Maintenance period after purchasing a new car
When should a new car undergo inspection?
A technical inspection of a car is necessary to check its serviceability and technical condition. Depending on the year of manufacture and category of the vehicle, the law provides for different options.
The new rules came into force at the beginning of 2012. The question of what is the timing of inspection for new cars is of great importance for many car owners who have recently purchased a new car.
Despite significant changes made to the current rules, the technical examination procedure is relevant for all categories of cars. However, some of them may not undergo maintenance for a certain time.
This process makes it possible to identify all breakdowns and technical malfunctions and evaluates the performance of the vehicle using an extensive list of parameters.
At the end of the procedure, experts draw conclusions and give a conclusion; it can be not only positive, but also negative.
In some cases, the car does not pass technical inspection, then the owner is given 20 days to completely eliminate all problems. After the allotted time has passed, the machine must go through the procedure again.
If there are no faults, the driver will be able to receive a diagnostic card. These rules are relevant for those who want to find out after how many years new cars undergo technical inspection.
In accordance with the law, such cars are exempt from maintenance for three years. But you should understand in detail all possible nuances.
Vehicle age and maintenance period
Monitoring the technical condition of vehicles is regulated by regulations. This also applies to the age and status of vehicles that require technical inspection.
Previously, when undergoing maintenance, mandatory insurance was required from the owners. Now it is not needed for such a procedure.
The legislation establishes when to undergo technical inspection on a new car, and the frequency of receipt of maintenance for other vehicles.
When calculating the frequency of maintenance, the year of manufacture of the vehicle is also included. For example, if a car was manufactured in 2016, then a technical inspection must be done in 2019.
The validity period of the technical inspection is calculated in calendar years from the date of the first maintenance. Sometimes the owner, for some reason, needs to obtain a maintenance certificate before the expiration of the previous one. Then he can do it earlier in the general order.
When to undergo inspection on a new car
An important question remains when to undergo technical inspection on a new car.
According to the law, trucks weighing up to 3.5 tons, cars, motorcycles and other motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers not older than three years do not need to undergo technical inspection.
After a three-year period has passed from the year of their manufacture, the technical inspection procedure will become mandatory. The only exceptions are trailers weighing no more than 3.5 tons, when their owners are individuals.
Thus, technical inspection for a new car only needs to be done three years from the date of release of the car. If the car is from 3 to 7 years old, then it needs to undergo maintenance every two years. After 7 years - once a year.
When is a diagnostic card needed?
The diagnostic card is an important document for issuing an MTPL policy . It can be considered an analogue of a technical inspection ticket.
A distinctive feature is its content, information about the condition of the components and assemblies of the car is more detailed.
And the most important thing is the conclusion about whether the vehicle meets the special requirements and standards approved in European countries.
Changes in legislation allow you to refuse to undergo a technical inspection if the car is less than 3 years old. In 2019, even without a diagnostic card, you can apply for an MTPL policy for a new car.
The procedure for obtaining a diagnostic card has changed significantly:
- Now the traffic police do not take part in maintenance. Authorized stations are responsible for this. Their employees must conduct a thorough inspection of the car, and record the results in two paper and one electronic copies of the diagnostic card.
- One copy is given to the owner of the car; the operator enters all information electronically into the EAISTO system.
- If a person loses the diagnostic card, he will not face the same problems that he would have to face if he lost the car purchase agreement. The car owner can receive a duplicate of the diagnostic card even on the day of application after paying the state fee.
Despite the fact that a diagnostic card for a new car is not required, you should not delay too long in insuring your car under a compulsory motor liability insurance policy. Compulsory insurance always makes it possible to feel calm and confident on the road.
Sometimes situations arise when obtaining a diagnostic card for a new car may be necessary.
In the case of a sale or purchase, the future owner may insist on an inspection to ensure that his new property is in excellent condition.
Nuances you should know about
When to undergo a technical inspection on a new car is already clear, but there are some nuances that every vehicle owner should know about:
- The age of a car is determined not by the year it began operation, but by the year it was produced.
- In practice, a situation may arise where some insurance companies require a diagnostic card. They justify this by the fact that in the event of an accident, the owner of the car will not be paid for material damages, since he did not provide them with confirmation of the serviceability of the car - a diagnostic card. This requirement is not legal, so the correct decision would be to choose another insurance company.
- If a driver plans to drive a new car outside the Russian Federation, it is important to pay attention to the requirements of international conventions. Since one of the documents that must be presented at customs posts is a diagnostic card, which will confirm the serviceability of the vehicle. Sometimes this document is not enough for customs officers and they can conduct a technical inspection at the inspection site using special equipment.
- In addition to the above, it is important to pay attention to technical wear and tear. The condition of the car depends on driving style, quality of operation and other circumstances.
You should always remember that if there is a serious malfunction that was not identified because the vehicle was not inspected until the car was three years old, the car can cause significant harm to road users.
Therefore, experts advise that you still undergo vehicle maintenance for your own peace of mind.
In accordance with the law, passing a technical inspection for a new car is not required. No one will check the presence of a diagnostic card.
When concluding an MTPL agreement, insurance organizations also do not have the right to demand it. A diagnostic card for a new car may only be needed when selling it.
Video: When do you need to undergo a technical inspection after registering your car?
Inspection of a new car: after how many years is the procedure required?
As soon as a person gets a car, the concept of “technical inspection” inevitably enters his life.
The rules for passing and the structures authorized to carry it out change, but the technical inspection process itself remains unchanged.
The rules for diagnostic inspection of cars were changed quite a lot a few years ago, and now the question often arises: “how to undergo a technical inspection of a new car and after how many years does it need to be done?”
No special documents are required to complete the procedure. Everything is standard: the owner’s passport, driver’s license, PTS and car registration certificate, power of attorney, if the vehicle owner is not responsible for the technical inspection.
New rules for passing technical inspection
So, let’s figure out when (how many years after purchase) you need to undergo technical inspection on a new car. There were no special innovations in the rules in 2016. There are new changes (quite radical ones) that appeared in previous years. Not all car enthusiasts still know about them.
Today, the law on vehicle diagnostics, adopted in 2011, with subsequent amendments and additions, and the rules introduced in 2012 with amendments from 2014 are still relevant. According to these and some other legislative and regulatory acts in our country, all cars are subject to technical inspection. Exceptions: cars less than three years old from the date of manufacture are not inspected.
This list includes:
- Cars;
- trucks (no more than 3.5 tons);
- motorcycles;
- trailers and semi-trailers.
The technical condition of a new car during the warranty period is controlled by the car owner himself.
Reputable car dealerships usually provide a three or five year warranty when selling. Within a year, they may offer to carry out a technical check of the car in their specialized center or do it at the buyer’s request.
According to the latest rules, technical inspection, at the discretion of the car owner, can be carried out anywhere, and not just at the place of registration, as was the case before. This innovation is undoubtedly very convenient for car owners.
Technical inspection can now be carried out at any authorized organization. Previously, this could only be done at the traffic police department at the driver’s place of registration.
Document of serviceability
Experienced drivers remember that previously a special inspection ticket was issued. Some time ago (in 2012), coupons were abolished.
Now a diagnostic card is a document confirming the excellent technical condition of a vehicle.
What is she like?
This is a standard A4 document in the form of a table. The table includes complete information about vehicles. Plus a conclusion about whether it can be used or not.
The document is given a unique number. It is certified by the signature of a technical expert. One copy is kept by the expert for three years, the second is issued to the car owner. It is impossible to counterfeit the card, since it is electronically included in a unified automated information system of technical services, where it remains for up to five years.
Now, if you lose the paper version of the card, you can always restore it. Moreover, it is completely free, just like the original diagnostic card, because the state duty has been cancelled.
Owners of new cars do not need a diagnostic card. The serviceability of the vehicle is confirmed by the fact that its service life is less than three years.
It is enough to have a title and a certificate of ownership. These documents contain information about the production date of the machine.
When does a new car undergo inspection?
As soon as the car is three years old, including the year of manufacture, it will be necessary to undergo a technical inspection.
If a car that is not yet three years old is sold, the new owner does not need to carry out a technical inspection until the car “celebrates” its third anniversary. It's the same with the road map. It does not need to be changed when selling or buying a car before its expiration date.
A vehicle passport is one of the main documents for a car. But what if it is lost? How to restore a PTS - necessary documents for issuing a duplicate.

Deadlines for passing technical inspection
Many people are concerned about how long a technical inspection is valid for a new car.
After the service life of a new car without a diagnostic card has expired and the first technical inspection has been passed, the car should be prepared for the next procedure only after two years.
According to the current rules, cars between three and seven years old are inspected every two years.
Cars that were produced more than seven years ago undergo annual technical inspection.
A number of vehicles - passenger transport, taxis, trucks transporting dangerous goods - are required to check their technical condition every six months.
The rules allow that a car owner, including a new car, on his own initiative, if he suspects a malfunction, can apply for an extraordinary technical inspection and undergo it at a certified diagnostic center.
How is the technical inspection carried out?
The procedure takes place according to 65 parameters and includes the following main points:
- instrumental diagnostics are carried out;
- the operation of the braking and driving systems (tire condition) is analyzed;
- looks like lighting devices, headlight adjustment;
- the degree of play in the steering wheel and suspension is assessed;
- exhaust emissions are checked for toxicity in accordance with the standard;
- checked for compliance with standards - technical fluids;
- the operation of door locks, wipers and washers is examined;
- looks at the condition of the rear view mirrors;
- the degree of glass transparency is assessed;
- seat belts are checked for functionality and compliance;
- the presence of license plates is checked;
- The presence, compliance with standards and expiration date of the fire extinguisher and first aid kit, and the presence of an emergency triangle are checked.
If the car is in good working order in all respects, a diagnostic card is issued confirming successful completion of the technical inspection. Otherwise, a card is issued with a conclusion that further operation of the car is impossible. A list of faults is also attached here, the period for correction of which is given three weeks. Then resubmit the vehicle for inspection. Re-inspection is carried out only according to the list of faults.
If after 21 days the car is not presented, in the future the technical inspection will have to be repeated in all respects.
Inspection and motor vehicle liability
According to current rules, before insuring a car and receiving a compulsory motor liability insurance policy, you must undergo a technical inspection. Previously, it was the other way around: first insurance, then technical inspection.
The insurer's requirement to provide a diagnostic card for a car that is not required to have one is illegal.
Cost of the procedure
Inspection of cars in 2016 can cost about 700 rubles, trucks on average from a thousand to one and a half thousand.
Payments go through Sberbank using the details of the organization performing the procedure.
If the vehicle license plates are lost or damaged, they must be replaced. Restoration of car license plates is carried out officially by the traffic police.
Immediately after purchasing the car, the ownership documents have not yet been drawn up, but the driver can drive for some time under the purchase and sale agreement. We will tell you how long you can travel under this agreement here.
Do you need to undergo a technical inspection for a new car and for how many years is a certificate of completion issued? Read on this page.
Responsibility under the law for the technical serviceability of a vehicle is borne by the manufacturer or car dealer for the first three years from the date of release, then after passing the technical inspection - by an authorized organization represented by its expert.
And, nevertheless, the car owner is the main responsible person in this matter. It is he who must monitor and promptly check the technical condition of the car, thereby guaranteeing himself and others safety while driving on the road.

Frequency of technical inspection and validity period of the diagnostic card
Good afternoon, dear reader.
In this article we will continue to consider changes to the Federal Law “On Technical Inspection of Vehicles,” which was already discussed in the previous article “Vehicle Diagnostic Card instead of a Technical Inspection Card.” Let me remind you that in 2019, technical inspection coupons and international certificates were completely replaced by new diagnostic cards.
Today we will talk about the validity period of diagnostic cards, as well as the frequency of technical inspection of various vehicles. In addition, other features that have been introduced by the latest amendments will be considered:
Passing inspection at the dealer
So, the first feature that will be discussed today is passing a vehicle inspection at the dealer:
17) dealer - a legal entity or individual entrepreneur registered on the territory of the Russian Federation and providing, on its own behalf and at its own expense, in accordance with an agreement concluded with the manufacturer and (or) importer (distributor) of vehicles of certain brands, servicing of such vehicles .
7) technical inspection operator - a legal entity or individual entrepreneur accredited in the prescribed manner for the right to conduct technical inspection;
7) technical inspection operator - a legal entity or individual entrepreneur (including a dealer), accredited in the prescribed manner for the right to conduct technical inspection;
So, in 2020, an official dealer can act as a technical inspection operator . What follows from this? If you undergo scheduled maintenance at a dealer in the near future, you will have the opportunity to receive a diagnostic card, which can subsequently be used when purchasing an MTPL policy.
It is still difficult to say whether this will bring savings in monetary terms, but you can definitely save time on passing a technical inspection.
Diagnostic card validity period
We will talk about the frequency of technical inspection a little later, but now let’s look at what the validity period of a diagnostic card affects:
5. The owner of the vehicle is obliged to present it for technical inspection during the validity period of the technical inspection coupon or international technical inspection certificate.
5. The owner of the vehicle is obliged to present it for technical inspection during the validity period of the diagnostic card.
So, in accordance with the latest changes in legislation, you are required to submit the car for technical inspection during the validity period of the diagnostic card. The deadline itself, of course, will be indicated on the card itself.
Once again I would like to draw your attention to the fact that you need to go for a technical inspection not after the date indicated in the diagnostic card, but before it occurs .
Frequency of technical inspection
Well, the latest amendments that may be of interest to the average car enthusiast relate to the frequency of technical inspection .
2. A technical inspection is not required in the first three years, including the year of issue, for the following vehicles (except for the vehicles specified in paragraphs 1 and 3 of part 1 of this article):
1) passenger cars with a permissible maximum weight up to three tons five hundred kilograms;
2) trucks with a permissible maximum weight of up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
3) trailers and semi-trailers, the permissible maximum weight of which is up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
4) motor vehicles.
2. A technical inspection is not required in the first three years, including the year of manufacture, for the following vehicles (except for the vehicles specified in paragraphs 1 and 3 of part 1 of this article):
1) passenger cars;
2) trucks with a permissible maximum weight of up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
3) trailers and semi-trailers, with the exception of vehicles specified in Part 4 of Article 32 of this Federal Law;
4) motor vehicles.
So, please note that several phrases are excluded from the previous paragraph of the federal law.
Firstly, all passenger cars are now exempt from technical inspection for the first 3 years, regardless of their weight.
Secondly, all trailers and semi-trailers are also exempt from technical inspection in the first 3 years. Here, just in case, let me remind you that trailers owned by individuals and having a permissible maximum weight of less than 3500 kg, from January 1, 2012, do not have to undergo technical inspection at all. All other trailers and semi-trailers can ignore technical inspection only in the first 3 years.
By the way, previously trailers and semi-trailers with a permissible maximum weight of more than 3.5 tons did not appear at all in the Federal Law “On Technical Inspection,” which caused misunderstanding among their owners. This inaccuracy has now been corrected.
Thirdly, another ambiguity has been eliminated. Now 3 years are calculated not from the date of release into circulation, but from the date of release of the vehicle. Those. old cars imported from abroad and put into circulation this year no longer have any privileges in terms of technical inspection. This is quite logical.
From 3 to 7 years
4) every twenty-four months in relation to the following vehicles, from the year of release into circulation of which three to seven years have passed, including the year of their release into circulation (except for vehicles specified in paragraphs 1 and 3 of this part):
a) passenger cars vehicles with a permissible maximum weight of up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
b) trucks with a permissible maximum weight of up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
c) trailers and semi-trailers, the permissible maximum weight of which is up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
d) motor vehicles.
4) every twenty-four months in relation to the following vehicles, from the year of manufacture of which three to seven years have passed, including the year of their manufacture (except for the vehicles specified in paragraphs 1 and 3 of this part):
a) passenger cars;
b) trucks with a permissible maximum weight of up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
c) trailers and semi-trailers, with the exception of vehicles specified in Part 4 of Article 32 of this Federal Law;
d) motor vehicles.
Over 7 years old
2) every twelve months in relation to the following vehicles, more than seven years have passed since the year of their release into circulation, including the year of their release into circulation (except for the vehicles specified in paragraphs 1 and 3 of this part):
a) passenger cars, the permitted maximum weight of which is up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
b) trucks with a permissible maximum weight of up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
c) trailers and semi-trailers, the permissible maximum weight of which is up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
d) motor vehicles;
2) every twelve months in relation to the following vehicles, from the year of release of which more than seven years have passed into circulation, including the year of their release indicated in the vehicle passport and (or) vehicle registration certificate (hereinafter referred to as the year of release) (for with the exception of vehicles specified in paragraphs 1 and 3 of this part):
a) cars;
b) trucks with a permissible maximum weight of up to three tons, five hundred kilograms;
c) trailers and semi-trailers, with the exception of vehicles specified in Part 4 of Article 32 of this Federal Law;
d) motor vehicles;
Similar changes have occurred in two more paragraphs of the Federal Law “On Technical Inspection of Vehicles”.
Now, firstly, the calculation of the frequency of technical inspection is carried out starting from the year of their manufacture .
Secondly, all cars, semi-trailers and trailers (except light trailers owned by individuals) must undergo technical inspection at the following intervals:
- 3 years after graduation.
- 5 years after graduation.
- 7 years after graduation.
- Then every year.
This concludes the consideration of changes to the Federal Law “On Technical Inspection of Vehicles”. If you wish, you can study the current text of the document yourself.
Well, in the following articles on the SDA Master we will talk about changes to other automotive regulatory legal documents.
Date of the first maintenance after purchasing a car: when to undergo inspection on a new car?
A vehicle technical inspection is a procedure for allowing vehicles to be used.
It is carried out in order to exclude from the road traffic vehicles that are too dilapidated and poorly maintained, which can cause a traffic accident due to the failure of some important component, for example, brakes.

When are new cars required to undergo inspection by law?
All vehicles operated on public roads must undergo periodic technical inspection , during which experts evaluate the reliability and reliability of all components and assemblies of the vehicle.
The frequency of diagnostics is regulated by the Law on Technical Inspection; it is different for each category of vehicle.
However, for new cars without mileage, the legislation provides relief. Thus, according to Part 2 of Article 15 of the Law on Maintenance, cars less than three years have passed since their production date can be operated without a diagnostic card, and they do not require maintenance . The only exceptions are buses, taxis, special vehicles and trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons.
The year of production can be found in the vehicle passport.
Dealers often sell cars from previous years of production. Often they offer significant discounts on such cars. It is in this case that the first technical inspection must be done a year earlier.
- For example, the inspection date for a vehicle purchased and manufactured in 2017 will be in 2020.
- If you purchased a car assembled in 2016, then you will have to undergo a technical inspection in 2019, even if the car was purchased this year.
Today, only insurance companies check the validity period of a diagnostic card . There are no penalties for late maintenance. Therefore, many car owners go for inspection only before concluding the next MTPL policy. Such actions are fraught with trouble in the event of a traffic accident.
We are talking about the recourse right of the insurance company to the culprit of the accident who did not have a valid diagnostic card at the time of the accident. Recourse is the prerogative of the insurer to recover from the causer of harm all insurance compensation paid. Simply put, there are cases in which the insurance company can demand from the at-fault party the money that was compensated to the victim.
The grounds for recourse are listed in Article 14 of the MTPL Law . One of them is failure to comply with the frequency of technical inspection. That is, if, after paying the insurance compensation to the injured party, it turns out that the culprit driver has overdue the maintenance date, he will have to compensate the insurance company for all losses.
Where should I go for vehicle maintenance?
Many motorists remember that previously maintenance could only be done at the traffic police . The procedure was not very convenient and was accompanied by huge queues. Based on the results of the examination, a technical inspection certificate was issued, which some drivers attached under the windshield.
For the absence of a ticket, the inspector could issue the driver a fine of up to 800 rubles. Today this function of the traffic police has been abolished, and the technical inspection ticket has been cancelled. It was replaced by a new document - a diagnostic card.
Since 2012, the right to conduct maintenance has been transferred to commercial companies. But not all organizations have the right to carry out vehicle diagnostics, but only technical inspection operators accredited by the RCA.
The consumer can choose any operator at his discretion, regardless of the city of registration of the car. For example, it could be the organization with the most favorable rates, or the one closest to your home or place of work.
Frequency of diagnostics
The Federal Law on Technical Inspection regulates different frequency of diagnostics for all types of vehicles.
Maintenance is carried out once every six months:
- Trucks adapted for the transport of people, with a maximum of 8 seats.
- Buses.
- Taxi.
- Special transport transporting dangerous goods.
Every year:
- Cars, motorcycles and trailers that have been in operation for more than 7 years.
- Trucks.
- Training vehicles.
- Vehicles equipped with special signals.
Once every two years, vehicles whose production date is between 3 and 7 years receive a diagnostic card . These include:
- Cars.
- Trucks weighing up to 3.5 tons.
- Motorcycles.
- Trailers.
Each subsequent technical inspection is carried out before the expiration date of the current diagnostic card, regardless of the date of renewal of the MTPL policy. But the car owner may provide the car for inspection more often than is provided for by current legislation.
This is done for your own peace of mind, or to travel by vehicle abroad, to those countries where this is required.
Approximate prices and is there any duty?
There are no state fees for technical inspection , since this service is provided on a commercial basis. A corresponding agreement is concluded between the car owner and the operator. In this case, the operator himself sets the price for diagnostics.
The cost is set depending on the category of the vehicle, the scope of the procedures included in the inspection and the region.
The average price for obtaining a diagnostic card in Moscow is as follows:
- 700 rub. – passenger cars.
- 1400 rub. – buses.
- From 800 rub. up to 1600 rub. – trucks depending on the permitted weight.
- 300 rub. – motorcycles.
- 700 rub. – trailers.
It is important to undergo maintenance on time not only for the purpose of purchasing an insurance policy, but also for your own safety. A car is a vehicle of increased danger, so you need to operate it carefully, closely monitoring the technical condition of the car.

When to undergo technical inspection of a new car: rules, procedure and deadlines
A technical inspection of a car is an assessment of the condition of the car and its ability to participate in road traffic. Until recently, all cars, including new ones, had to undergo the procedure. Now the rules and features of the technical inspection of a new car have changed significantly, accordingly, the new law has already come into force.
Do owners of new cars undergo technical inspection?
On June 6, 2019, the government introduced changes to the current law regulating the procedure for technical inspection of vehicles. According to the initiative, the procedure is not carried out for the following types of transport less than three years old:
- passenger cars;
- trucks with a maximum permitted weight of up to 3.5 tons;
- motor vehicles;
- trailers and semi-trailers.
It follows from this that you do not need to obtain a diagnostic card for a new car during the first three years.
On the basis of which buyers are issued an insurance policy
After purchasing a car from a dealership, the owner has 10 days to apply for an MTPL policy. In this case, a certificate of technical inspection is not needed. It is enough to have the owner’s passport, a certificate of registration of the vehicle with the traffic police, a vehicle registration certificate, and the owner’s driver’s license.
OSAGO policy is issued for a new car without maintenance
To what extent is exemption from technical inspection granted?
If a new vehicle is heavier than 3.5 tons or will be used for commercial activities, an inspection by specialists must be carried out annually. All other vehicles are exempt for 3 years.
Are inspection and maintenance the same thing?
Inspection and maintenance are different procedures. Maintenance is carried out by the service center of the dealer company. It consists of changing oil, filters, spark plugs, as well as routine repairs. Maintenance does not imply the issuance of a diagnostic card.
How to undergo maintenance at the end of the release period
During a technical inspection, the condition of a number of important components is checked:
- Brake system. Tests are carried out on braking power in various situations.
- Control systems. It should be in good working order, without any errors.
- Lighting devices, namely the legality of their installation and the quality of lighting.
- Windshield wiper and washer systems.
- Tire tread depth, presence of various damages and swellings.
- The engine, as well as the entire propulsion system as a whole. Craftsmen, as a rule, are interested in the degree of wear.
Passing maintenance - checking the condition of vehicle components
Also subject to inspection is the integrity of belts, which are responsible for driving safety, sun visors, sound signals, rear-view mirrors, glass, license plates, door locks, and tinting.
Periodicity
How many times and over what period of time the procedure will need to be completed depends on the age of the car:
- from 3 to 7 years – every 2 years;
- Cars over 7 years old are checked once annually.
Taxis, buses and trucks up to 3.5 tons must undergo maintenance once every six months.
Mandatory maintenance for buses every six months
The initiated rules and features of the technical inspection of a new car have eased the lot of owners of cars purchased at a car dealership.
Step-by-step description of the procedure
The maintenance procedure is as follows:
- Find a service station that has a state certificate to carry out this type of inspection.
- Clarify all the conditions for undergoing maintenance at this point, including timing and cost.
- Provide a car.
- Wait for the procedure and receive a diagnostic card.
The document issued by the craftsmen will be needed to obtain a new MTPL policy.
When undergoing maintenance, you must provide the following package of documents:
- car passport;
- certificate of registration of the vehicle with the traffic police;
- driver's license and civil passport of the car owner.
Package of documents for passing MOT
Is it possible to get a diagnostic card online?
There are offers on the Internet from various companies to obtain the specified document online. It is important that in order to legally obtain a diagnostic card, it is necessary that the vehicle be inspected by specialists. Moreover, this must be done at a service station that has the appropriate certificate.
When applying for a card via the Internet, there is a high chance of running into scammers. The card must be checked so that it is included in the EAISTO database. The operator is at great risk if he issues it without carrying out a technical inspection.
Therefore, it is better not to take risks and actually drive the car if it is more than three years old. If, when checking the card, it turns out that it is fake, no insurance company will issue an MTPL policy.
Checking the diagnostic card using the EAISTO database
How much does it cost to undergo MOT in 2020?
The cost of maintenance directly depends on the type of transport and in 2020 is:
- motorcycles – 240 rubles;
- passenger cars – 800 rubles;
- trailers weighing up to 750 kg – 600 rubles;
- trailers weighing up to 10 tons - 1060 rubles;
- trucks - from 770 to 1060 rubles;
- passenger transport – 1290 – 1560 rub.
Repair of faults detected during maintenance
This is the full cost and you will not have to pay anything extra. If faults are found, you will need to repair the car according to the instructions of the operators, and then go through the MOT again, which means you will have to pay for it again.
Conclusion
Maintenance is an important procedure, without which the driver will not receive a compulsory motor liability insurance policy and the ability to drive freely on the roads. Starting this year, at the legislative level, the time when it is necessary to undergo technical inspection of a new car, as well as the rules and deadlines, have changed. Now, until the car is 3 years old, you don’t have to think about getting a technical inspection.
