How to prepare documents for gas equipment in a car

Fine for gas equipment (GBO) on a car in 2020

Good afternoon, dear reader.

In this article we will talk about regulatory and legal documents regulating the installation and registration of gas equipment.

HBO can technically be installed on almost any car. At the same time, due to the low cost of fuel (about 2 times less than the cost of gasoline), the equipment pays for itself quite quickly. This is especially noticeable during everyday use of the vehicle in commercial activities.

Let's look at how to register gas equipment with the traffic police, as well as possible fines for using gas equipment without registration.

How to legalize HBO in 2019 and 2020?

75. Verification of compliance with the requirements for vehicles in operation in the event of changes to their design is carried out in the form of a preliminary technical examination of the design for the possibility of making changes and subsequent verification of the safety of the design and technical inspection of the vehicle with changes made to the design.

During the preliminary technical examination, it is ensured that after changes are made to the design of the vehicle, its compliance with the requirements of these technical regulations that were in force at the time the vehicle was put into circulation will remain.

During the safety check of the vehicle design, it is ensured that after changes are made to the design of the vehicle, its safety meets the requirements of these technical regulations.

First of all, please note that this paragraph deals with two types of checks:

  • Preliminary (before installing HBO);
  • Safety check (after installing LPG).

A preliminary check must be carried out before gas equipment is installed on the vehicle. Those. First of all, the driver must “obtain permission” to install LPG. Technical examination is carried out in a specialized organization, and permission must be obtained from the traffic police MREO.

After this, you can contact an organization that installs gas equipment. We will not consider the technical side of the issue. It is important that after installation the organization gives you copies of certificates for the installed gas equipment.

Finally, a design safety inspection (in the same organization where the preliminary inspection was completed). As a result, you will receive a certificate of compliance of the vehicle with the changes made to its design with safety requirements. You need to contact the traffic police with this document to make changes to the vehicle registration documents.

At first glance, the procedure for registering gas equipment with the traffic police seems quite confusing. However, in practice everything is not so difficult:

The Garant-Gaz company is preparing a list of necessary documents for registering gas equipment with the traffic police.

First stage

In accordance with the new rules for registering gas equipment, even before installation you need to obtain a preliminary technical examination of the vehicle (vehicle) to determine the possibility of installing gas equipment on your car.

List of required documents to obtain the “Conclusion of a preliminary technical examination of the vehicle design for the possibility of making changes”:

  • Vehicle owner's passport
  • Vehicle Passport (PVC)
  • STS

The cost of the entire set of documents required for registration of gas equipment with the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate:

  • 5000 rub. if you are planning to install or have already installed gas equipment in Garant-Gaz;
  • 6000 rub. in case you installed gas equipment in another company.

The conclusion is received within 1-2 days.

IMPORTANT! If the LPG has been installed on a vehicle and its registration is required, then it is necessary to dismantle the visible components to begin the registration procedure.

Second phase

Write an Application for installation of HBO. To do this, contact the territorial traffic police department (regardless of the place where the car is registered), where there is a technical supervision department. The traffic police officer puts a mark in the Application-Declaration with attached photographs of the car, which has not yet been installed with LPG.

This will take no more than 1 hour.

Third stage

Installation of gas equipment on a car. After installation, we will issue you with a complete package of documents for the installed equipment.

Fourth stage

After the technical inspection, you receive a new diagnostic card.

Cost of diagnostic card: 1200 rub.

After this, send us a scanned version of the diagnostic card by email and on its basis we will prepare a “Technical Expertise Report” for you.

Fifth stage

To obtain a “Certificate of compliance of the design of a vehicle with changes made to its design with safety requirements,” you need to come to the same traffic police department that you visited for the first time, provide an identification card, as well as all received documents and a car with installed gas equipment. As a result of inspecting the vehicle, the traffic police registers your car and issues a “Certificate of Compliance with the Design of the Vehicle” with changes made to its design, and also makes a corresponding entry in the PTS and STS of the car.

Examples of documents received after registering an LPG with the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (GAI):

Documents for registration of gas equipment in 2019

Almost every year, new rules and legislation appear that every driver should be aware of. One of the recent innovations was the design of the gas cylinder system. If previously the registration of such re-equipment took place without changing the technical passport data, then in order to obtain documents for gas equipment for a car in 2019, you will have to undergo examinations and receive a solid list of certificates.

Requirements for registration of HBO

In 2015, the Technical Regulations adopted by the member countries of the Customs Union came into force. The regulation concerns safety issues in the use of road transport. Paragraph 8 of Appendix 9 clearly describes all the rules for registering cars that have undergone technical conversion.

For more information about whether you need to register HBO with the traffic police, read the special article.

Procedure

Every car owner who decides to install gas equipment on a personal vehicle should familiarize themselves with the list of documents required to legalize the conversion, and also find out where to obtain documents for gas equipment for the car.

It is extremely important to obtain such information before purchasing the gas installation itself, in order to assess your financial capabilities and availability of free time in advance. Installation and documentation of the gas system involves several stages:

  1. The first certificate that should be obtained is an expert opinion confirming that the vehicle model technically allows the installation of LPG. Such a conclusion can only be obtained at a certified auto center specializing in vehicle conversion.
  2. Is it necessary to submit documents to the traffic police for gas equipment in a car? – yes, this is just the next stage. With the conclusion from the service station, the car owner applies to the traffic police for permission to install; Having received it, he returns to the station to actually install the equipment.
  3. Upon completion, the service station specialists issue another certificate confirming that the gas system was installed in accordance with all current requirements and is safe for use.

List of documents

It must be said that due to the new rules, according to which the installation of gas equipment requires entering information about this into the technical passport of the car, the list of papers required for registration has expanded significantly.

The list of documents for gas equipment of a car for registration of gas equipment with the State Traffic Inspectorate in 2019 should be as follows:

  • diagnostic inspection card;
  • conclusion of a preliminary examination confirming the possibility of changing the design of the vehicle;
  • vehicle owner's passport;
  • vehicle registration certificate and registration certificate;
  • document on the right to own a car (purchase and sale agreement);
  • application requesting a certificate;
  • certificates of forms No. 2a and No. 2b, issued after installation of gas equipment;
  • photocopies of certificates confirming the compliance of the gas cylinder system used during installation;
  • copies of certificates issued to the installer company by an accredited certification center for the provision of vehicle conversion services;
  • receipt of payment of state duty.

Having figured out what documents are needed to register gas equipment with the MREO and convert a car to gas, you should remember that when contacting the inspectorate, you must provide the vehicle itself for inspection. We recommend that you read the article “Registration of LPG for cars in 2019.”

Sequence of document preparation

Registration of gas cylinder equipment with the State Traffic Inspectorate is a rather complex and lengthy procedure. We have looked at what documents are needed to install gas equipment on a car in 2019; now we will look at each stage.

How to obtain a preliminary technical examination report

Technical examination of a vehicle for the installation of LPG is a defining moment in the process of converting its fuel system. It is this that will allow you to begin carrying out work legally. To obtain a conclusion, you need to find a certified service station that has state permission to connect and service gas equipment.

Thus, before receiving permission to install gas equipment on a car in 2019, each driver must prepare his car for a preliminary examination. Service station specialists will check the design of the machine to determine whether it can safely operate on gas. After this, the owner will be given a conclusion with which he should contact the traffic police.

Application to the traffic police for changes to the design of the car

To obtain permission to install gas equipment on a car in 2019, you must submit an application to the traffic police to change the design of the vehicle. To do this, you will have to fill out a form indicating information about the vehicle, as well as information about its owner. At this stage you need to have with you:

The result of consideration of the application by the traffic police is a conclusion that allows changing the design of the vehicle, or a refusal to do so.

Installation of HBO

Having received permission from the State Traffic Inspectorate to re-equip the car, you can begin installing gas equipment. In order for everything to be documented without problems, you should contact only certified centers, which, upon completion of the work, will issue all the certificates and certificates necessary for further registration. We recommend that you read the article on the topic: “Installing gas equipment on a car.”

Obtaining a certificate

The most important step is how to make documents for gas equipment for a car. After completion of the work, the company installing the gas cylinder system must issue the car owner:

  • certificate for car gas equipment;
  • act of acceptance of the vehicle for installation of a new fuel system;
  • a certificate confirming the vehicle’s compliance with the type of installed gas equipment in accordance with safety requirements (form 2a);
  • certificate of final examination of the vehicle;
  • declaration-statement about the quality and volume of work performed by the station to change the design of the car;
  • a copy of a document confirming that the installer organization has the right to provide installation and maintenance services for gas equipment;
  • passport for a gas cylinder for a car.

Registration of a certificate of compliance with safety requirements

Documents for gas inspection for the traffic police in 2019 must necessarily include a document confirming the passage of technical inspection (diagnostic card). Without it, you cannot apply to the traffic police with a request to make changes to the registration certificate in connection with the re-equipment of the car.

A mark for gas equipment on a car will be placed only after the inspector checks the submitted certificates (list above), inspects the car and puts marks on the diagnostic card.

In addition, you will have to undergo a license plate check and also pay a state fee of 1,000 rubles. Then the documents are submitted for registration actions.

After all these procedures, the driver will receive a certificate that the vehicle design complies with state requirements, as well as a new vehicle registration certificate.

A note about HBO is placed in the PTS.

Let's summarize: the process of how to draw up documents for gas equipment in a car according to the new rules is quite complicated; costs will be required for the purchase and installation of equipment; however, the time and money spent in most cases pays off due to savings in fuel costs.

Legalization of HBO (documents and procedure)

In accordance with the new legislation, owners of cars on which gas equipment is installed must legalize the installation of gas on their iron horse. Today, in the framework of this article, we will look at how the legalization of HBO for a car is going on in 2018 and how the legalization itself differs from the initial registration.

Legalization procedure

So, the process of registering HBO with the traffic police and legalizing HBO are two different things. These two situations are different from a legal point of view and require different actions from car owners.

Let us immediately note that the package of documents and the order of their submission to the traffic police department will be the same in both cases. But at the same time, legalization of an already installed device is still much easier.

Few people know, but the installation of gas equipment on a car always had to be registered. However, previously the authorities turned a blind eye to the lack of documents. Now, all owners of unlicensed HBO will have to pay a fine of 500 rubles (this is provided that the violation is committed for the first time). So how to legalize HBO that is already installed on a car?

The authorities decided to meet the drivers halfway and allowed even those who had installed gas in their cars to receive the necessary papers several years ago. At the same time, there is no difference in completing the registration procedure for them and those who apply to the traffic police on this issue for the first time. Such measures are associated with the general popularization of alternative fuels in the country.

Since 2009, Russia adopted an international regulation called “Technical Regulations for the Safety of Wheeled Vehicles,” or simply TR TS 018 2011, and after that it became possible to legalize an already installed LPG without its dismantling. In fact, the regulation came into force in 2015, but even then many car owners did not take this document seriously and did not register legally installed gas equipment. In this regard, car owners were given another deferment for another year and a half, so that everyone could go through the registration procedure for installed additional equipment, including gas equipment.

The term “legalization of gas and gas in the traffic police” appeared after a conference of members of the SPGO association in the fall of 2016. It was then that it was decided that any gas equipment that was installed on the car before 2016 did not need to be dismantled. It is enough just to make a package of necessary documents for it and undergo the so-called legalization at the traffic police.

Documents required for legalization of HBO

So, obtaining a technical passport and a registration certificate for a car with an inscribed LPG is preceded by the submission of the following documents for legalization:

  1. A receipt indicating payment of the appropriate fee for changes to be made to the vehicle title.
  2. Two statements from the owner: a declaration on the volume and quality of the work done, which reflects changes made to the design of the vehicle, and a questionnaire application in which the owner requests changes to the design of the vehicle.
  3. Conclusion on the results of the preliminary examination of the vehicle and the absence of safety violations in the installation.
  4. Certificate of conformity for installed components of the gas treatment system.
  5. Certificate of conformity for the workshop that installed the equipment.
  6. Vehicle diagnostic card obtained after installation of new equipment.
  7. EAEU form (2a, 2b) from the organization that installed the gas equipment and the cylinder itself.
  8. A protocol of the results of the examination that approved the safety of the vehicle design after changes were made to it.

Simplified procedure for legalizing gas equipment

A big advantage of the legalization process is that there is no need to dismantle the installed gas equipment system from the car . However, there are some points that the motorist needs to know about:

  1. The application for legalization is written according to the sample document that is filled out by owners who install gas equipment in their car for the first time. It must be submitted only after passing the initial technical inspection.
  2. It is important that HBO was installed in the car before 2015 inclusive. It should be understood that the inspector will not check this point in any way; the only exceptions may be cars that were produced after 2015.
  3. If the car is manufactured in 2016 or later, then it may be necessary to dismantle the installed equipment. This is due to the fact that in this case, the installation of HBO was carried out after the adoption of the new law and does not fall under the concept of “legalization of HBO.”

Features of passing technical inspection

Technical inspection is the most difficult stage in the entire registration and legalization process. While going through it, it is worth remembering several important nuances:

  • To obtain a diagnostic card, you must present documents for the installed gas equipment system. However, at the same time, the technical examination report on HBO must already contain the number of this diagnostic card. The car owner should be aware of this and clarify the situation to the employee conducting the inspection.
  • The diagnostic card must contain information about the vehicle’s curb weight, taking into account the installed gas equipment , and in the “Special notes” column you should enter “gas equipment installed.”

In order not to go through the procedure of dismantling the equipment, it is necessary to correctly calculate the mass of the installed gas equipment from the total weight of the car. This can be done using the following formula (suitable for cars with one propane-butane cylinder filled to 80% in the kit):

(cylinder volume - 15%) + 5 = X kg

The resulting X indicator will indicate the mass of the gas equipment, taking into account an error of approximately 2 kilograms. If your car has more than one cylinder installed, simply multiply the X indicator by their number.

In conclusion, we would like to remind you that all owners of converted cars must undergo the procedure for legalizing LPG. Otherwise, they will face a fine of 500 rubles, and if the same violation is detected again, the car may be impounded or even completely deregistered. In this regard, it is better not to delay the paperwork process, especially since for such a procedure as the legalization of HBO, the price today is about 4,500 rubles. It is much easier to get away with this small amount than to face troubles from the official authorities. The article says: “It is important that LPG be installed in the car before 2015,” while earlier it was written: “It was then that it was decided that any gas equipment that was installed on the car before 2016 does not need to be dismantled " So which is correct: until 2015 or 2016? We need to clarify.

This means the year of manufacture of the car, 2015, 2014, etc. The inspector will not prove in any way that a car manufactured in 2015, let’s say yesterday, did not have LPG installed, which means the vehicle falls under the legalization standard. There is no way a car manufactured in 2016 could have had an LPG system installed in 2015.

if the car is 2011 purchased on the secondary market in January 2015 and in January 2015 the gas system was installed (there is a technical passport and gas maintenance passes), then there is no need to dismantle it and you can go to the traffic police to write an application for legalization?

Yes, that's right, there is no need to dismantle the LPG. The installation must be legalized and “entered” into the vehicle’s technical passport

What to do if there are no documents for HBO?

Hello! What documents are we talking about? If you mean the documents that were provided by the installation company, then you can request them again from the service station that installed the LPG on your car.

Hello!
I bought a 2004 Gazelle and it costs HBO. There are no documents for either the equipment or installation work. Question ; my actions, take it off and throw it away?

Hello! You can try to get documents for gas equipment from a service that installs equipment. Check out these services and ask around. If the installation is good, why throw it away? Try to negotiate to receive documents from the installers; you may need to replace some components and overpay a little for the documents, but in the end it will be cheaper than doing it from scratch.

If there is no information about gas equipment in the documents, then before registering the car with the traffic police, the gas equipment should be dismantled. After this, you have the choice to either go through the procedures described above and install the HBO again, or refuse to use it.

Hello. I installed the LPG on the car and received a certificate of conformity from the Customs Union. within what time should I make changes to the PTS and STS?

In the section of the article: “Documents necessary for the legalization of HBO” there are points that raised questions in me, to put it mildly.
We are talking about points: 1, 2, ... In general, about all points of this section of the article.
Point 1
Here everything is as always - first, rip off some money, and a lot of it, and then it will work out, it won’t work out, depending on how the cards fall.
And these are not empty words. The fact is that an LPG installed by someone at some point may not have, and most likely will not have, Certificates of Conformity for individual components and for the entire set as a whole, in relation to a specific model (brand) of a car or its modification. And this will make it impossible to fulfill paragraph 4 of this section of the article. Point 2
Quote: “Two statements from the owner: a declaration on the volume and quality of the work done...”
We are talking here about an already installed gas equipment.
So what?, the owner must be an HBO specialist, which is not prescribed in the Consumer Protection Law?! Otherwise, how can he determine the volume of work done and, especially, its quality? And why should he determine the quality of these works, if further in the same sentence it reads: “... which (we are talking about the Declaration) reflects the changes made to the design of the vehicle? There is not a word or a word about quality here. In the same sentence, at the end, where: “an application-questionnaire in which the owner asks to make changes to the design of the car” - who is the owner asking to make changes?! Here you should write that the owner is asking for permission to make changes to the design of the vehicle, and it is on the basis of this permission that he will be able to install LPG on the car. Which, however, has been installed on the car for a long time. Albeit without any certificates and permits, which was provided for back in the 90s. And the regulatory framework in this regard already existed - the relevant UNECE Rules were adopted by agreement already in 1968, and we had to follow them, it’s just that the traffic police blundered or missed what was written in their own legal regulations

documents based on the specified UNECE Rules.
So motorists who find themselves in the current situation are almost the victims of those who were not responsible enough and carefully studied their own equipment.
Well, I guess we’ll stop there, and it turned out to be a lot of slang.
Although a lot can be said about the other points, how correctly they are formulated and, therefore, feasible. And yet I will say this in conclusion.
Nowadays there are many organizations supposedly authorized to certify gas equipment.
And it’s a sin to complain about this - where there is a lot of money, but control over this is either illiterate or completely absent, and even organized by the commercially interested US (this is my personal assessment), as a subcommittee of Rosstandart, and, in my opinion, not very knowledgeable in topic, complaining about it is a waste of time. It’s just worth studying the theory and procedure for mandatory certification of gas equipment yourself. Here in front of me is one of these certificates. It completely lacks references to installation or installation drawings or even just sketches, but duly approved. But without them you can’t even drive a nail into the wall... There are also no references to the schematic and installation diagrams of the electrical equipment included in the set of the installed gas equipment and connected to the standard systems of the car, which must necessarily be present in the Certificates of Conformity for the gas equipment. It is not for nothing that mandatory certification of gas equipment is carried out in relation to specific brands of cars. And in such cases, how do you mount something on the car and connect it to the standard systems on the car?! I once had to read on some forum that the gas reducer, due to the tight layout in the engine compartment, was installed... under the bottom of the car...

So without all this, i.e.
in the absence of truly certified equipment, accidents, explosions and fires on gas-cylinder vehicles are very likely, and the car owners themselves will always be to blame, despite the fact that the real culprits of such accidents should almost always be recognized as gas equipment installers and the technical supervision of the traffic police, which must exercise competent supervision over automobiles. gas workers.

Hello. I bought a car with snow-covered gas equipment. I have documents for gas. It was installed in 2018. How can I legitimize and register the car in my name?

What is the fine for unregistered gas equipment in 2019?

⚡️ What is the fine for installing HBO without documents? Fine for HBO without registration. List of required documents. Current fines in this article from the specialists of the website “Traffic Police Fines”.

The traffic police fine for unregistered gas equipment (gas equipment without documents) in 2019 is:

Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, Part 1 / Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

What is the fine for unregistered gas equipment?

The fine for gas equipment in 2019 is 500 rubles . A penalty of five hundred rubles by traffic police officers is also imposed in the case of a completely illegal (unregistered) installation of gas equipment, in the absence of some documents related to gas equipment, and in the event of a discrepancy between individual numbers on the equipment and in the documentation.

Fine for HBO without documents in the legislation of the Russian Federation

A traffic police officer, in the case of an unregistered gas vehicle, will be guided by paragraph 1 of Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses - “Driving a vehicle in the presence of malfunctions or conditions under which, in accordance with the Basic Provisions for the Admission of a Vehicle, the operation of the vehicle is prohibited.”

In the official list of faults prohibiting the operation of a vehicle, paragraph 7.18 is responsible for the unauthorized, unregistered or partially registered installation of gas equipment - “Changes have been made to the design of the vehicle without the permission of the State Road Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation or other bodies determined by the Government of the Russian Federation "

In some cases, Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation “Disobedience to a lawful order of a police officer” is applied.

Thus, the fine for unregistered gas equipment (LPG), as well as the fine for partial registration or failure to pass a “gas” inspection, is 500 rubles. However, there is a nuance(!)

Arrest for 15 days and a fine for gas equipment without registration

In some cases, traffic police officers, realizing the low fine for gas equipment (500 rubles) for the unregistered installation of gas equipment on a car, resort to tricks.

Gas cylinder equipment is a complex technical device that requires constant monitoring. Compared to gasoline, gas is more explosive. The use of gas in a car is unsafe without appropriate examinations, certifications and in-depth, periodic technical inspection.

The sequence of administrative measures is as follows:

I. A traffic police officer stops a car with illegal gas equipment for the first time and issues a fine of 500 rubles. under Article 12.5 Part 1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (Driving a vehicle in the presence of malfunctions).

II .IMPORTANT(!) Together with the protocol or resolution on a fine for gas, the driver is issued a requirement to prohibit the operation of the vehicle if the design changes are not legalized.

The next meeting with traffic police officers in a car with illegal gas equipment, in accordance with Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation “Disobedience to a lawful order of a police officer,” can lead to the arrest of the driver for 15 days and the car being sent to an impound lot.

Note: Cases of application of Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation to drivers who allowed the illegal or semi-legal installation of gas equipment are rare. In 90% of cases, the motorist gets off with fear and a fine of 500 rubles, however, this option must also be remembered.

If a traffic police officer discovered unregistered gas equipment on you and issued requirements to bring the car to standard condition, it is best to immediately remove the gas equipment.

Instead of a fine for HBO, a ban on refueling cars without documents at gas stations

In addition to a fine of 500 rubles. for unregistered gas equipment, a motorist driving a car with gas equipment installed without permission risks being denied permission to refuel the car.

Regulatory authorities are putting pressure on gas stations and ordering gas stations to check the documents of the owners of visiting cars before selling gas fuel. This condition is not beneficial for sellers. However, in order to avoid problems with the law, the ban on refueling cars with unregistered gas equipment is enforced in approximately 20-30% of cases.

In addition, it is near large gas filling stations that traffic police officers most often conduct raids on motorists who have problems registering gas equipment.

Registration of gas equipment with the traffic police

The procedure for registering gas equipment with the traffic police has always been quite complicated. However, in 2016, after the entry into force of the customs union regulations, it became extremely complicated.

It is unlikely that you will be able to go through all the stages on your own. This will take months, and even in this case, interaction with commercial organizations cannot be avoided. The law stipulates that in any case a certified organization must sign for the conversion of a car to use LPG.

To briefly describe the list of necessary actions, it includes: inspecting the car before and after installing gas equipment, purchasing gas equipment with all certificates, interacting with the traffic police and approving the operations performed, making changes to the title and vehicle registration certificate, periodically undergoing special inspections (every 6 months).

LPG on a car in Russia is often installed according to gray schemes without the involvement of certified organizations with a staff of qualified employees. The reason for such violations is, on the one hand, the softness of fines (only 500 rubles), on the other hand, the complexity and high cost of completely legal gasification of a car (from 40,000 rubles).

Unqualified (gray) installation of gas equipment is extremely dangerous(!). Gas mixtures used as a replacement for gasoline are in containers under pressure and are explosive and volatile. Saving time and money by converting a car to gas can result in poisoning, fires and explosions.

Conversion procedure

We present the standard procedure for Russia in 2019 for registering gas equipment in a car (taking into account changes in the rules in connection with the documents of the Customs Union).

The easiest way to start the process is to find an adequate organization engaged in the sale and installation of gas equipment. The company must have good reviews, work experience, and all the necessary certificates for both the provision of services and the equipment sold.

The market for converting cars to GAZ in the regions of the Russian Federation has been formed. Everywhere there are 2-3 large companies that have been working in this area for a long time. It’s better to go there, despite the somewhat inflated prices compared to business newcomers.

It is best to interact in matters of installing gas equipment with one organization that takes full both technical and legal responsibility for converting your car to gas. Such offers are called “turnkey gas equipment” in market slang.

The equipment used to convert a car to gas varies greatly by generation, country of origin and configuration. It is important to choose exactly the product that will be convenient for you.

Particular attention should be paid to the location of the nipple, fuel remaining sensor and gas cylinder. Sometimes, to save space, the cylinder is placed in the spare wheel niche. An incorrectly chosen location for the cylinder will cause a lot of trouble during everyday use of the car.

  1. You need to find an organization that will provide a certificate stating that your car is technically suitable for conversion to gas. The certificate is issued on a form.
  2. It is necessary to write an application to the traffic police with a request for conversion to GAZ (an additional inspection by the traffic police is possible).
  3. The traffic police puts a mark on the permission of the conversion on the application.
  4. With the application confirmed by the traffic police, you need to come to the company that carried out the initial inspection of your car, decide on the generation, country, company and equipment of the gas equipment and carry out the installation of equipment in the car. Make sure that you are given a passport for the cylinder, a certificate for equipment, a service agreement, certificates F-2a and F-2b.
  5. After installing the gas equipment, a final technical examination is carried out in the same company, and three conclusions are obtained:
    • Gas equipment is installed in accordance with the rules and regulations,
    • The vehicle is safe to use,
    • Changes have been made to the vehicle.
  6. All documents must be submitted to a standard technical inspection at a regular technical inspection station.
  7. With all the documents, you again need to arrive at the traffic police, pay the state fee, hand over the documents and receive a registration certificate and a vehicle passport with notes on the conversion of the car to gas.

Large companies engaged in converting cars to gas take on the burden of paperwork, prepare all the certificates themselves and minimize the client’s communication with traffic police officers. As of 2019, legal conversion of a passenger car to gas costs an average of 40,000 rubles.

List of necessary documents for conversion to gas in 2019

  • Certificate or diagnostic inspection card;
  • Conclusion of a preliminary examination confirming the possibility of changing the design of the vehicle (commercial organization);
  • Documents confirming the identity of the owner;
  • Vehicle registration certificate and registration certificate;
  • Vehicle ownership document;
  • Application for a certificate;
  • Certificates of forms No. 2a and No. 2b, issued after installation of gas equipment (commercial organization);
  • Photocopies of certificates confirming the compliance of the gas cylinder system used during installation (from a commercial organization);
  • Copies of certificates issued to the installer company by an accredited certification center for the provision of services for the conversion of vehicles (commercial organization);

Converting a car to use LPG looks tempting because of the fifty percent savings on each refueling. However, before deciding to convert your car to gas, it is worth evaluating the disadvantages:

  • Risk of poisoning, fire and explosion (including during an accident);
  • Passing a technical inspection every 6 months;
  • Reducing the volume of a car trunk;
  • The presence of a characteristic smell of gas in the car;
  • Problems with starting the engine in winter (the need to refuel both gasoline and gas at the same time);
  • Poor coverage of the network of gas filling stations throughout the Russian Federation;
  • High cost of installing modern gas equipment;
  • Increased wear (drying out) of components and assemblies of an engine that was not originally designed for gas;
  • Problems with selling a car (people are reluctant to buy cars with gas equipment on the secondary market).
