Coating a car with ceramics, procedure and timing

We accept clean cars for work, so before entering the studio we will wash your car at the car wash.

Thorough cleaning of paintwork

We remove bitumen, resins, road markings, metal chips and other difficult-to-remove contaminants that remain after regular washing.

Degreasing paintwork with an alcohol solution

We remove all chemical compounds used when cleaning the body.

Covering with masking tape

We cover with masking tape the body elements that are not subject to polishing and are in contact with the polishing surface (sills, parts of bumpers, mudguards, parts of mirrors, all nameplates).

Touching up chips and scratches

We remove pronounced chips and, possibly, some types of scratches (as agreed with the Customer). If you have a rare color, take some tint with you.

We polish according to the condition of the paintwork. From practice, for new cars with a mileage of up to 1000 km, this is usually anti-hologram, for cars with a mileage of up to 3000 - soft, with a mileage of more than 3000 - restoration.

Evolution in car body protection

Advantages and features of ceramic coatings

Every car enthusiast wants his car to look like it came from a showroom, even after a long time.
Without proper protection, the car's paintwork will gradually fade, small scratches will appear, and the varnish will wear off. As a result, the exterior will no longer please the owner, and the value of the car upon subsequent sale decreases. Several years ago, the first protective coatings for car bodies appeared, which were made on a wax basis. They did not provide a long-lasting and reliable protective effect: they quickly washed out in sinks and under the influence of precipitation, faded in the sun, and were difficult to apply. Over the past few years, the situation on the automotive chemicals market has changed: coatings have been developed that are tens of times more protective than wax-based compounds. These are ceramic compositions, otherwise known as “liquid glass”.

Choosing a ceramic coating

Specialists from the AMD plus auto studio studied ceramic compositions in detail in order to choose the best option for the job with the best characteristics. We carried out a detailed analysis of ceramic compositions: we studied the chemical composition of the coatings, their application algorithm to the car body, and the price-quality ratio.

As a result of research, we chose the products of a large, world-famous manufacturer, Optimum Polymer Technologies (OPT), USA, a leader in the production and sale of innovative protective compounds for cars. Protective coatings for cars from OPT are made on the basis of silicon carbide, patented in the USA and have no equivalent analogues. In the USA, the coating has been produced since 2005, in Russia it has become available since 2014. It is successfully used in car dealerships of the world's largest manufacturers: Mercedes Benz, BMW, Honda, Volvo, Nissan, Toyota, Suzuki, Mazda.

Nanoceramics: truth or myth?

Many people have heard the word “nanoceramics”. Often, service centers attract the attention of customers with promises to apply nanoceramics to the car body for little money. The prefix “nano” is often applied to modern products and is controversial.

Some coatings actually contain titanium dioxide nanopowder, which increases the adhesion of the composition and prevents the coating from fading and turning yellow.
But it does not add strength to the coatings. A real ceramic coating is the result of serious work by chemist scientists.
The ceramic coating Opti-Coat Pro from OPT, which is used in the work of AMD plus masters, uses polyurethane and isocyanate for unsurpassed strength and flexibility of the protective film. Opti-Coat Pro does not contain titanium dioxide nanopowder; the coating contains a more advanced pigment. Opti-Coat Pro is not nanoceramics! This is a real ceramic coating. It is not sold in online stores and is only available to professional detailing centers. Specialists from the AMD plus studio apply ceramic coatings in compliance with original technology. AMD plus masters received theoretical knowledge and practical skills in professional coating application abroad at the OPT Training Center.

Why do you need a ceramic coating?

The “native” paintwork of a car is subject to the negative influence of the external environment, as it does not have sufficient strength and hardness. Chemicals, stones, sand, dust, sun rays - all this causes damage to the car body.

The damage caused can be removed with professional abrasive polishing, but the original coating does not last forever.
After four abrasive polishings, the factory coating reaches its minimum thickness; further work will lead to dire consequences. Opti-Coat Pro Plus ceramics are needed for reliable and long-lasting protection of the car body. Today, the chemical formula of SiC (silicon carbide) ceramic coating has no analogues in the world. The hardness of the coating is above 9H on the Mohs scale, and coatings similar in purpose and properties have a hardness below 7H.

After applying Opti-Coat Pro Plus, a protective film 2 microns thick is formed on the paintwork - this figure is more than 100 times higher than other coatings.
Opti-Coat Pro Plus protective film does not wear off in car washes and is not washed off by precipitation. It can only be removed with professional abrasive polishing. Today the market is filled with a huge number of cheap coatings. 90% of them are coatings from China, which are sold under the names “ceramics” and “nanoceramics”. In reality, at best, they have the composition of SiO2 and have nothing in common with ceramics. Beware of fakes - do not buy pseudo-protective compounds yourself.

Advantages of Opti-Coat Pro ceramic composition

As already mentioned, Opti-Coat Pro protects a car’s paintwork from chemicals, bird waste products, mechanical damage, and sun fading. The coating has a long-lasting hydrophobic effect, self-cleaning effect, candy effects, and provides the coating with unsurpassed smoothness, shine and color saturation.

Opti-Coat is a multi-layer coating that consists of a base first layer (Opti-Coat Pro) and a top layer for even more unrivaled protection (Opti-Coat Pro Plus).
It has a melting point of 2730 °C, which is more than 1100 °C higher than the melting point of other coatings. The shine and gloss after application of the coating increases within a month and remains at the maximum level for 7 years. Other, more economical coatings quickly lose their shine and require additional gloss restoration.

With proper car care, a complete absence of cobwebs from car washes is guaranteed.
Basic care consists of a two-phase car wash. The first phase is a contactless car body wash. The second phase is washing the car with a sponge and a cleaning solution. With this approach, your car will be in perfect condition. Automotive studio "AMD plus" provides a 5-year proprietary guarantee for the application of ceramic coating. Opti-Coat Pro and Opti-Coat Pro Plus coatings do not require updating, only proper maintenance.

How is ceramic coating applied?

Applying a ceramic coating is a labor-intensive procedure that is performed by experienced specialists using professional equipment and materials. The process includes several steps.

  • Thorough washing and cleaning of the body using special professional products.
  • Abrasive two-step polishing of body and headlights.
  • Degreasing the surface with special means that do not damage the car’s paintwork.
  • If necessary, repair chips.
  • Applying ceramics in 1-5 layers with intermediate drying.
  • The polymerization process takes 12 hours.

How to care for a body coated with a ceramic composition?

The car must not be washed for at least 14 days after applying the ceramics, as the coating has not fully set and formed. Manufacturers recommend avoiding car washing for 3-4 weeks. This recommendation is explained by the fact that the coating gains 90% of its protective properties almost immediately, in the first 12 hours. The remaining 10% is within 30 days and washing may damage it.

After 30 days after applying the ceramic coating, you can take care of your car as usual. For best results, use a two-stage wash: a combination of contactless washing and gentle washing of the car body with a soft sponge and a special solution.

Let's sum it up

  • Cheap coatings last for a maximum of 2-3 months, while Opti-Coat Pro reliably protects the body of your car for at least 5-7 years. This is achieved through a special composition, which includes isocyanate and polyurethane. Thanks to these components, a durable layer 2 microns thick is formed on the surface.
  • A protective ceramic coating protects the car's surface from environmental influences, difficult weather conditions, and minor scratches. It has a self-cleaning effect and hydrophobic properties.
  • Creates depth of color, bright shine, and preserves the impeccable appearance of the car for a long time. Thanks to the special composition of the coating, the paintwork does not wear out even after prolonged exposure to sunlight.
  • The ceramic coating does not wear out in sinks and is resistant to chemicals. The protective layer of Opti-Coat Pro can only be removed by restorative polishing.
  • The coating has a leveling effect: it covers small depressions and bulges, protects the surface of the paintwork from contamination, and preserves its beauty.
  • Opti-Coat Pro is suitable without exception for all body colors, rims, plastic elements and other car parts, except glass.

Most car enthusiasts take care of their car's paintwork in the summer.
This is not true. The car body requires the same care in summer and winter. In winter, a car's paintwork is exposed to aggressive chemicals and suffers from dirt, snow and ice fragments. In summer, negative factors include dust, sand, small stones, frequent car washes, ultraviolet radiation, and acid rain. All year round, the time-tested, modern protective innovative ceramic coating Opti-Coat Pro will reliably protect the body of your car. This is not liquid or quartz glass. This is a ceramic coating with an exclusive chemical formula of SiC (Silicon Carbide), unavailable to any other coating on the market.

Give your car an impeccable appearance and unsurpassed protection from damage for a long time - use the service of professional application of high-quality Opti-Coat Pro ceramic coating at the AMD plus auto repair shop!

Ceramic Pro Light body coating

● Ceramic Pro Light

Hydrophobic composition - the protective properties are based on the hydrophobic effect: after application, the surface becomes perfectly smooth, liquids, dirt, sand, etc. do not linger on it.
Accordingly, the car remains clean longer, it has to be washed less often (and it is easier to wash it) and, as As a result, the paintwork is less scratched compared to an unprotected car.
Plus - the composition renews the color of the car, gives it depth and additional shine (by leveling the surface). In terms of its characteristics, CeramicPro Light can be compared to Liquid glass, but, according to our observations, it “works” on the body longer and gives a more pronounced hydrophobic effect. The service life of CeramicPro Light is about 9-12 months.

CeramicPro Light is a standalone product and can also be applied as a finishing layer when treated with CeramicPro 9H

from 9.000 7.200 rub.

● Ceramic Pro 9H
● Ceramic Pro Light

The composition of Ceramic Pro 9H is a unique and complex product that is distributed only to partner companies specializing in the field of detailing.

When professionally applied (taking into account the characteristics of the varnish of each specific car and with strict adherence to all manufacturer’s recommendations), the composition provides excellent protection of the paintwork from various aggressive environmental influences (road reagent, bitumen, road markings, paint dust, resin and tree sap, bird droppings etc.) and even from minor mechanical influences (sandblasting, washing with dirty sponges and rags, minor scratches and “cobwebs”). Protection is provided due to the fact that the composition is not simply applied over the paintwork (like the vast majority of protective polishes), but enters into a molecular bond with the top layer of varnish and makes it harder!

Ceramic body protection

Modern technologies in the production and use of ceramics have made it possible to create a coating that has become an alternative way to protect a car, competing with traditional synthetic materials and wax. Ceramic protection of the car body is a fairly new, well, already rapidly gaining popularity method of protection. The PREMMAKAR company, which is an official dealer of KRYTEX - a leader in the field of innovative protective coatings, offers its services for applying ceramic protection to your car.

Ceramic car body protection - features and benefits

Ceramic coatings for cars are based on the principle of “liquid glass,” which has been successfully used for decades in various fields. Modifications for body protection are based on mineral silicon dioxide (colorless crystals with great strength, hardness, refractoriness, and do not interact with water and acids). Auxiliary components are the most modern and diverse, right down to nanoelements. This material has impressive characteristics:

  • Immunity to aggressive and chemical influences (ultraviolet radiation, oils, gasoline, acids, road reagents, etc.). The car does not need regular washing, it is not afraid of sap from trees, bird droppings, insects, paint from a spray can (all this is removed instantly, because it does not react with nanoceramics).
  • Resistance to mechanical damage (scratches, chips, etc.).
  • Dirt-repellent and water-repellent properties.

Resistance to temperatures (on the one hand - anti-icing effect, on the other - withstands temperatures of more than 700°C). You won’t have to remove the ice shell from a car coated with ceramics after winter rain or wet snow. The car is not afraid of sparks, lighters, firecrackers, cigarette butts thrown on the hood, or the hot summer sun.

Today, the best nanoceramic coatings are considered to be Ceramic Pro, a product line from Nanoshine Ltd (Taiwan). The coating can be applied not only to painted surfaces, but also to chrome parts, external plastic and metal elements, automotive optics, etc. It is better to order the Ceramic Pro 9h application service from professionals.

A car coated with ceramics looks very attractive - there is a mirror-like shine effect, and the paintwork under the ceramic film acquires a special brightness.

Ceramic body coating, if the technology is followed, after application “fusions” with paintwork elements, penetrates into all pores and provides excellent anti-corrosion protection. The durability is also impressive. If wax provides protection for 6-8 weeks, synthetic compounds - up to six months, then Ceramic PRO 9h body polishing solves the problem of car protection for a period of up to 2 years.

It is necessary to mention some features. Coating a car with Ceramic PRO 9h nanoceramics requires careful preparation of the surface, eliminating existing scratches, chips and other paint defects, otherwise they will be very noticeable under the ceramic film. The surface must be perfect.

How ceramic protection is applied to a car body

Coating a car with nanoceramic protection is a complex and painstaking job that is carried out in stages and requires compliance with certain conditions:

  • Thorough cleaning, washing and degreasing of surfaces with compounds that do not damage paintwork;
  • Polishing (removing residues of polishing compounds, grains of sand and other small fragments);
  • Elimination of chips, deep scratches and other defects;
  • Final polishing (to a mirror shine stage);
  • Application of multi-layer ceramic coating (usually from 3 to 10 layers);
  • Drying (8-10 hours).

It is also necessary to ensure a certain temperature regime and exclude the possibility of accidental ingress of water. This process is called Ceramic PRO 9h polishing; in Moscow, such a service is quite in demand. The cost is reasonable considering the benefits this gives to the car owner.

When applied, Ceramic PRO 9h will protect your car and ensure its impeccable appearance, not even for months, but for years. Ordering Ceramic PRO 9h car treatment in Moscow at our detailing center is the right choice. High-quality materials, modern equipment, extensive practical experience and a professional approach will ensure a result that will not disappoint you. Film against ceramics. What's better?

Car enthusiasts who have experience owning a new car know better than others how quickly a “zero car” becomes a “used” one and how easily it loses value if not properly cared for. Every scratch on the paintwork means extra months of waiting for the buyer and lost money during the subsequent sale. And the more elite the car, the more expensive small and often almost invisible defects in the varnish are.

High-quality film is almost invisible. And therefore it does not spoil the appearance of the car. The choice of film is extremely important. Cheap coatings can damage a car's paintwork more than bird droppings and sharp gravel.

Dmitry K. Vladimir. Land Rover Discovery IV (2013).

In 2017, I covered the hood, fenders, headlights and bumper with polyurethane film. It was done in Moscow in a company that deals with detailing. A year later, a bubble appeared in the middle of the hood - the film had moved away from the body. As I understand it, it bounced due to temperature changes in the cold. I came to the same company to change the film. The film was removed, but some of the glue remained on the hood. The glue had to be literally peeled off from the varnish. While they were cleaning it off, I thought I would turn grey. But no big disaster happened. I don’t put film on my car anymore. We made ceramics. I like it so far."

To protect or not to protect?

A car treated with ceramics or coated with film looks great and can withstand road sandblasting, dirty splashes and similar troubles without affecting the factory paintwork. If defects such as cobwebs from sand or small chips appear on the protective coating, they are localized inside the protective layer - be it film or ceramics. They do not affect the paint.

And then the thought naturally comes to mind: it always makes sense to protect a car, because cars with perfect varnish sell faster, even if you set the maximum market price. Ideally, the car should go straight from the showroom to the detailing department so that it can be covered with film or treated with a protective compound.

The owner protected the nose of the car with film. Over time, the film lost its transparency and gloss. Now the nose of the car began to look untidy. The film needs to be polished or replaced.

If defended, then with what?

There is a split among motorists who own premium cars. Some believe that the only worthy protection is film. Others stand with their chests for “ceramics”. However, a specialist will say that both options are compromises. And here it is important to weigh all the pros and cons, decide on your priority coating qualities in order to choose the only acceptable option.

Andrey D. Audi Q5 II 2018, Moscow.

I bought the car this summer. From the very beginning, I included protection for the body and interior in the budget. The outside was covered with ceramics in 4 layers. Last month, a thorny branch of either acacia or some other similar rubbish stretched across the side of the side. I looked and was stunned - 4 scratches all over the body. I call the master and go for an inspection. The master said that if it weren’t for ceramics, he would have had to paint it. And so they polished and refilled the place. He escaped with a slight fright and a small amount of money. Otherwise you would have to paint the entire side.

We compared top polyurethane film (Hexis, Santek PPF) and premium ceramics I-Shield 9H+. The chosen film is a high-gloss solution and can even be polished. I-Shield 9H+ ceramics is currently the best offer in terms of price and quality ratio. Although, no. In terms of quality, it has no equal on the market today.

From an aesthetic point of view, ceramics are preferable to film. The treated car looks natural. Ceramics are completely invisible and do not change the appearance of the car in any way.

All protective coatings, be it film, ceramics, or liquid glass, are applied only to prepared machines. Preparation costs money and is included in the price of the “booking” service. In the case of films, preparation is somewhat more expensive, since in addition to standard cleaning and polishing procedures, reinforcement work is also performed. That is, some external body elements are dismantled and then installed back.

Cost of applying premium film and ceramics 9 H+
(using the example of a mid-size SUV)

Subtotal

  • Preparing a car for wrapping with film objectively costs more.
  • Just anyone will not stick the film on. The quality of protection depends on the qualifications of the specialist. The master must be well trained and thoroughly trained in his craft.
  • The film application process takes longer and requires significant effort from the master. Therefore, the work of the master itself is expensive.
  • High cost of high-quality polyurethane film. A linear meter of original premium material on a PET substrate costs from 4,500 rubles.

Now it’s the turn to talk about the objective advantages of materials.

Kirill S. Owner of BMW X5 III ( F15) 30 d – 2015 Vladimir.

My car is under film and under ceramics. I protected the car immediately when I bought it. And I never regretted it. Last year, the film on the bumper had to be changed: it rubbed against the concrete curb and resulted in deep scratches. There wasn't enough paint. The new film on the bumper began to stand out with gloss. The craftsmen offered to polish the entire car. The film on the hood and fenders also shone like new. The ceramics were polished. A new layer of ceramics was placed over the film as well. This is new to me. In general, it cost a pretty penny. But if the paint had peeled off, the bumper would have had to be painted. So the money on protection was not wasted.

polyurethane film and super-hard ceramics

Why is vinyl film dangerous?

Often, after reading reviews on the Internet, car enthusiasts come to the conclusion that cheap and expensive films protect the car in approximately the same way. If you just need to protect your car from scratches, why spend money on polyurethane?

The nose of this car is protected with film. To prevent the film from being scratched, it was additionally treated with ceramics. With this approach, the film can be polished again and again.

But why!

  1. Vinyl scratches easily. Scratches appear during the installation process.
  2. The film changes the appearance of the element. The glued element is visually different from the un-glued one in shagreen and in appearance.
  3. Vinyl doesn't breathe. This has a detrimental effect on the strength of the paintwork (microcracks appear, and if there are unfixed chips under the film, then there is a risk of developing pockets of rust).
  4. After six months the film becomes matte.
  5. Vinyl has minimal elasticity, so in the cold this film hardens and cracks.
  6. Vinyl that has been glued for a long time is difficult to remove without damaging the paintwork. Often there is glue left on the vinyl varnish that has to be literally peeled off. The risk of paintwork damage is very high.
  7. Vinyl cannot be polished. Polishing does not remove scratches. It is impossible to restore a pleasant appearance.

The advantages of expensive polyurethane over vinyl are obvious. But “reserving” the entire car with high-quality film costs 200 thousand rubles. Add another 100 thousand a year for standard maintenance costs. Against this background, premium ceramics looks like a very attractive offer. Even if in a year or two the car has to be re-polished and the protective layer renewed, you still get impressive savings. As a result, the car looks cool all the time. Regardless of age and mileage, it looks new. Minor flaws are not noticeable on the body even after a year of daily use.

The rest of the body is treated with 9H+ category ceramics. Now paintwork is not afraid of sandblasting. As soon as cloudiness appears, the car is polished again. In this case, a thin layer of ceramics is removed, and the varnish layer is not affected.

So what to choose – film or ceramics?

Some car enthusiasts choose the third option: the front part of the car is sealed with a high-quality anti-gravel film, and the rest of the body, along with the wheels, is treated with ceramics. Once a year in the fall the car comes in for polishing. After each polishing, the ceramics is renewed - a new layer is added to compensate for what was removed by polishing. This approach seems reasonable, and practice is the best confirmation of this.

The owner decides which protection option to choose for the car, guided by his experience, beliefs and expectations. Which path you choose is up to you to decide. Both film and ceramics - both options will make the car less vulnerable to sand, fine gravel, tree branches, and bird droppings. However, it is extremely important to remember that anti-gravel film and super-hard ceramics do not replace proper car care. What this care should be like and how much it should cost – we will talk about this in our next article.
