How to determine driving experience for compulsory motor liability insurance

How is driving experience considered for MTPL insurance?

Every modern driver knows that even one person included in the insurance can increase the cost of the policy by almost 9 times.

At the same time, not everyone can be sure that they do not spend an extra 3-5 thousand every year on car insurance due to fraud by the insurance company.

In order not to pay extra, it is worth knowing how driving experience is calculated for compulsory motor liability insurance.

Such situations may arise due to insufficient driver experience. If you know how to correctly calculate driving experience for a compulsory motor liability insurance policy, you can save a significant amount on compulsory insurance.

If you purchase an insurance document incorrectly, this will automatically lead to the loss of the main beneficial discounts that have been accumulated since the registration of your driver’s license.

In this article, you can learn how driving experience is calculated, how it affects the cost of a car insurance policy, and how to do the right thing to avoid wasting money.

The impact of driving experience on insurance

OSAGO is compulsory insurance, and its price can bewilder any, even the most experienced driver..

What may be even more surprising is the fact that for one model of vehicle, insurance will cost differently.

The main reason for this difference is that several parameters and certain factors are used simultaneously in the cost calculation process. One of the most important is driving experience.

Compulsory insurance uses two special coefficients directly related to driving experience . One of them takes into account the age of the driver.

It is only important for those who have just started driving a car. It is not important to other drivers, since it does not have any impact on the cost of the next policy.

As for the second indicator, it has a slightly greater impact on the price of the policy; therefore, it is necessary for all drivers without exception.

This takes into account not just the time during which a person had the right to drive a car, but also the presence or absence of emergency situations in which the driver was identified as the culprit. We are talking about the well-known bonus malus coefficient or KBM .

The connection between length of service and the MTPL agreement

The coefficient of driver experience and age has four main values:

  1. Its maximum level is 1.8 and is used for drivers under 23 years of age with no more than 3 years of driving experience.
  2. Less than 1.7 is typical for those who received their license relatively recently, that is, three years and a little less, but who are already 23 years old.
  3. The next level will be 1.6 for those who have already reached the age of 22 or less. Their total driving time must exceed three years.
  4. An indicator equal to one is typical for all others who have more than 3 years of driving experience and who have reached the full age of 23.

There are no further changes to this parameter . Based on the presented indicators, we can conclude that the cost of insurance for a driver with no driving experience will be approximately 80% higher than for an experienced driver.

If a person has sufficient driving experience, he can count on the fact that the cost of the policy will not be increased or decreased.

If the insurance policy indicates the young age of the driver, whose driving experience is less than four years, the price of the insurance policy will be the same as for insurance that does not have restrictions on the persons included in it. In this case, driver experience will not be counted towards the Malus bonus.

Experience for calculating KBM

An accident-free driving record is a concept that does not reflect the current state of affairs regarding the cost of an insurance policy.

It is used as one of the main factors that serve to calculate the discount given for driving a car without accidents.

If for about 10 years the driver has not been investigated by the traffic police as the culprit of the accident, if he has a minimum KBM indicator, in this case you can count on receiving a significant discount when calculating the cost of the policy.

It is worth noting that the described coefficient may be equal for people who have driven for different amounts of time without an accident.

For example, if one driver was involved in two accidents five years ago, and another had one in two years, the discount for driving without accidents will be completely equal.

That is, the discount will be equal for a driver who has driven for 5 years and 2 years without an accident.

Reward for accident-free driving

In the process of applying the malus bonus coefficient under consideration, only accident-free experience will be taken into account. At the same time, there should not be precisely such accidents where the driver is the culprit.

Each driver will be assigned a special class, which is automatically assigned a coefficient value.

The longer the driving experience without accidents is, the higher the class will be assigned, the lower the coefficient will be, and accordingly, the lower the cost of the compulsory motor liability insurance contract will be.

As soon as a person becomes the culprit of an accident, the class is automatically reduced, the coefficient automatically increases, and at the same time the price of insurance.

If, after research, the class of the person included in the insurance is quite low, it will be much more profitable to conclude an insurance contract without restrictions. In this case, the driving experience without an accident will not be counted against anyone except the owner of the car .

Rules for calculating length of service for compulsory motor liability insurance

The length of service for a PIC can be determined by the date of first receipt of a driver's license . There are no problems with this issue; insurers determine it easily and simply.

If it is recorded that three years have passed since the submission of the first driver’s document, the increasing factor will not be applied. However, there are issues that require closer attention.

Determination of length of service for a captain

The driver's experience is clearly indicated on any driver's license . It is indicated on the back of the document in column 14.

When replacing a certificate for various reasons, the experience will be fully preserved and will always be indicated in the 14th column, regardless of the category of the certificate.

In some cases, such information is not indicated on the first issued certificate. In this case, the beginning of the internship will be determined by the date of official opening of the assigned category.

Interruption of service due to deprivation

When is driving experience considered? According to modern legislation, no stops or breaks are provided for during the accrual of length of service.

In this case, the basis for deprivation of rights and the reasons for interruptions in driving do not matter. In any case, driving experience will be counted from the date of first issue of a driver’s license.

Experience and change of category

Each category has its own accounting of driving time. This period is also indicated on the license.

In other words, in the process of obtaining a new driver’s category, the experience in the previously open category will not go away. The date of receipt of the new category is taken into account only when taking into account the new category.

For example, a person with a category B license has 10 years of driving experience from 2006 to 2016. If in 2014 he passed category D, then when applying for bus insurance, 2 years of experience will be accepted.

In the first case, the VAC will be one, in the second it will be equal to 1.7.

How to find out the accident-free experience of an insurance company?

Quite often, drivers are faced with a situation where the bonus malus coefficient used by the insurance company does not correspond to reality. In this case, there is automatically a desire to monitor the changes being made, otherwise it will be impossible to identify violations.

In some policies, the driver's class is indicated on the policy form in a special section on special notes or near the specified persons who were included in the insurance policy.

What should those who do not have KBM insurance do? Everything is quite simple here. All that is required is an Internet connection and access to a special automated system, AIS OSAGO, to which every person is allowed.

This is a single information database, common for all insurers without exception. This database contains all information on concluded automobile insurance contracts starting from 2011.

Here is a more accurate algorithm of actions: in order to find out the personal coefficient of the Malus bonus, you need to know how to find out your driving experience in the RSA database:

  1. You need to go to the RSA in the appropriate section.
  2. Enter the personal data of the driver whose class you want to check. This is your full name, date of birth and ID number.
  3. The date when the KBM indicator was designated is indicated.
  4. A special request is sent with a preliminary writing of the security code from the image.

After the manipulations have been carried out, the system automatically issues the class of the person driving the car for the requested time. At the same time, data is issued that relates to the previous compulsory liability insurance contract.

KBM during breaks in driving

In case of possible breaks in insurance that exceed one year, the driver's class is automatically canceled.

It becomes equal to three, and the coefficient equals one, that is, the accumulated discount is completely lost.

At the same time, the accident-free year will not be counted if the entry in the document was not made at the time of concluding the contract, or if it was terminated before the specified time.

From here it becomes clear whether the driving experience is valid if it is not included in the insurance . Summarizing all that has been said, we can highlight certain important points in determining the length of service in the process of applying for insurance.

Here are the most basic of them:

  • three full years is the limit that divides the driver’s experience in car insurance into the time before and after;
  • driving experience for each category is calculated separately;
  • the period of driving experience is calculated strictly from the date of issue of the first driver’s license, breaks do not matter here;
  • in the MSC, not only the fact of an accident is taken into account, but also the degree and fact of guilt of the driver who took part in the accident;
  • the discount for safe movement along the highway is canceled immediately in the process of “non-registration” of a person as a driver in the MTPL insurance policy for one year.

These rules directly apply to a simple insurance policy. If the insurance belongs to the unlimited category, accident-free driving is recorded according to its individual characteristics.

Important Tips

Experts recommend calculating the cost of the policy in advance for all acceptable options . This must be done strictly with an eye to the future.

In some cases, an insurance contract without restriction of persons allowed to drive will be more preferable due to greater benefits.

It is advisable to always check your class by visiting AIS RSA. To avoid certain surprises regarding insurance, you should calculate the cost of the document using special online calculators, know how the basic coefficient is calculated and other operations are carried out.

This must be done before each visit to the insurance company to apply for new car insurance. Do not forget in what situations the KBM can be completely reset to prevent them.

Summing up

This article made it possible to find out what impact driving experience has on modern legal auto insurance.

The cost of an insurance contract can vary significantly, since the price is influenced by a large number of different factors.

This must be taken into account when choosing a policy category and adding other drivers there.

How does driving experience affect the cost of compulsory motor liability insurance?

» data-ulike-status=»1″ class=»wp_ulike_btn wp_ulike_put_image wp_likethis_4491″>

Even a novice driver knows that a driver’s characteristics can affect the cost of a civil liability contract. How driving experience affects compulsory motor liability insurance, why this happens and what the policyholder can do to ensure that the contract price is optimal, we will consider in this article. This information is especially relevant for those car owners who register other persons, since they are often the reason for the multiple increase in value.

The concept of driving experience

The period of experience for a driver depends on the moment of issuance of a driver’s license after training at a driving school, as well as confirmation of knowledge and practical skills when passing exams at the traffic police. At first glance, everything is extremely simple and transparent, but insurance companies can take fraudulent actions by deliberately changing this indicator to increase the client’s insurance payment. The goal is profit. Therefore, it is important to know exactly how to determine length of service, so that inadvertence does not lead to the loss of profitable discounts.

How does it affect the cost of insurance?

In relation to determining the price of compulsory motor insurance, 2 types of coefficients are applicable, which are related to the driver’s experience. The first of them concerns the beginning of the period when a person received the right to drive a vehicle, and the second concerns all drivers. The latter option draws attention to the presence of accidents caused by a specific policyholder. In this case, we are talking about the BMC - the bonus-malus coefficient.

It has 4 meanings:

  1. For people aged 23 years with up to 3 years of experience
  2. Experience up to 3 years and age up to 23 years
  3. 22 years or less and more than three years of experience
  4. For holders of three years of experience, subject to 23 years of age

From the above data it follows that recent driving school graduates will be approximately 80% larger than others. If you gain experience and do not have a positive driving reputation, you can receive discounts and pay less. If the driver is young and has not reached four years of driving experience, then the price will be similar to the situation of obtaining insurance without restrictions on the number of persons allowed to drive the vehicle. Please note that bonus malus will not be taken into account.

Experience for calculating KBM

Knowing your driving record, called accident-free, you cannot reliably say how much the policy will cost. This is only one of the factors used in mathematical calculations to influence the reduction in the price of compulsory motor liability insurance. The driver can evaluate the significant impact of CBM after 10 years of driving without any facts of an accident due to his own fault.

This coefficient may be the same for different people who have been driving the vehicle for an equal number of years. Also, the discount may be the same for drivers who have been driving for 5 or 2.5 years. This can happen if the first one had, for example, 2 incidents five years ago, and the second one 2 times in the last year.

Discounts for accident-free driving

The most important thing for KBM is the absence of facts of an accident due to the fault of the policyholder. A certain coefficient is assigned to any driver. The more years a person spends behind the wheel without negative incidents, the better: the class will be higher, and the coefficient will be lower. Accordingly, the price will have a better impact on financial interests.

At the same time, in the event of an accident, the class is automatically reduced, the coefficient value increases, and the price will also be higher. A useful tip in a situation of low BMI would be to draw up an insurance contract without restrictions (open MTPL). In this case, the length of service will be considered only for the owner of the vehicle.

How is length of service calculated for compulsory motor liability insurance?

To understand how much driving experience you have, you can look at the date you received your driver’s license. That is, it is quite easy for the policyholder and the insurer to determine this if they have the necessary document (this is the reverse side, column 14). If the document is replaced, you should not be afraid that the length of service will be reflected incorrectly. A similar column will contain the required date. In the case when the length of service was not specified when issuing the document, then the date of opening of the assigned category is taken into account.

What length of service is required to calculate FAC?

When applying for insurance, the specialist will take into account the type of vehicle the policyholder will drive. That is, if the driver drives a truck, the insurer will look at when a category has been opened for him, which is admission to the right to drive this vehicle.

Is the length of service interrupted during deprivation of rights?

Many drivers have questions about what happens when a person is deprived of the right to drive a car for a certain period. In accordance with the requirements of legislative acts, such suspensions are not reflected in the calculation of length of service. In this case, the reason for the restriction is not important.

Experience and change of category

For each category, its own accounting of vehicle driving time is taken into account. This period is also included in the rights. Simply put, when opening a new category, existing experience will not be lost. The date for the new category is counted only when the new category is taken into account. Let's consider the following example at this point: a person has been driving for 10 years, but 2 years ago he received category D. If he plans to travel by bus, then the insurance company will calculate the length of service as 2 years, not 10, and the BMR will be equal to one.

How to get information about the length of service for compulsory motor liability insurance

Recently, many drivers have been paying attention to the discrepancy between the KBM coefficient indicated in the insurance (they can’t always write it) and what was previously and which they assume they have. This actually happens in practice. The reason for this miscalculation is errors, but there are also cases of fraudulent actions on the part of company representatives who are pursuing a certain benefit.

To clarify the situation, be able to check yourself or begin to prove your rights, you should first go to the RSA website. Any Internet user can do this. A single database, to which all insurers legally selling MTPL without exception are connected, contains all information regarding contracts concluded since 2011.

The algorithm of actions necessary to obtain comprehensive information on this issue is extremely simple:

  • go to the section of the site that is dedicated to this issue
  • enter the full name and other driver data in the provided columns
  • indicate the date when the MSC was determined
  • will send a request

After analyzing the received data, the result is automatically displayed on the screen. Also with KBM the user will see information about his previous contracts.

KBM during breaks in driving

In some cases, a situation may arise when the driver does not insure his liability. If this period exceeds 1 year, then the existing class is automatically downgraded to zero, that is, everything is reset to zero. In this case, the discount is completely lost, and the BMR will be equal to three and the coefficient to one.

It should be borne in mind that the year will be counted as accident-free if the corresponding entry is made at the time of execution of the contract or if it has not been terminated before that time. Based on the above statement, it becomes clear in which cases the driver’s driving experience may not be valid according to the fact of being recorded in the insurance.

From what has been said, we will determine the most important things in the topic of driving experience and compulsory motor liability insurance:

  • In insurance there is a driving experience limit of three years. Insurers determine the time before and after this period;
  • For each category, a different length of service is determined. That is, it is important what kind of vehicle the driver drives;
  • The length of service is determined from the date of receipt of the first certificate or assignment of the first category. In this case, breaks do not count;
  • when determining the MSC, the degree of guilt of the participant in the accident is considered;
  • if a person is not included in the MTPL agreement, his CBM will be canceled after a year.

These points are relevant for standard MTPL agreements. If this is an open policy, there are no restrictions on the number of drivers, then the insurance company can determine its own conditions for determining driving experience.

Possible problems

Since length of service affects the cost of insurance, all problems boil down to overpayment. If an error is made, the policyholder may pay more or less than the required amount if calculated correctly. Please note that during an insured event, company representatives check whether the policy is true. If an error is determined, there is no guarantee that the policy will not be invalidated. This once again confirms the need to check the document and calculation before paying for it.

Insurance experts themselves recommend that drivers monitor their vehicle's vehicle themselves. Before drawing up a civil liability contract, you need to calculate and check your coefficient in advance. In some cases, it is better to use the option of purchasing a policy without restrictions. It is also useful to use online calculators to determine the cost that may result in a particular case. They are available on all insurance company websites. Do not forget that the coefficient may be reset to zero if there is no insurance in the selected company.

Conclusion

In this article, we looked at how a driver’s driving experience is determined, what can be taken into account in each specific case, and also how you can reduce the cost of the policy by building your positive reputation. To track your future payment, you need to monitor the KBM yourself, use an online calculator before purchasing and check your data on the RSA website. Such measures are simple, and following our advice will guarantee transparent payments and compliance of payments with the true state of affairs.

We calculate the age and length of service coefficient for the MTPL policy

If you purchase an MTPL policy, it will be useful for you to find out whether the cost of the policy is affected by driving experience and how it is determined, whether the insurance company can refuse to provide services to an inexperienced driver, and whether there is a possibility of losing driving experience.

What affects the price?

Despite the fact that compulsory motor liability insurance is a mandatory type of insurance , and the procedure for calculating the cost of such a policy is approved at the legislative level, the price of insurance is not always the same. And this is not without logic, because everyone’s car is different, so they have to pay differently.

However, even insuring identical cars can cost differently. One of the reasons for this is the different driving experience of the owner.

So, what driving experience is taken into account when determining the price of a “motor citizen” and what length of driving experience is needed to pay less. But how does this factor affect the price of insurance? As established by part one of paragraph 1 of Article 9 of the Federal Law of April 25, 2002 No. 40-FZ “On compulsory insurance of civil liability of vehicle owners”, the level of remuneration to the insurer for providing car insurance services is determined by calculation, based on the base rate and coefficients .

The types of coefficients are reflected in paragraph 2 of the above article. And there are two coefficients that can increase or decrease the price of the policy:

Thus, driving experience directly affects the price of the policy through the use of coefficients by insurers. We will consider these OSAGO coefficients in more detail below.

What changes if you're new to driving?

Neither the length of service of the car owner, nor his age, nor any other factors (except for legal reasons) can affect whether he can obtain a compulsory motor liability insurance policy.

Since the presence of compulsory motor liability insurance is mandatory when driving a car, the insurance company is obliged to issue it, without taking into account the driving experience. Therefore, any length of service is suitable for registration of a “motor citizen”, and its absence is also allowed.

However, the insurer does not have the right to refuse insurance to an inexperienced driver. The measures taken by the insurer to protect itself to some extent are to increase the cost of compulsory motor liability insurance through the use of coefficients KVS and KBM. If a refusal occurs for this reason, then it is illegal.

How is the total driving period determined?

Driving experience is determined according to data from the traffic police . It is calculated from the date of receipt of the first driver's license. That is, if the license was issued on March 1, 2015, then on March 1, 2018, the length of service will be equal to three years.

If you don't remember when you were issued this document, you can find out by looking at the driver's license form. This parameter is indicated on the reverse side in column 14.

It is indicated in the “Special Notes” column. It is especially worth noting that each category has its own length of service . If you already have a license and have some driving experience, when you receive a new category, the experience for it is counted starting from the day it was valid, but not from the day you initially received the license.

Let's look at an example. The driver received a license on March 1, 2015, and only category “B” is open. And on March 1, 2015, a new category “C” was received. As of March 1, 2018, this person will have the following length of service:

  1. category “B” – 3 years;
  2. in category “C” – 2 years.

What year is considered the beginning?

As stated above, experience accumulates starting from the day of initial receipt of a driver's license , or from the day the new category is opened. Based on this principle, the year of commencement of the internship is determined. For example:

  • if the certificate was issued in 2008, then in 2018 the experience is 10 years;
  • if an additional category was received in 2010, then in 2018 the experience in this category is 8 years.

How are amendments calculated?

This is the coefficient by which the base rate is multiplied to calculate the amount of remuneration to the insurer for the provided MTPL policy. The coefficients are calculated based on the age and length of service of the car owner, therefore, depending on the circumstances, they have different effects on the final tariff:

  1. in the case of a short driving experience and young age, this coefficient usually increases the price of insurance, and often to a significant extent;
  2. if the driver is experienced, the coefficient may not affect the cost of compulsory motor liability insurance.

In practice, there are 4 sizes of KVS:

  • 1,8 – applies to persons under 23 years of age with less than 3 years of experience;
  • 1,7 – for persons over 23 years of age with a driving period of no more than 3 years;
  • 1,6 – for persons 22 years of age and younger, but with more than 3 years of experience;
  • 1,0 – for other categories, that is, over 23 years of age and with a term of more than 3 years.

Thus, the PIC can increase the base rate by 60%, 70% and 80%, but only if the driver is not older than 23 years old and his experience does not exceed 3 years. In this case, the KVS takes the value 1.0, which means that the cost of compulsory motor liability insurance will not change in any way under the influence of this coefficient.

It is used to calculate a discount for accident-free driving or increases the price of the policy in the event of a significant number of accidents in which the car owner has been involved.

Is it possible to somehow restore my accident-free driving record? The KBM operates on the following principle: the more time you drive without an accident, the higher the MTPL class and the lower the coefficient (for example, with accident-free driving for 15 years, the KBM value can be taken at 0.5, which means a 50% discount).

Read more:  Search for a fine by resolution number

At the same time, when you first contact an insurance organization, the BMR, as a rule, is equal to 1.0 and every year it either decreases if you were not the culprit of an accident during the year, or increases if accidents did happen.

It is not difficult to notice that if the BMR is less than one, then the price of the policy decreases, if it is more, it increases . The maximum value of the BMR is 2.45, which means an almost threefold increase in the cost of insurance.

To determine the CBM, there is a special table, which is the same for all insurers. At the same time, the accident-free driving experience is recalculated every year: the previous year’s experience, calculated for the previous MTPL policy, is taken as a basis, and it is taken into account whether there were accidents during the past year.

The accident-free driving experience cannot be calculated earlier than 2003, since it was in this year that compulsory motor liability insurance was introduced.

Here you can see the tables of driver classes and KBM coefficients, and here read about the increased MTPL coefficient.

What is the impact of the loss of documents?

Driving experience is determined according to the data reflected in the driver's license . Even if the license is lost and new ones are issued, or documents are replaced, the date the category was opened is still indicated on the certificate. In this regard, driving experience cannot be lost. The PIC cannot change either.

However, the accident-free record may be lost if the driver suddenly turns out to be the culprit of the accident. In this case, the BMF increases. And this affects the amount required to pay the insurance company for the “car title”.

When does the insurance company have the right to raise the price of insurance?

If suddenly, when applying for a new policy, the insurer increased its cost and explains this by saying that your driving record has been lost or reset to zero, this is illegal and incorrect. Experience can only increase over time, and it is calculated from the day the corresponding category is opened.

The fee can increase only if the accident-free record is lost due to an accident. In this case, it is possible to restore it only over time, if you are not the culprit of the accident.

Thus, when contacting an insurer, you need to be careful and not allow your driving experience to be incorrectly indicated in the insurance contract, because its value has a direct impact on the amount that you will have to transfer to the insurer.

How is driving experience considered for compulsory motor liability insurance?

As a driver, it is very important to me how much OSAGO insurance costs, since it is mandatory for every driver. If you compare tariffs, the cost of insurance for the same car will be different. And this is due to many factors. When calculating insurance, several main factors are taken into account, which determine the final cost of the policy. And today I will tell you the importance of driving experience.

Main Factors

To understand the impact of experience, it is important to know how the full cost of compulsory motor liability insurance is calculated. For this, the following indicators are taken into account:

  • type of motor transport , which can be not only a passenger car, but also a motorcycle or truck, as well as some other types of transport;
  • number of drivers , in this case it is taken into account whether the policy will be limited in the number of drivers allowed to drive or the insurance will be unlimited;
  • information about the age of drivers; young teenagers, according to statistics, are more likely to get into accidents;
  • the length of experience of all drivers; accident-free driving largely depends on the experience of driving a vehicle;
  • motor power, statistics show that more powerful motors are more likely to get into accidents;
  • duration of insurance, the longest period is 1 year, in this case the cost of one month of insurance will be the most profitable, but if the policy is valid for only 3 months, then the total amount will be less, but the cost of one month will be higher;
  • region of operation, for example, the risks of getting into an accident in St. Petersburg or Moscow are much higher than in the Chuvash Republic;
  • information about previous insurance, if the driver has a certain number of years that he was previously insured, then the general database contains information about his loss-making or break-even for the insurance company.

Thus, all these indicators have an individual impact on the cost of the policy. And now we will consider in detail how the driver’s experience is calculated.

The concept of experience

In a general sense, it refers to the specific period of time that a person uses a driver’s license. But if previously it was enough to just get a license and keep it on a shelf for the experience to accrue, now this is not enough. The unified database of insurers must contain information about this driver. That is, he must be entered as a policyholder of the compulsory motor liability insurance policy, or as one of the drivers of the current policy. In this case, he will be accrued experience. And the KBM coefficient will depend on it.

When applying for a policy, other length of service may also be taken into account, which refers to the driver’s age itself. If he is under 23 years old, then an increasing factor is applied when calculating the cost of the policy. For drivers over this age, this value is not of interest, since their coefficient will not increase the cost of insurance.

Therefore, actual experience as a driver has the greatest value. If the driver received his license before compulsory insurance was introduced, all the years that he held his license before the year when he was not insured under the compulsory OSAGO policy are counted towards his length of service.

Experience and KBM coefficients

The first of them, which depends solely on age, has the abbreviated name KVS. It can have 4 meanings:

  • the maximum coefficient is 1.8 for teenagers under 23 years of age or with a driver's license less than 3 years old;
  • 1, 7 applies to such drivers whose experience is less than 3 years, but they are already over 23 years old;
  • 1,6 received by drivers who have not yet reached 23 years of age, but have accumulated more than 3 years of experience;
  • 1 applies to all drivers who have been driving for more than 3 years and are over 23 years of age.

It turns out that this coefficient is important only for young people, as well as for inexperienced drivers. After a certain time, all drivers forget about it.

The calculation of the CBM is much more complex and its size can change at any time. It is almost impossible to accurately calculate this coefficient on your own, because many coefficients and formulas are used here, depending on the driver’s experience. This takes into account its accident-free nature, or the number of such cases over the past 10 years.

In accordance with the main indicators that are taken into account when calculating it, it divides all drivers into several categories. To do this, the unified database of insurers and RSA must contain information about the driver. In this case, he can receive both an increasing insurance coefficient and a decreasing one.

Calculation of KBM

To determine what the actual cost of your policy should be, you must calculate not only the amount of insurance itself, but also check your BMR. If over the past 10 years you have never been in an accident due to your fault, and accordingly, insurance companies have not received claims for compensation for losses, you will be assigned the highest class 13. It provides a 50% discount on insurance. If you have a long-standing accident 9 years ago, then you will receive class 12 with a 45% discount. If there is no information about your experience, the highest coefficient of 2.45 will be applied to you.

Thus, compulsory motor liability insurance also depends on the number of years you drive without an accident. If you hit several times through your own fault, the coefficient amount will increase to the maximum level.

All information and policyholders were entered into the RSA electronic database in 2014. But not all bona fide insurance companies provided this information, so many citizens received such coefficients as if there was no information about them in the database at all and they had never had insurance. The result of this for car owners was exorbitant amounts of insurance policies. You can learn more about this from the video presented.

Checking the KBM

To avoid overpaying for your insurance, you need to check which CBM is assigned to you. The check must be carried out on the official website of the RSA, although such information can be easily provided to you by the insurance company. To check you will need to enter the following data:

  • Driver's full name;
  • the date for which you are interested in the coefficient value.

Next, you will need to enter the site’s security code, and the system will give you the information you are interested in. Some sites offer to get you this information for money. But remember that RSA provides it absolutely free, so there is no point in overpaying.

What to do if the code does not match

This is a very common situation when a driver notices that his vehicle does not meet the accident-free record. In this case, you must file a claim with your insurance company.

Based on this, they must submit a request to RSA to verify the specified coefficient. This verification usually takes 1-3 business days. The insurance company will then be provided with the correct BMR value. If an error was made in the database, the site will correct the incorrect coefficient.

You can then demand compensation from the insurer for incorrect insurance calculations. To do this, you must also make a written statement so that the overpaid funds will be recalculated and returned to you. They can be returned within the last 3 years. Therefore, be sure to take advantage of this opportunity if it turns out that you had an error in determining the KBM.
