The technical condition of 794 Chinese cars aged from 2 to 4 years, which were inspected at a car service center from October 2017 to October 2018, was compared with the condition of similar cars produced in other countries to understand how the “Chinese” differ from the world average. The CarPrice company analyzed cars according to 600 parameters and assigned a certain number of points for “body”, “interior”, “technical condition” and “related factors”, while the maximum number of points is limited to 20 (perfect condition).

It turned out that the condition of the components of Chinese cars is comparable to the condition of other cars. In the premium segment, it is even noticeably higher, since when producing expensive cars, manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom place special emphasis on quality. So, if in the price group from 500 thousand to 700 thousand rubles, Chinese brands in terms of “technical condition” fall slightly short of the world average (4.59 versus 4.70), then starting with cars costing from 700 thousand rubles and to cars in the price group of 1.5 million rubles, they exceed the world average in quality.

The body is considered one of the weak points of the “Chinese”. However, the inspected cars showed good condition of the iron. Moreover, it turned out to be better than the market average. This is especially noticeable in the segment from 700 thousand to 1.5 million rubles. Thus, experts assigned Chinese cars in this price range 4.14 points, while the world average is 3.63 points (out of 5 possible).

The interior of budget "Chinese" cars is worse than that of comparable cars produced in other countries. Thus, in the segment from 500 thousand to 700 thousand rubles, the “Chinese” received 4.21 points, and the world average is 4.42 points. But in the segment of cars over 1.5 million, Chinese cars are significantly superior to competitors from other countries - 5 points versus 4.45.

Based on the sum of the parameters, it turns out that, contrary to stereotypes, Chinese used cars are at the level of others. Things are a little worse for cars costing from 500 thousand to 700 thousand, but in general the “Chinese” received 12.37 points, with the world average of 11.7 (out of 20 possible).

The researchers also tried to compare Chinese brands with each other based on the sum of average condition indicators (out of 15 possible). Here Haval is in first place - 13.5 points, FAW is in second - 13.4 points, DongFeng is in third - 12, 21 points, Chery is in fourth place - 11, 62 points and Lifan is in fifth place - 11.4 points. At the same time, in the “interior condition” category, Haval occupies only fourth place, behind brands such as FAW, Brilliance and DongFeng. In terms of technical condition, only one brand was ahead of the leader - FAW.

Experts also compared various models of the Chinese automobile industry with each other. Since these are cars from different price segments, comparisons are conditional. However, the cars included in the “red” list are clearly of weak quality. Among the high-quality and well-made models (“green” list), analysts highlighted FAW Oley, DongFeng H30 Cross, Lifan Smily I Restyling (330), Lifan X50, Lifan X50, Lifan X60 I Restyling, which were awarded more than 11.86 points (out of 15 possible), and among the outsiders they named Geely MK Cross, Great Wall Hover H5, Geely Emgrand EC7, Great Wall Hover H3 I Restyling, Lifan Solano I Restyling (630) - 10.56 points and below.

The worst preserved body of the Geely MK Cross is 2.39 points, and the best is the FAW Oley - 4.31 points. In terms of interior condition, FAW Oley is also in the lead - 4.56, and at the end of the list is Great Wall Hover H5 - 3.80 points (out of 5 possible).

In general, analysts concluded that Chinese cars have made a real breakthrough and are now no longer inferior to cars from other countries in terms of workmanship and technical condition. At the same time, in business class, the quality of the “Chinese” is even better than the market average, since in order to please sophisticated buyers, Chinese manufacturers use materials better than those accepted by existing market standards.

As for the popularity rating of Chinese used cars in Russia, the most popular brand was Chery, with DongFeng (DFM) in last place.
