the advertisements show the numbers 3000 - 5000, well, a maximum of 10,000 km.
- You receive it immediately. That is, you can come to the showroom and choose exactly the car you are looking at. And it’s rude to leave in an hour. The same with a private person, they arrived, they liked it - they bought it, no queues.
- As a rule, the following are already installed: - an alarm system, protection, a radio, all sorts of mats and nets, and there are also two sets of tires (winter and summer).
But the whole intrigue lies elsewhere, namely in the minuses. This is where the question comes to light - why they sell one-year-old versions.
Disadvantages of such a purchase
- Let's face it. Of course, there is an option that a person bought a car and stopped liking it. But, as a rule, there are very few of them, as psychologists say, less than 5-7 percent. Because before buying, a person subconsciously searches for information, watches videos, reads, goes on test drives, installs additional equipment, buys winter tires. Therefore, a person’s choice is conscious. Based on this, he is unlikely to get tired of the car in six months to a year.
- The sale of such a car is justified by accidents . And this is almost 90% of the reason for the sale of an almost new unit. Moreover, the worse the accident, the faster they try to sell after recovery - this is the reality. I myself know first-hand several acquaintances who, due to inexperience, crashed their cars, and after restoration they actually “sold them away.” Moreover, they were specifically broken, so they cut off their face, okay, if they did it at a good station, they still maintain the geometry, but what if it was Uncle Vasya from the garage? such a . ” Because it can really fall apart.
- Fighting off a car . Almost repeats with paragraph 2, but specially moved to a separate paragraph. There are quite “cunning” guys who buy cars with the goal of making money on it, and they buy expensive foreign cars. And then they begin to expose him to various accidents, then repairs and again an accident. All this is done in order to receive money from the insurance company. But repairs, very cheap using cheap Chinese spare parts, after a year it’s not a car, but just a construction kit . True, the shop is now being closed, the new OSAGO law implies repairs, not payments!
- Great wear and tear . YES, yes, you heard right. A lot of wear and tear can occur within a year. For example, I worked in a taxi or in delivery. Well, I’m generally silent about minibuses, like GAZELLE or FORD, on city routes, especially in the capital, these cars can cover 1,000 kilometers a day, which is 30,000 a month or 360,000 a year. Not bad? Now think about what condition such a one-year-old version will be in? As a rule, after a year they try to get rid of them by turning off the odometer, because all the juice has been sucked out of it. And if you buy it, you will have plenty of problems with it.
- Credit car . The next reason may be credit encumbrance. 100% not legal. I have already written about this. But I’ll repeat it again. Again, the “cunning” guys take out a car loan by making a minimum payment for it, usually 10% of the cost. The bank takes away their title because the car is pledged and cannot be sold. Everything seems to be fine. But these “cunning” guys go to the traffic police, where they issue a duplicate PTS, and the traffic police kindly issues it. Then, as a rule, a six-month or one-year-old car is sold. And the new owner just ends up with the money. And the trace of these “cunning” guys has already disappeared. Now it also seems like the shop is being closed, all encumbered vehicles should be in the traffic police database.
That's it. Guys, be careful when purchasing this option. Otherwise, you can lose both money and car (especially remember the scheme - point 5).
Some tips before purchasing
Now a few of my personal recommendations to avoid falling into the hands of scammers and scammers.
- If they sell such a car with low mileage, in the maximum configuration for a very cheap price, do not fall for it. There's most likely something fishy here.
- Ask the seller for a service book and be sure to get a manufacturer’s warranty. REMEMBER, now almost all manufacturers provide a warranty of 3 to 5 years or 100,000 - 150,000 kilometers. If the seller hesitates, stating something like “why is this guarantee needed.....”, “I don’t have this guarantee.” Something is not clean here anymore. The car is new (and if it is a foreign car), repairs are expensive! It is a rare person who will voluntarily withdraw from the guarantee. This means that it was removed from warranty, and most likely due to an accident. This is the easiest way to identify an emergency instance
- Buy cars, especially in the capital, from companies that are responsible for legal purity. They check them themselves, and in reality there are no credit cars in such companies. If you liked a second hand copy, but you don’t know its history. Contact a legal clearance company, there are a lot of them now. It’s better to give a couple of thousand and be calm than to lose everything, both money and car (point 5).
- Ask for PTS. If it’s not there, we don’t buy it! If the PTS margin says duplicate, then I wouldn’t buy it. Also in the PTS there is a seal of the company - the dealer who sold this car. You can remember this company and ask them for information. And the dealer knows all the ins and outs about his cars.
This is the information, I think it helped you. Now there is a video version, for those who don’t want to read!
Use these points and buy one-year-old cars - carefully. Although I understand that sometimes the temptation is very great. Your AUTOBLOGGER.

Why do they sell cars with low mileage and is it worth buying them?
Very often you can find advertisements for the sale of used cars with a strange nuance - low mileage, about 20,000 - 30,000 kilometers.
Several questions immediately arise for such advertisements: the first is why the car owner decided to sell the car if the mileage is so low, and the second is whether it is worth buying such a car, maybe there is something wrong with it?
Realistic reasons. If you look at all this realistically, then the reasons may not be so strange. The simplest thing is that the owner of the car has some financial difficulties and urgently needs money. Perhaps this car was purchased on credit and there is no way to pay the bills now.
Another reason for the sale may be that, let’s say, a large crossover was purchased, but the car enthusiast eventually realized that large cars are not for him or he simply does not need such a “gluttonous” car - there are a lot of costs for fuel alone.
The above reasons are quite real and logical, but in fact, such “reasons” sometimes hide banal excuses about problems with the car. You won’t be able to check whether a person really lacks money.
What could be hidden behind the “truth”? In fact, most often cars with such low mileage are sold because it is a car that was involved in an accident and restored. Many people know that this is exactly what dealers do, who like to inflate the price for a supposedly brand new car, although in fact it is junk restored after an accident.
There is also a possibility that a car with low mileage has some problems in the operation of individual systems or units. The car owner simply does not have enough time or money for constant repairs, so the only “sure” way is to sell the car so that it becomes a headache for another person.
Another very interesting fact is that you can often find on car sales websites those cars that were previously in the care of car dealerships as a test drive. Yes, such a car will have low mileage, because it was used as a sample. They also cost much less than the exact same car, but new. Although for little money you may get an almost new car, it will be shabby, because it has not been treated on ceremony, and it has not undergone the required running-in.
Therefore, the conclusion is simple - it’s up to you to decide whether to purchase such a car or not. It is likely that the seller will be an honest person and will tell you the true reason for the sale. But you still need to pay special attention to choosing a car.
Do you know of any other options for selling cars with minimal mileage?

In 11 years we drove 63 thousand. It's a Hyundai car and doesn't require any money. There’s simply nowhere to go especially and we have a lot of such cars in Siberia
I drove 120 tkm in the field in two years. I want to buy a RAV 4. Do you think I’ll get the mileage up to 35 tkm or not?
I sold a new Rio with mileage of 18,500. The sedan is just not my thing. Returned to Hatch
Niva completely failed the safety test, scoring 0 points out of 16.
Such news was discussed by car enthusiasts in one of the thematic communities on the Internet.
After the test, car enthusiasts stated that the safety level of the LADA 4×4, to put it mildly, does not correspond to an all-terrain vehicle. In addition, the result of the crash test according to the Euro NCAP rules, namely in terms of frontal impact at a speed of 64 km/h, the Niva scored 0 points out of 16 possible, bloggers write on social networks.
And even if the LADA 4×4 body seems strong and reliable, due to the displacement of the front left pillar by only 60 mm, this does not change the severity of possible injuries to the motorist. In addition, there is a high probability that hitting your head on the steering wheel will lead to death.
But this is nothing compared to the possibility of a passenger getting a traumatic brain injury from hitting the glove compartment lid and subsequent fracture of the ribs. All this was the reason for such a low rating.
But the crash test results were nowhere to be found, nor was there any information about whether the updated LADA 4×4 had become safer. Internet users have no doubt that all this was done only in order to successfully pass the frontal crash test at a speed of 56 km/h, and in no way to actually solve the problem.
The very low rating alarmed the owners of such cars, since safety is most important for most. It is for this reason that motorists believe that AvtoVAZ should resolve this issue.
Can the action of a traffic police officer be considered a violation when he refuses to demonstrate to the driver a video-recorded violation of the Traffic Rules?
Many car owners quite rightly consider such behavior to be grounds for obtaining the opportunity to cancel the drawn up protocol, with the imposition of a fine for violation.
Using a similar method. Traffic police officers most often use such means when serving in “fed” places, for example, in which shortcomings in the application of road markings or road signs force drivers to often violate traffic rules. Previously, this method was justified due to violations of the established speed limit. Now they have almost completely switched to implementing the article on “entering the lane of oncoming traffic.” In fact, many people have absolutely no desire to carry out the execution of a large number of protocols, the size of the fine for which will be about 500-1000 rubles, when it is possible to stop two or three much more accommodating violators, the money received from them during one shift will be enough not only those on patrol, but also their superiors.
Conducting video recording. This state of affairs is the reason that the widespread use of cameras for recording traffic violations has taught most drivers that a violation must be filmed. But if the recording is available, but the police officer is in no hurry to show it, regardless of the reason, then the violation is not considered committed. In their understanding, this means that the decision made to constitute an administrative offense can be successfully appealed in court.
But this statement is not true. According to the administrative procedure, when starting to draw up a report on the driver, he is given the right to familiarize himself with all the materials contained in the case, to participate in giving explanations and testimony, which is granted to him on the basis of Article 25.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences.
In addition, according to the same Regulations specified in the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs No. 664, the traffic police officer who recorded the violation is obliged to clearly explain to the driver on the basis of which paragraph of the traffic rules or article of the Code of Administrative Offenses the penalty was imposed on him. But not a single law or any other legislative act states that a traffic police officer must present video evidence to the driver of the commission of this violation. In addition, according to the information contained in Article 26.1 of the Administrative Code, during administrative proceedings, any facts may be presented that serve as evidence of the driver’s guilt. These may include the testimony of a traffic police officer. Yes, during judicial proceedings, the driver has every right to familiarize himself with the case materials and other things, but when drawing up a protocol, this procedure is not mandatory.
Bottom line. In fact, the traffic police officer does not make similar demands to present evidence that the driver violated traffic rules or caused an accident. For example, 10 years ago nothing like this could have been discussed. And since that time, no significant changes have been made to either the traffic rules or the Code of Administrative Offenses, except for an increase in the amount of fines and the appearance of administrative penalties in the form of deprivation of rights and arrest.
That is, showing a video recording of a violation to the driver is not the responsibility of the traffic police officer, but only an opportunity to avoid a dispute over whether the driver is guilty or not.
Why do they sell cars with low mileage and is it worth buying them?
Quite often you come across advertisements for the sale of a car from the secondary market with fairly low mileage: sometimes it starts from 5 thousand km, but this is practically a new car! What is this - a trick of unscrupulous car owners or a happy accident for the buyer?
Of course, one of the most common reasons for selling such a car is sudden financial problems of the owner: many do not take out a car loan or simply did not calculate their financial capabilities when purchasing a vehicle. Also, a buyer, especially an inexperienced one, could simply choose the wrong car: take an SUV and realize that it consumes a lot of gasoline, and a basic city crossover would be a more suitable iron “friend.” Such motives of sellers are realistic and understandable, but very often it is under them that problematic cars are displayed in order to avoid the truth. How to recognize a lie?

The most common pitfall for cars with minimal mileage and a recent year of manufacture put up for sale is that the car has been restored after an accident. Resellers do this especially often: the car’s body is repaired, repainted and an ad is placed. But fortunately for buyers, there are now a lot of services where you can look at the entire history of a car using the VIN code of a vehicle; there will be information such as: checking in the database of stolen cars, service history, operating history, mileage, exact characteristics of the car, etc. You can also read our article, where it is written in detail about which cars are easier to sell than to repair, and also why these details should be the first thing you pay attention to when buying a personal vehicle.

The next reason for selling a new car is the imposition of a ban on registration activities with the car. This measure is prescribed by the court, social protection, customs and other authorities. This is a category of unscrupulous sellers who do not pay alimony, taxes, have debts to the state, and so on. You can check the car you are selling for a registration ban on the website of the State Traffic Inspectorate, and find out the reasons for imposing the ban on the website of the Federal Bailiff Service.
Another insidious reason for selling a practically new car with low mileage is a vehicle that was taken by a car dealer as a test drive. Such cars did not undergo the required proper engine running-in; on the contrary, customers often tested the engine at maximum power, and this has a very bad effect on the “health” of the car in the future.

Of course, the decision will be yours - to take or not to take such a car. On the one hand, it’s practically new and costs much less, on the other hand, you can pay extra, but get a completely new car from a car dealership. In any case: you need to be very careful and scrupulous when choosing a car in order to avoid unpleasant problems and drive your car with pleasure.
6 reasons why cars with low mileage are sold and why you shouldn’t buy them?
On car sales ad sites you often find cars with low mileage, literally 20 - 30 thousand km. In this regard, two important questions arise: why the owner decided to part with the car, which had driven nothing, and whether it was worth buying such a car at all. Let's figure it out.
There are completely objective reasons not related to the condition of the car, for example, the owner urgently needed money. They will also sell a car with low mileage if you bought it on credit and cannot pay the bills. Or you bought a large SUV, and the owner realized that he simply didn’t need such a power-hungry car—you’d go broke on gasoline. Yes, these are completely logical and plausible reasons, but they may hide real problems with the car. You won't check whether they are real or not.
But it is often problematic cars that are sold with low mileage - for example, those that have been involved in an accident and have been restored. Resellers constantly trade in such cars, selling junk cars restored after an accident under the guise of a fresh “swallow”.
You can also find fresh cars with low mileage, which have some problems with the operation of individual units or systems - the owner was tired of fixing them, the car spent more time being repaired than driving. And the motorist simply gets rid of it, passing on the headache to the next owner.
You can also find cars on ad sites that are sold by car dealerships after test drives. They generally have low mileage because they served as demonstration samples. Compared to a new car, they are an order of magnitude cheaper, but you can end up with a slightly shabby car that has not been treated with much ceremony; it has not undergone the necessary running-in.
Decide for yourself whether you should buy a car with low mileage or not. Of course, you can find a completely decent option, fresh and unworn. But you need to choose very carefully.
Why can’t you buy one-year-old used cars? Every driver should know!
I recently surfed a car sales website, I’m sure you know it, and was surprised by the large number of used cars that are sold 1 year after purchase. I decided to talk to an expert about whether it’s worth buying one-year-old cars, because they are practically new, with low mileage, and the price is attractive. But everything is not as rosy as it seemed to me at the very beginning.
Before moving on to the essence of the article, I’ll note why used one-year-old cars are so attractive. And why, many drivers buy them, despite all their doubts and fears.
I'll start with the main thing. The price of a one-year-old used car is 15-20% lower than the cost of a new one. Mileage is minimal. You don't have to wait in line; you can pick up the car you want right away. Plus, such cars have additional equipment, an alarm system, a winter package, protection, and so on. Also, you can often find advertisements where the seller is ready to give the buyer a set of winter tires.
All these factors make offers for the sale of one-year-old cars very attractive. But, as an expert I know told me, you need to weigh not only the pros, but also the cons. More about the disadvantages later.
Now here's the whole truth about why they sell one-year-old cars. The most common answer from the seller, why he is selling the car, soon after purchase, he stopped liking it. Statistics say that only 5-7% of all sellers of one-year-old cars sell precisely because they no longer like it.
Perhaps the owner expected one thing, but in reality the car behaves differently. There is no drive or quality that he expected. Only rich people can afford to sell a car just because they no longer like it. Therefore, if you want to buy a premium car, a used one-year-old car can be a good buy. “I didn’t like it”, does not apply to the budget segment. There people simply cannot financially afford to change their car due to a “whim”. If you choose BMW, AUDI, Mercedes, Porsche, etc., then you can safely buy a one-year-old car, you will save up to 20% of the price on the purchase. The premium segment is exactly that 5-7% “I didn’t like it.” In the budget class, unfortunately, the reasons for the sale are sadder.
If you see an advertisement for the sale of Renault, KIA, Hyundai, etc. cars, a year after purchase, then with a 75% probability, the car has been in an accident. And most likely, it was restored after a serious accident. Unfortunately it is so. It is worth inspecting such cars using special devices, otherwise there is a high probability that you will buy a “transformer”. Such budget one-year-old cars need to be looked at “under a microscope.”
Another option for divorce when selling a one-year-old car is the participation of the car in a car scam. When the car often got into minor accidents, and its bumpers, fenders, and so on were constantly changed. Such cars have the cheapest Chinese parts, plus a lot of hidden damage that will make itself known after you buy the car.
High wear and mileage, the car was used as a taxi. If you see an offer for the sale of a one-year-old car, but it has a high mileage, then be sure that the car was used in a taxi. The normal mileage for a used one-year-old car is within the range of 10-15,000 km. Higher means that the mileage is skewed, and most likely the car was used in a taxi. This means a lot of wear and tear on all parts.
There is also a fraudulent scheme for the sale of credit cars. It occurs less frequently, but it does occur. All documents are forged and the credit car is sold. After which, the new owner’s car may be seized, and you will simply lose money.
You see. One-year-old cars are not such a good deal on the used car market. If you cannot buy yourself a new car, then it is best to look at cars that are at least 3 years old. This is a normal period when a person has already traveled enough and has the opportunity to change his car.
