Where to pay the car registration fee

State duty for car registration, details and payment methods at the traffic police

Vehicles driving on roads intended for driving must be registered with the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. The State Traffic Inspectorate charges a fee for registration services in the form of a state duty, the amount of which is established by law. Before visiting the branch, decide on the service you need, fill out the details for paying the state fee for registering a car with the traffic police and go with the check for registration.

We will analyze the cost of types of car registration, payment methods, how and where to pay.

How to correctly calculate the amount of state duty to pay for registration

Since January 1, 2017, the price of registration actions has increased, but there are also opportunities to save.

When registering a car, the total amount of the state duty consists of several registration actions of the traffic police. Let’s look at the types of services that the State Traffic Inspectorate provides for car registration and consider a couple of examples:

  1. Issuance of license plates for a car, including replacement of damaged and lost ones – 2,000 rubles;
  2. Issuance of license plates for motorcycles, trailers, tractors and self-propelled vehicles, including replacement of damaged and lost ones – 1,500 rubles;
  3. Issuance of a new vehicle passport if there is no free space to enter the new owner or the document is damaged - 800 rubles;
  4. Production of a new STS – 500 rubles;
  5. Indication of changes in PTS – 350 rubles;
  6. Payment for temporary registration of a vehicle at the place of stay – 350 rubles;
  7. Providing a Transit sign in the form of a metal number – 1,600 rubles for cars and 800 rubles for trailers and motorcycles;
  8. Transits on paper – 200 rubles for all types of equipment;
  9. Providing a certificate of compliance of the vehicle design with safety requirements - 800 rubles.

As an example, let’s calculate what fees you need to pay when registering a new car. You will need to get a license plate for the car, make an entry in the PTS and make a new certificate - these are points 1+4+5 from the list above, the amount is 2,850 rubles.

When buying a used car, if you can do without replacing the license plates, you will need to: make changes to the vehicle’s passport and produce a new STS - a total state duty of 850 rubles. As many

pay when replacing the engine or changing the color of the car. And if during registration you need a new technical passport for the car (the old one is filled out or damaged) – 1,300.

Determine what services from the traffic police will be required to register a car in your case, adding up the amounts, you will get the final amount of the state duty. Before going to the MREO after collecting documents for registration, pay.

4 ways to pay the fee for traffic police services

With the development of automation and the emergence of the possibility of receiving electronic services from the state, the number of options for transferring money has also increased. New features allow you to transfer money online from your phone or computer, but this is not always convenient yet, let’s look at why.

The state duty to the traffic police for registering a car can be paid:

  1. At a bank branch using a receipt;
  2. Through an ATM;
  3. Through payment terminals;
  4. Online using a bank card, e-wallets or mobile phone number.

Let's compare the options to highlight the pros and cons.

Cash desk at the bank

You can come with a completed receipt for payment or ask the cashier to prepare a form for a small amount. Provide the name of the registration department and bank employees will help you fill out the details correctly. The commission for banking services will not exceed 5-8%. The only negative is that you will have to come to the bank office. But the state duty will be sent where it should be and a check will be issued with a “live” stamp. This service is definitely provided at Sberbank.

Payment via ATM and terminal

Large traffic police departments have ATMs and terminals for ease of service. You can pay the fee when registering a car directly at the branch. In the payment device, select state duties, enter the payer's full name, passport information and payment amount - you will receive a check.

Registration department employees accept the check as proof of payment.

Online payment

To pay the duty via the Internet, we have 3 options:

  1. Public services;
  2. Sberbank Online;
  3. Other Internet services.

When paying the state fee for car registration through State Services, you can transfer money: from a bank card, electronic money (Yandex money or Webmoney), from the phone number of the main mobile operators. To confirm, print a receipt from your personal account and attach it to the package of documents for registration.

Until the end of 2020, when paying fees on the State Services website, a discount of 30% is provided. Discount is available only for individuals

Another way is to pay the state fee through the Sberbank service online. Only Sberbank card holders use the service.

After logging into your personal account on your computer, go to the “Payments and Transfers” section, select the “Staff Traffic Police Duties and Fines” section, select the card from which you want to make a payment and fill in your full name. Check the transfer details and pay. This is a method with a minimum commission.

You can make payments through other online services and online banks, the downside is that the applications charge a commission, the amount of which reaches 20-40% of the payment amount. The traffic police may ask for a check with a “blue” stamp on the receipt to confirm the payment. You will have to contact the organization through which the payment was made and request a check with an execution stamp. It is possible to do this, but it will take time.

As a result, in order not to look for the necessary bank details of the MREO branch, and not to run for stamps, contact the office of the bank closest to the traffic police.

Please note that the methods listed above are only suitable for paying for vehicle registration by an individual.

How to pay a fee to a legal entity

When registering a car with the traffic police, a legal entity pays the state duty only by bank transfer. If one of the employees makes the payment on their own, the State Traffic Inspectorate will not accept the check.

The accountant fills out the payment order, indicates the bank details of the registering department and makes the payment. When registering a car, a payment order with a note from the bank about the execution of the payment is attached to the general package of documents.

Important: The state duty is valid for 12 months after payment; you must register the car within this period in order not to pay again.

Where to get details for paying state duty

There are situations when you need to fill out the receipt form yourself.

To fill out a receipt for payment of the state duty for registering a car, it is important to correctly indicate the details. If you make a mistake, the money will go to the wrong address and the traffic police department will refuse registration. It is possible to make a refund, but this is time, so it is better to immediately indicate the correct data in the form.

Registration departments have various bank details, and one way to obtain settlement data is to call the department or come and apply in person.

If the name of the traffic police department is known, you can get the details on the traffic police website.

1. Select a region and go to the CONTACTS section.

2. Check the box for the type of institutions that register vehicles, click SHOW and select the desired department from the list below.

3. Click on the desired type of service.

4. The page will open the work schedule of the State Traffic Inspectorate office and details for filling out a receipt for the state duty.

Conclusion: before registering, determine what services will be required from the traffic police, calculate the total amount of the fee, select the appropriate payment method, receive a check with a bank mark and, with a package of documents, go to the department for registration.

How to pay the state fee for registering a car online

Many citizens still remember the difficulties they previously experienced when registering a car. Queues at the traffic police, searching for a bank to pay the receipt and again a long wait. Today, you can pay the state fee for registering a car remotely, without leaving your home or office. All popular payment methods are in our article.

How is the cost of vehicle registration determined?

Before choosing a payment method, you need to understand what determines the total amount of the registration fee. The main cost depends on what registration actions are carried out with the car and what documents are drawn up:

  1. Issuance of a new vehicle certificate. When the owner changes, the plastic STS must be replaced. The cost of the service is 500 rubles.
  2. Replacement of vehicle passport. Usually the new owner of the car is included in the PTS; this service costs only 350 rubles. But if the car is often resold, there may not be any free space left in the document. Registration of a new PTS will cost 800 rubles.
  3. Replacement of state numbers. This need is determined based on the wishes of the previous owner (he keeps the numbers for himself) and/or an objective assessment of the state of the license plates by a traffic police officer (bent, scratched, unreadable numbers). In case of replacement of state signs, the cost of the fee is 2000 rubles.

Thus, the final cost of registering a vehicle is calculated individually and depends on specific circumstances.

Advantages of remote payment

Why are more and more Russians choosing remote payment services to pay for various government services? This is explained simply:

  • saving time - if you have a mobile device and access to the Internet, you can pay a receipt in just a couple of clicks, without leaving the traffic police department;
  • significant benefit - some services allow you to pay state fees at a discount or receive other preferences for using non-cash payments (cashback, bonus points, etc.);
  • security – each transaction is protected by a special security system, as well as confirmation of transactions with one-time codes sent via SMS messages;
  • convenience - when paying a receipt via the Internet, a citizen has the opportunity to concentrate as much as possible, carefully check all the entered data, without being distracted by strangers.

Healthy! After online payment, you should always save receipts in a specific directory on your mobile device or computer. This will help you quickly access them if you need to print and provide a check to a traffic police officer or another government department.
