Blue light bulbs in fine dimensions

What fine does a driver face for installing blue or green lights?

The issue of installing colored, namely green or blue, side lights on a vehicle is actually very serious. Some motorists, in order to surprise others, are ready to resort to the most radical, sometimes completely inappropriate and unacceptable measures. You need to tune your “iron” horse wisely and without fanaticism, otherwise such radicalism can lead to fines and even deprivation of rights. Those who like to turn their car into a Christmas tree will pay dearly for their inappropriate and dangerous fantasies.

It is necessary to remember about your own safety, and not to forget about the well-being of others on the roads. The regulations and requirements of traffic rules apply to all motorists without exception, therefore LED devices must comply with established standards. What color should side lights be, why are different colors of lighting not allowed, and where can I find information regarding this issue? We'll talk about this in the article.

Where can I find information about the ban on installing blue or green lights in traffic lights?

Instead of guessing from the tea leaves and listening to idle conversations and stories, let’s turn to the source, where you can find all the answers to the questions that interest any motorist. In general, it is useful to periodically flip through the traffic rules and recall the articles of the law in memory, especially recently, since many points of the law are changing and becoming stricter. This is, of course, connected with safe traffic on the roads, with the establishment of order, because recently the number of vehicles has increased significantly, and drivers themselves sometimes forget how necessary it is to comply with traffic laws and be respectful of themselves and others. So, we are looking for an answer...

It is contained in the main road document, the traffic rules. There are fundamental rules for allowing a car to be used. They are stated in the appendix that is given to the basics, namely the third section of paragraph 3.6 states:

  • that the front lights must be white, yellow or orange, and the light return devices must be white only. Otherwise, operation of the vehicle is prohibited. Try to challenge the shades of white; if you are not completely colorblind, then it is clear that installing green and blue bulbs on the side lights is fraught with punishment.
  • As for the rear lights, here too, in addition to white, yellow or orange, others are prohibited. For reflective tail lights, only red is acceptable.
  • Only a white light shade can illuminate the numbers on the license plate on the back of the vehicle.

Drivers who want to brighten up their vehicle and improve its appearance can only illuminate the underside with colored lights and highlight the rear registration plate as an addition. Such a constructive installation, in principle, can be allowed, but not in devices with basic functionality.

The mentioned article clearly states the ban on blue light bulbs in the main lighting fixtures and the punishment for such lighting “tricks”.

What color should the headlights of a vehicle be so that it can be used without fines?

If you carefully look through the Code of Administrative Violations and find Chapter 12 and Part 3, then you can definitely understand: driving a vehicle if there are headlights and dimensions in front of it that are not the appropriate color, the driver will face a fine. Therefore, it should be clearly understood that the car only has white, yellow or orange headlights, as well as red.

Where exactly, it is strictly forbidden to install blue or green lamps, as well as other shades: purple or brown, we found out - at the back and front of the car. It remains to be seen what this means for the owner of the car.

Penalty for having blue and green side lights on a car

Let us turn again to Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, from which it is clear that the punishment regarding the color of dimensions is quite severe. First of all, all “incorrect” devices will be removed and confiscated, and secondly, the driver will lose his right to drive a car for a fairly long period: from six months to one year. Isn't it harsh? And this, at first glance, is due to some devices and lights.

Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation Article 12.5.
Driving a vehicle in the presence of malfunctions or conditions under which the operation of vehicles is prohibited, or a vehicle on which the identification sign “Disabled” is illegally installed. Driving a vehicle on the front part of which lights with red lights or red reflective devices are installed, as well as lighting devices, the color of the lights and the mode of operation of which do not comply with the requirements of the Basic Provisions for the admission of vehicles to operation and the duties of officials to ensure road safety - entails deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of six months to one year with confiscation of the specified devices and accessories.

Of course, the decision on such a terrible punishment is made only by a judge and is carried out according to all the rules of the law, with the obligatory presence of a court order and act.

Confiscation of devices also happens for a reason, but always with two witnesses and a video recording of the procedure for removing the lighting devices. An act is drawn up and each action is recorded on the basis of Article 243 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. The driver has the right to challenge such actions in court. This is rarely crowned with success, because he himself is to blame.

Usually, upon arrest, the inspector charges the owner of the car, after which the above-mentioned actions take place.

According to statistics, cases with the installation of blue-green light bulbs on the dimensions are not so common, because even if they are sold in specialized stores, they are used primarily for illuminating the interior of a car or for illuminating the control panel, but not for external lighting . One can only be surprised at those craftsmen and extreme sports enthusiasts who risk their driving reputation and license for an incomprehensible “show off”.

So, let's summarize the main postulates that this article was devoted to. In paragraph 3.6, the list of various faults that prevent the car from moving anywhere clearly states the following:

  • Only white, yellow or orange lights can be installed on the front of the car for lighting fixtures.
  • Only red, yellow or orange lighting devices are allowed to be installed on the rear of the car.
  • The number on the rear panel and the reverse lights are also only white.

Any other tint lamps are not allowed for use on mechanical vehicles, and if this simple rule is not followed, vehicle owners are severely punished.

Please note that there is no talk of blue, violet or green lights, and cannot be. So is it worth depriving yourself of the pleasure of driving your own car for the sake of its extraordinary appearance and “color show”, which confuses other road users and brings nothing but complications and troubles.

In general, the issue of road lighting for vehicles has several aspects, and drivers, especially of “cool cars,” often use halogen lamps; many cars have different ignition and connection methods. Each brand of car has its own characteristics, therefore, when replacing lighting devices, the driver should contact a specialist to install lighting devices that will not interfere with others on the road. Have a nice trip everyone!

How to avoid a fine for headlights? Requirements for lighting devices

Traffic rules regulate a variety of aspects of the use of motor vehicles. This also applies to lighting devices such as headlights and signal lights. After all, the safety of all road users depends on their correct operation.

Today, many drivers are interested in the question: what is the fine for violating the use of lighting devices? Is it possible to avoid a fine and how to contribute to this? We will consider these and many other issues related to the use of car headlights in this article.

What is the penalty for failure to comply with the required requirements?

For daytime running lights

Based on traffic regulations, the use of DRLs is mandatory in the following cases :

  • transportation of minor children;
  • riding a motor vehicle;
  • transportation of oversized or dangerous and explosive substances;
  • on minibuses and public transport.

According to Article 19 of the Traffic Regulations, paragraph 19.5, all drivers while driving in the city and on the highway are required to turn on DRLs or low beam lights, or fog lights. If these requirements are met, adequate safety for pedestrians and other motorists on the road will be ensured.

If these requirements are not met, the fine for violation will be 500 rubles (Article 12.20 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).

12.20 article of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. Violation of the rules for using external lighting devices, sound signals, hazard warning lights or warning triangles

Violation of the rules for using external lighting devices, sound signals, hazard warning lights or warning triangles - entails a warning or the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of five hundred rubles.

Turn signals not included

Before performing various maneuvers in any situation, the driver undertakes to turn on the turn signals, regardless of whether there are other cars on the road.

Responsibility for violating the rules of maneuvering is based on Part 1 of Article 12.14 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which states that for this traffic violation the driver:

  1. give a warning;
  2. or a fine of 500 rubles is issued.

Read more about the fine for not turning on the turn signal and driving in the wrong direction here.

Low beam off

Since 2010, drivers have been required to drive with low beams on at all times, day and night. According to Article 12.20 of the Administrative Code, the amount of the fine issued for headlights without low beams on will be 500 rubles .

Inoperative or driving with one faulty

  • the violator pays a fine of 500 rubles due to a faulty or dirty lighting device;
  • or the driver may be limited to a verbal warning.

Installation of light bulbs of blue and other colors in dimensions

According to paragraphs of Article 3 of the Traffic Regulations, the list of acceptable colors of lighting devices is as follows :

  1. At the front of the vehicle, white, yellow or orange colors are acceptable.
  2. Only red, yellow and orange devices are installed at the rear of the vehicle.
  3. When illuminating the rear license plate and reversing lights, only white can be used.

The blue color is not indicated in this paragraph, because installing blue or blue light bulbs is an offense in which the operation of vehicles is prohibited in accordance with Part 3 of Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which specifies the permitted colors.

The presence of lighting devices whose color and mode of operation of the lights contradicts road safety requirements guarantees deprivation of rights for a period of 6-12 months with confiscation of these devices and devices (12.5 of the Administrative Code).

Using non-standard xenon

The light from xenon lamps can blind drivers in oncoming and passing lanes. This happens when using xenon lamps with “halogen” reflectors, in which case it is directed anywhere but onto the road.

They can also interfere with neighboring and oncoming cars and cause discomfort to their drivers. With xenon bulbs, the car has very bright lighting. The light becomes more intense, but due to unsuitable reflectors, xenon headlights do not illuminate the road as they should . The light falls very close to the car itself, which significantly worsens the illumination of the road.

In this case, paragraph 3.4 of Article 3 of the Traffic Regulations is applied, indicating the absence of lenses or the use of lenses and lamps that do not correspond to the type of this lighting device. Despite the absence of a fine for the use of non-standard xenon, its installation, one way or another, is a violation of the specified traffic rules.

The inspector needs to carry out an inspection in accordance with Part 1 of Article 27.9 of the Code of Administrative Offenses to be completely convinced that the “left” xenon is actually installed.

Installation of LED lamps

In this case, paragraph 3.1 of Article 3 of the Traffic Regulations is taken into account. Malfunctions and conditions under which there is no right to use transport.

The number, type, color, location and operating mode of external lighting devices do not meet the design requirements of the vehicle itself. Punishments for such a violation are provided for in paragraph 3 of Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses :

  • For installing LED bulbs in halogen headlights, you will be deprived of your license for 6-12 months.
  • When completely replacing halogen headlights with LED ones, a violation of paragraph 3.1 of Article 3 of the Traffic Regulations is provided. The fine for diode bulbs in headlights will be 500 rubles.

Rear instrument tinting

In part 3 of Art. 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses there are no specific instructions or prohibitions on tinting rear headlights . Administrative penalties are carried out in accordance with the first part of the article, which states that driving a vehicle with defects, or in case of failure to obtain the right to operate a car, will be punishable by a fine of 500 rubles.

According to safety rules, the tint film should absorb no more than 15% of the brightness of the emitted light (it is important to place special emphasis on the headlights). In cases of a different situation, the use of transport will be prohibited.

You will find more information about fines for tinting rear and front headlights in this article.

Using special signal

  • taxi lamp;
  • reflective stripes of various special services;
  • taxi checkers and sound signals.

It is important to note that Article 12.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation does not provide for responsibility for driving vehicles with these signals. This will already constitute an offense when driving a car with special signals. These warnings are specified in Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

According to 12.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, parts 2 and 3 for the following violations:

  1. A fine of 5,000 rubles is issued and also entails confiscation of the subject of the administrative offense.
  2. For officials who are responsible for the use of a vehicle, the fine will be 20,000 rubles, followed by confiscation.
  3. For legal representatives – 500,000 rubles with confiscation.

Illegal application of specially designed color schemes of emergency service vehicles or the color scheme of a passenger taxi to the outer surface of a vehicle is also an offence. The following penalties are provided for the use of special designations :

  • a fine of 5,000 rubles;
  • officials responsible for the operation of transport - 20,000 rubles;
  • legal – 500,000 rubles.

The traffic police fines are periodically amended, about 2-3 times a year. It is worth visiting the official pages from time to time and checking the relevance of the information provided.

Fine (deprivation of rights) for blue dimensions (green) (Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation)

Improving and upgrading a vehicle, or, more simply, tuning, can go to the extreme. To the extreme which is associated with danger on the road. And on the road, safety must come first! After all, no appearance can replace lost health, much less life. What we all mean is that when operating a vehicle, it is necessary to comply with the requirements prescribed by traffic rules and other regulatory documents that advocate for our peace of mind. Let's say you put xenon in the headlights that are blinding, or LEDs in the headlights of the wrong color. As a result, from afar in the dark it is not clear whether there is a car there or a Christmas tree. And from here all possible unpleasant consequences follow. In addition, the driver of such a car may also be charged a fine. So, can they issue a fine for dimensions of the wrong color, no matter blue, green, yellow or another color, on what basis and how much!? It is this question that we will answer in our article.

Where does it say that blue (green) lamps cannot be installed in the dimensions?

Let's turn to the basics, to the traffic rules, namely to the document “Traffic rules of the Russian Federation, Basic provisions for the approval of vehicles...”. Here we will be interested in the appendix to this section “List of faults and conditions under which the operation of the vehicle is prohibited.” In section 3, paragraph 3.6 prohibits operation if:

The vehicle is equipped with: at the front - lighting devices with lights of any color except white, yellow or orange, and retroreflective devices of any color except white;

Here all that remains is to argue about the shades and what is white light and what is something else.
But if you want to go to the extreme, then this topic can of course be developed, but we won’t. Actually, from the logical conclusions it becomes clear that blue or green dimensions do not fit into the concept of the List of Malfunctions and Conditions at all... So, if there is a violation, then there is a punishment for it.

Fine for having blue (green) lights on a car

Let's look through the booklet of the Code of Administrative Offenses under Chapter 12 and understand that for dimensions of the wrong color, one of the most universal articles will be used, namely 12.5. Here you need to refer to part 3

Driving a vehicle on the front of which are installed lighting devices with red lights or red reflective devices, as well as lighting devices, the color of the lights and the mode of operation of which do not comply with the requirements of the Basic Regulations for the Admission of Vehicles... entails deprivation of the right to drive vehicles. for a period of 6 months to 1 year with confiscation of the specified instruments and devices.

Yes, it should be noted that the seemingly harmless action of changing the color of the dimensions can be punished so severely.
Indeed, deprivation of a driver’s license, that is, a special license, is a rather harsh punishment. It only remains to note that the deprivation of a special right is carried out by a judicial act, that is, such a decision is made by a judge. If we talk about the confiscation of lamps with blue or green light, which is provided for by the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, then the confiscation must take place with 2 witnesses, or with a video recording. A protocol for the seizure of items will be drawn up. Confiscation of items of an administrative violation allows for Article 243 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. The inspector's decision can be challenged in court.

Detention of a vehicle if it has blue (green, yellow) dimensions installed

Also, a motorist may have questions about the possibility of detaining his vehicle if suddenly a traffic police inspector stops the car and charges him with dimensions of the wrong color. In order to answer the question about the possible detention of a vehicle, it is necessary to refer to Article 27.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. And here, when reading the article, it becomes clear that in relation to Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, detention can only be applied for part 2, and we have part 3. That is, they cannot detain a vehicle for blue (green) dimensions. Well, at least something makes me happy!

The current state of affairs with dimensions of the wrong color (blue, green, etc.)

Actually, most motorists already know that experimenting with the “wrong” light in dimensions is not worth it.
And those lamps of blue, green and other colors that are sold in auto parts stores are mainly intended for interior lighting and instrument lighting. That is, in reality we quite rarely encounter such an offense. As for shades of white, that is, when there were incandescent lamps and LEDs were inserted into the dimensions, then usually such a replacement takes place without consequences, that is, no one finds fault with the fact that a lamp with the wrong spectrum is installed in the socket, which is provided according to the manufacturer’s documentation TS. However, this cannot be said about xenon and LEDs, when such light sources are used in headlights for high and low beam.

Question and answer on the topic “Deprivation of rights for blue dimensions (green)”

Question: Is it possible to install blue lamps in dimensions?
Answer: No, this is prohibited by the Russian Traffic Regulations.

Question: What fine can be charged for blue (green) dimensions?
Answer: They won’t charge you a fine, but don’t rejoice! This offense is punishable by deprivation of rights for up to 1 year.

Penalty for blue headlights in 2020

Good afternoon, dear reader.

In this article we will talk about installing light devices with blue lights on a car, as well as possible punishment for blue headlights.

As a rule, drivers install blue lights as tuning, i.e. to improve the appearance of the car.

At the same time, blue lamps can be installed in headlights, side lights, daytime running lights, rear registration plate illumination, or as additional lighting under the bottom of the car.

Is it possible to install blue lamps in headlights and markers?

3.6. The vehicle is equipped with:

  • in front - lighting devices with lights of any color other than white, yellow or orange, and retroreflective devices of any color other than white;
  • at the rear - reverse lights and state registration plate lights with lights of any color other than white, and other lighting devices with lights of any color other than red, yellow or orange, as well as retroreflective devices of any color other than red.

This paragraph provides an exhaustive list of permitted colors of lighting devices:

The blue color of the headlights is not mentioned at all in this paragraph, i.e. installing blue or cyan bulbs in any case is a violation .

And not an ordinary violation, but a violation in which the operation of a vehicle is prohibited.

Deprivation of rights for blue light bulbs until 2019

Until June 25, 2019, judges considered the installation of blue light bulbs as a violation falling under Part 3 of Article 12.5 of the Administrative Code:

3. Driving a vehicle on the front of which are installed lighting devices with red lights or red reflective devices, as well as lighting devices, the color of the lights and the mode of operation of which do not comply with the requirements of the Basic Regulations for the admission of vehicles to operation and the duties of safety officials traffic, -

entails deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of six months to one year with confiscation of the specified instruments and accessories.

Thus, there was no monetary fine for blue lights in the parking lights or headlights. The driver immediately received a license deprivation for a period of 6 to 12 months.

Penalty for blue light bulbs in 2020

On June 25, 2019, the Resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court No. 20 was published, which contains the following paragraph in paragraph 6:

At the same time, if only the color or operating mode of the light devices installed on the vehicle does not comply with the above requirements, driving such a vehicle can be qualified under Part 1 of Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

When installing blue bulbs, only the color of the lighting fixtures changes. The operating mode does not change. Therefore, in 2019, the driver may be fined under Part 1 of Article 12.5 of the Administrative Code - 500 rubles or a warning.

This article is about installing blue light bulbs. This is due to the fact that cars with this violation can be found on Russian roads from time to time. However, information about this violation has not received wide publicity, unlike, for example, the installation of xenon or LED lamps. Therefore, few drivers who install blue lamps understand what punishment awaits them.

About a couple times a year I get questions about installing blue light bulbs. Most often, the point is that the driver wants to find out how lawfully the punishment was imposed for the wrong color of the lamps in the headlights. So I don’t recommend repeating this mistake. If your vehicle has blue or light blue bulbs, replace them with standard ones as soon as possible.

Note. The above information also applies to lighting devices of other non-standard colors : green, purple, brown. However, such options are much less common.

In addition, I would like to remind you that a driver may have his license revoked for using red lights on the front of the car.
