How to properly write an advertisement for the sale of a car

How to describe a car in a sales ad

When planning to sell a car ourselves, we understand that the product needs to be presented in a favorable light. If you have no experience in sales and advertising, you should look for a good example of a description of a car for sale. You can take the one you like as a sample. A well-written ad is already half the battle. After all, the first impression of a potential buyer depends on how it is written.

How to sell a car yourself

You can sell your own car yourself or through intermediaries. This is a common product that can be offered to both legal entities and individuals. There are several implementation options:

  • by acquaintance;
  • at a car market;
  • to banks, insurance companies, dealers, through auctions, by Trade-in and so on;
  • via the Internet by placing an advertisement for sale on specialized resources.

In any case, the product must be shown face to face. Before selling, it is worth conducting pre-sale preparations and properly evaluating the car. Then find a buyer, agree on a price and draw up a contract. On paper everything looks simple, but in practice the process does not go so smoothly - there are many risks and questions.

When you can’t do without a description when selling

The buyer's acquaintance with the product offered for sale begins with reading the advertisement. If your friends or the market don’t need it, then you can’t do without it when selling remotely. We are talking about selling through:

Ideally, you should use all advertising opportunities. You can also advertise through your local television and/or radio channel.

Through print media

The service of placing an advertisement in a newspaper or magazine is usually paid. If there are free options, there is a time limit on the pages. The cost of an ad is determined by the number of characters. In other words, the specificity of the description is as follows: brevity with maximum information content, or the quintessence of a description of qualities and advantages combined with simplicity of formulation.

There should be as many advertisements as possible to reach the maximum part of the readership. Despite the fact that we have begun to read less in recent years, older generation car enthusiasts have not yet forgotten how to do this.

Through the Internet

The Internet provides convenient tools for selling goods. In addition, the whole of Russia will be able to see and appreciate your car. Bulletin boards and car sales sites treat sellers more humanely. There are a lot of resources, and self-promotion is free almost everywhere. In this case, there is no need to save on words and emotions.

How to write an ad correctly

Our ad is nothing more than advertising text (and advertising is the engine of trade, and so on). The more professional he is, the greater the chances of a successful sale. This is the business card of the car, by which the buyer will evaluate whether he should spend his precious time on your offer. And if the ad attracts attention, half the battle is done.

Is a correctly written description important for selling?

It is clear that few of us are taught how to promote a product according to all the rules. But it’s good if the presentation in the ad looks at least a little like advertising. The text must solve two problems:

Without this, you won’t be able to sell your car quickly, and most importantly, profitably. Success is directly related to the content and how the ad is presented. The selection of photographs and the correct choice of price play far from a secondary role.

Take a sociological survey!

What to pay attention to

The description should be honest and accurate, but not too long and especially abstruse. The goal is to generate interest. On the Internet you can find standard forms that allow you to “blind” something similar. But this option is for those who are in a hurry. For us, a non-standard approach and correct formulation are valuable. The ad structure should include two parts:

  • Text (actually, description).
  • A set of photographs.

It is enough for the text to reveal all the features of the product as fully and truthfully as possible. And not only positive ones. We propose the following ad structure:

  1. Basic information: make and model, year of manufacture, mileage, color, engine size and power, gearbox type, condition (ideal, good, satisfactory, repair required - in fact).
  2. Equipment. All capabilities of the machine and its standard systems should be advertised. The list should be in the documentation for the car from the showroom. You can take it from the website where the model is advertised and combine the information into blocks (“Safety”, “Comfort”, “Navigation” and so on).
  3. Additional equipment. It is necessary to describe all options, factory and installed by the owners. The presence of an alarm system, a recorder, a rear view camera, multimedia, winter tires, floor mats, and so on will increase the chances of success.
  4. General information. Share with the reader where the car was purchased, how many owners it had, how, at what time of year and where it was operated, maintained and stored, and whether it failed.
  5. Cost and seller’s contacts (phone number, email, messenger, convenient time for contact and name). It's better to have a separate phone number.

The ad text should display everything that might interest a potential buyer. You can indicate the consumption, of course, the real one. It is worth honestly showing defects that cannot be hidden. Write a true story about how you love and care for your car and why, unfortunately, you decided to part with it.

The presence of a service book, information about recently performed maintenance, replaced parts and units (especially branded ones) will form in the buyer a respectful attitude towards the seller and the car. Don't be shy about the possibility of bargaining. Just do it beautifully - so that the reader does not think badly of the car and starts bargaining prematurely. For example, “bargaining near the hood” or “during inspection.”

It is important to note your readiness to undergo any test.

Make sure you speak correctly and do not use slang. The buyer should feel on an equal footing with you and be sure that they are purchasing a unique product.

How to photograph a car

You need to try to photograph the car beautifully. As they say, you meet someone by their clothes. You don’t need too many photographs – two dozen is enough. But they must be of high quality and from all angles.

Problem areas must be photographed.

Don't try to disguise something with a crooked angle. This will save time – both yours and the buyer’s. Photographs should only be taken during daylight hours. The car must be “shod” for the season, otherwise questions will arise.

Now about how to properly photograph a car for sale. We recommend:

  1. Wash and polish your subject.
  2. Remove everything unnecessary from the interior and trunk and restore order there.
  3. Choose a background - a beautiful landscape, a house, a street or a supermarket.
  4. Take a few shots:
    • from the front, full face, from each front corner, including the side;
    • from the rear, including with the trunk open (don’t forget a photo of the insides);
    • in profile on each side;
    • interior from the rear seat, steering wheel, gear knob;
    • instrument panel with odometer and multimedia center capture;
    • engine compartment;
    • wheels (demonstrate the condition of the wheels and tires).

Registration plates should not be covered. This is usually what resellers do or when the car is damaged.

Examples of correct ads

Of course, we won’t write an advertisement for you, but we will present a good example of text:

  1. Honda Accord VIII for sale. Color white, year of manufacture 2013, mileage 50,000 km, 2.4 engine (power 201 hp), automatic transmission (hydraulic converter), perfect condition (smell of a new car in the cabin, the car was not involved in an accident).
  2. Equipment: Types, full power accessories, dual-zone climate control, rain/light sensors with auto mode, VSA stabilization system, combined seat trim (leather/Alcantara), aluminum pedals.
  3. Additionally, Michelin X-Ice North winter tires and branded alloy wheels 224/45 R18 were purchased. A StarLine satellite alarm system with glass closer and a FineVu CR-2000S video recorder (South Korea) were installed. They work just great!
  4. The first and only owner since the date of purchase from Aoyama Motors. My wife drove to work and back, and in winter the car was parked in the garage. Maintenance only from an official dealer and on time, no savings were made on consumables. Service book with marks available.
  5. Price 800 thousand rubles, negotiable upon inspection. Phone 8 915-xxx-xx-xx.

For a newspaper you can simplify:

“I am selling a Honda Accord 2.4 AT Types VIII, 2011, white. Mileage 50,000 km. Perfect condition. The set is complete. The car was purchased and serviced from an official dealer, there is a service book. In addition - a set of Michelin 224/45 R18 winter tires. Price 800,000 rubles, bargaining is appropriate. Phone 8 915-xxx-xx-xx.”

In principle, the second ad is not so tempting because it is shorter. But it still attracts attention with its frankness.

How important is the correct assessment of a car?

The purpose of the sale is always to obtain financial gain. But there are a lot of cars on the market, and it’s difficult to compete with other offers. Inflating the cost will lead to a long sale or even put it in question. And too low a price will scare off a distrustful buyer. Optimal is the average on the market or slightly lower.

What do they do in supermarkets? The price tags indicate a ruble less than that of competitors, but visually the buyer perceives the price as more attractive. For example, instead of 800 thousand, you could indicate 799 thousand rubles.

Conclusion

We've covered everything you need to write an ad correctly. Just keep in mind that this is not a dogma; there is no need to copy our examples onto tracing paper. Just use your imagination based on what you read - and everything will work out.

Drawing up an advertisement for the sale of a car

Good afternoon, dear reader.

This article will discuss how to correctly write an advertisement for the sale of a car . Correctly composing an ad will allow you to receive many calls from potential buyers and quickly sell your car.

Read more:  Where traffic police officers have the right to stand

Quite often you can find advertisements compiled by drivers in haste. At the same time, the following masterpieces are obtained: “I am selling Kalina, good condition, telephone.” From such an advertisement, the potential buyer receives virtually no information about the car. But the ad characterizes the seller quite eloquently. He is so lazy that he didn’t even find 10-15 minutes to write an ad. Most likely, such a person did not watch the car very carefully. I hope the idea is clear.

After reading this article, you will be able to quickly create a good ad and sell your car quickly. So let's get started.

Currently, a beautifully designed ad consists of two parts :

Each of these parts will be discussed in more detail below.

How to write a sales ad correctly?

First, let's look at an important principle that should be adhered to when writing an ad - honesty . Describe the car in such a way as not to deceive the potential buyer.

If you write a lie (for example, indicate the wrong year of manufacture of the car), then the buyer, having learned about this when inspecting the car, will most likely refuse to purchase. If he finds out about the deception after the purchase, then he will legally be able to return the car to you, receiving back the entire amount paid (this issue was discussed in the article “Responsibility of the seller for false information about the product”). So deception does not bring any benefit. Write your ad honestly and the buyer will appreciate it.

The second important principle when composing an ad is its completeness . The ad must include all information that may be of interest to the buyer. You need to do this in order to pre-screen buyers for whom your car is not suitable and not waste your time on them.

For example, you are selling a red car, but not everyone will like this color. If you don't specify the color in the ad, buyers will come, inspect the car and leave. They won't buy it. On the other hand, by indicating the color in the ad in advance, you will attract the attention of those who are looking for a car of this particular color. The same applies to other characteristics of the car.

Additional advice : use as few abbreviations as possible in your ad, because... the buyer may decipher and understand them incorrectly.

Photos of the car for the ad

To make a high-quality advertisement for the sale of a car, you must first prepare several photographs. Nowadays there is nothing complicated about this, since digital cameras are found in almost all cell phones.

Preparing for car photography:

1. Wash your car. A clean car looks much more presentable.

2. Throw out the accumulated garbage from the car, remove unnecessary items (rags, shovels, spare parts, etc.).

3. Choose a location for the photo . Of course, you shouldn’t make a special trip to a snowy forest or to the seashore for a photo for an ad. However, the background still matters. Do not park the car near garbage dumps, dirty driveways and other similar places. The easiest way is to drive to the parking lot of the nearest large supermarket, stand away from other cars and calmly take photos.

4. It is better to rent a car during the day, because... at night there will not be enough light and the car will be difficult to see in the photographs.

5. Do not cover the numbers with newspaper, cardboard or a dirty rag. Currently, all cars are sold with license plates. Hiding numbers will make the ad appear incomplete and dishonest.

6. Get out of the car and take a few shots. 3-5 photos are enough for an ad .

For example, shoot a car from the following angles:

  • From the front left corner (grabbing the left side and front).
  • From the back right corner (grabbing the back and right side).
  • Photo of the interior from the back seat.
  • Photo of the open trunk.
  • Photo of the engine compartment.

The photographs taken will not require additional processing in graphic editors. All you have to do is upload them to the site along with your ad.

Writing an advertisement for the sale of a car

Let's move on to the text part of our ad. It can be compiled in any text editor, for example, in Notepad.

1. Basic information about the car:

  • Make and model;
  • Year of manufacture (according to documents);
  • Mileage (round up to the nearest thousand);
  • Color;
  • Engine size and power;
  • Gearbox type;
  • State.

2. Vehicle equipment.

At this point you need to write the name of the configuration and additional packages, as well as decipher in detail the equipment contained in them.

3. Optional equipment.

Here you need to write additional options that you installed yourself or at your request after purchasing the car.

For example, this could be an alarm system, a video recorder, a rear view camera, a radio and speakers, a set of winter tires, floor mats, etc.

4. Vehicle information.

In this paragraph, write additional information about the car.

For example, all maintenance on time, garage storage, operation only in summer, etc.

You can also write a few words of praise about your car.

5. Car price and contact information.

In the previous article, I talked about how to determine the initial cost of a car. As for contact information, be sure to include your phone number, convenient times to call and your name. Additionally, you can specify an email address.

Note. a separate phone number for car sale advertisements , set up specifically for such purposes.

Let's see what kind of ad should come out if we stick to our plan (each paragraph is a point in the plan):

Renault Logan, year of manufacture 2011, mileage 27,000 kilometers, color blue mineral (metallic), engine 1.4 (75 hp), manual transmission, excellent condition.

Expression package + safety package + fog lights. Two front airbags, ABS, front electric windows, power steering, body-color bumpers, enlarged rear-view mirrors, immobilizer, central locking, steering wheel height adjustment, cigarette lighter, engine protection.

Additionally installed: Pandora 1870 alarm with feedback, mechanical hood lock, cabin filter, rubber mats in the cabin and trunk, Pioneer radio (USB, MP3) and Hertz speakers, rear mudguards. The car comes with a set of Cordiant winter tires on stamped wheels and rear fender liners.

All maintenance was done on time, low beam headlight bulbs were replaced once. 99 percent of operation within the city. Great car for the whole family!

Price 360,000 rubles. Phone 8 123 456 78 90, call from 10 to 20, Maxim.

Compiling such an ad will take you only 15-20 minutes. Well, those potential buyers who are suitable for your car will call it.

Let's summarize this article:

  • When writing an ad, you must adhere to two principles: honesty and completeness.
  • You must add several photos of the car to your ad.
  • It is recommended to create an ad according to the following plan: basic information, equipment, additional equipment, information about the car, cost and contact information.

Well, the next article in the series will talk about how to prepare for a meeting with a potential buyer, as well as directly about submitting an ad to different sites.

How to sell a car yourself: step-by-step instructions

If you, the reader, are on this page, then it’s time to change your car and the question arose of how to sell your car yourself. Experts say that the most effective and profitable way to sell a car yourself is to place an ad on free services. In step-by-step instructions, we have collected useful information that may be useful to you.

Checking the car for legal purity

Start by checking your car using the Autocode service. On the main page of the site, enter state. vehicle number or VIN and order a full report. The report will tell you whether there are any unpaid fines and traffic police restrictions, liens, whether everything is in order with the documents, compulsory motor liability insurance, customs history and much more. In 5 minutes and 349 rubles you can find out information from the databases of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, EAISTO, RSA, Federal Tax Service, Federal Customs Service, Federal Tax Service and others. Check before selling to see if there are any surprises you don't know about.

Technical check

If everything is in order with the documents and the car is ready to change its owner, it’s time to give the car a presentation.

Pre-sale preparation

    • The car must be clean inside and out. One of the easiest ways to make your car look more attractive is to wash and clean it. You can clean the interior of dirt and dust yourself, armed with a vacuum cleaner, special cleaning products and napkins. Or you can take the car for professional dry cleaning; the cost of this will be recouped when you sell it. British marketers conducted a study in which they found that the smell of a new car can increase the cost of a car by 10-30%! A well-polished body will also attract the attention of future owners, especially those who prioritize the external condition of the car.
    • Consumables must be replaced before selling the car, and receipts for work performed must be retained. A stack of documents confirming your care will increase your credibility as an owner and the reliability of the car in the eyes of the buyer. In addition, the future owner will not have to spend money on replacing the same consumables immediately after purchase - this is a chance to sell the car at a higher price.
    • Defects must be corrected before sale. A crisp CV joint or a chip on the hood, a non-working wiper or air conditioner - any breakdown will be a reason for the buyer to choose a repaired and prepared car.

Vehicle cost estimate

To sell a car yourself, you will have to evaluate it yourself. To do this, use our step-by-step instructions:

    • Explore similar listings: consider make and model, mileage, body type and transmission.
    • Contact an auto center or a car pawnshop under the pretext of buying a new car and handing over your car as a trade-in system or as a temporary deposit, respectively.
    • Find online services that evaluate a car using formulas.

Do not add the cost of additional equipment to the price - the buyer does not care how much money you spent on a radio or winch. All the “extras” are just a reason to attract the buyer and curb appetites when bargaining.

Selling a car

So, the car has been checked from a legal point of view, is fully operational, and its price has been set. The next point in the step-by-step instructions is tips on how to sell a car yourself.

Search for buyers

Feel free to use as many online platforms as possible for self-selling: specialized automotive services, thematic forums, blogs, social networks.

Good photos are not the last word in selling a car. Firstly, they should be taken in good lighting, preferably daylight, so forget about taking photos with shaky hands on an old smartphone in a garage with one light on. Secondly, they must be clear. Thirdly, there is no need to mask the defects of the car - neither by covering the chip with a glass of coffee, nor by using post-processing of photographs. The buyer wants to see all the cons by inspecting a clear image.

The more details the ad contains, the more confidence potential buyers have. Provide links to blogs, entries under a hashtag related to cars, where you describe your life with a car - this will be a plus.

Meeting with potential buyers

A meeting between a seller who wants to quickly sell an illiquid product and a buyer who pretends to understand all the intricacies is doomed to failure. Be honest with the potential buyer, tell the whole truth, point out the disadvantages, give him the opportunity to return to you after communicating with resellers.

Arrange to meet in daylight, or at least in a bright underground parking lot. The seller who brings the car in for inspection under the cover of darkness is suspicious – he’s clearly hiding something. Imagine yourself in the buyer’s shoes – it’s unlikely that you yourself would want to buy a car in the dark.

Be prepared to meet with a reseller who will definitely try to reduce the cost of the car. Fraudsters demand that you sign a purchase and sale agreement by proxy or offer to buy the car right away, but at a third lower than the stated price. It's not scary to give your car to resellers, but be careful when concluding a deal with them.

Paperwork

When a buyer has been found, it’s time to start processing the purchase and sale of the car.

We draw up an agreement

The easiest way to complete a transaction is for the buyer and seller to come together to the traffic police to transfer ownership rights. At the registration authority, employees will make changes to the title and control the transfer of money.

The legislation of the Russian Federation allows a free written purchase and sale agreement. If you are able to fill out all the fields without errors (this is not difficult), use this option.

One of the most reliable ways is to register a transaction with a notary. In this case, a professional will check that the documents are filled out correctly.

How to find out if the buyer re-registered the car after the sale? By law, the new owner has 10 days to re-register documents. If you do not want to pay fines for the new owner of your car and continue to pay tax on the car sold, do not forget to check whether the new owner has re-registered the car in his name.

Go to the MREO on the 11th day after the sale, specified in the contract. Take your passport and purchase and sale agreement. If after checking the car is still registered to you, ask the employee to stop registering the car.

Another way is to request an inspection online on the State Traffic Inspectorate website. It will show the entire history of registration with the traffic police; if you are still the last owner, go to the MREO to terminate the registration of the car.

We hope our step-by-step instructions will help you quickly sell your car yourself.

How to properly write an advertisement for the sale of a car

Two different advertisements for two identical cars can cause diametrically opposed opinions about the subject of purchase and sale. It happens that a car with “no” photos and “no” description turns out to be many times better than its correctly photographed, washed to a shine, sweetly described competitor. But in the end they will buy just the second one. How can you create an advertisement so that there is no end to those who want to buy your car?

An advertisement for the sale of a car is a potential buyer’s first impression of your car and of you as its owner. It is this first impression that can be decisive and indelible. The main thing is not to miss the unique opportunity to amaze the future buyer at first sight!

Stage one, “attracting”

They greet you, as they say, by their clothes. Clothes, in this case, will be a photo of your car. Beautiful, bright, high-quality photographs of a car brought into divine shape (preferably from an “advantageous” angle against a decent background) have the same effect on car seekers as valerian on cats. They will “rub” against your photographs again and again, becoming more and more imbued with a car they have not yet even experienced “live.”

So: the car must be clean and dry. Picking up a car fresh from the car wash with streaks of water running down it is a bad idea.

In the cabin – no recorders, navigators, icons, cigarettes, photographer’s knees in the frame, and so on. The rugs are also clean! If they are old and do not fit the car (universal), remove them completely. Just leave the upholstery – it’s almost the same in the photo. Theoretically, a child seat works as a plus - you can leave it, as it complements your image of a careful driver.

The background affects it to a lesser extent, but it is advisable not to shoot in some vacant lot near the cemetery - a parking lot or gas station is better. The main thing is that the car can be walked around from all sides and completely placed in the frame. Garbage in the form of bottles and bulls is not welcome in the frame. If you are lucky with the weather and there is a blue sky and nature, this will only be a plus.

For a decent photo shoot, you don’t need to hire a professional photographer with a suitcase of different lenses and spend hours working in Photoshop. It’s enough just to wipe your phone’s camera with something clean (fortunately, almost all phones now have quite good cameras) and, walking around the car on all sides, find the best options to show off the product. This should be done during the day (do not shoot against the sun!) or in good artificial lighting.

If the sun shines not on the car, but on your lens, the photo will not turn out good. The luminary should be behind the photographer's back. Don’t be lazy to move the car with the other side facing the sun. Photos taken on a moonless night behind garages under the light of lanterns located in the nearest populated area, as a rule, are not considered for more than three seconds, and the ad itself is closed with the words “this is something incomprehensible, let’s see what else is there.”

Stage two, text

Used car sales managers usually limit themselves to listing options and offering loans. This method has a right to exist, but it is not catchy. It is much more pleasant when the seller describes his life situation with light humor and indicates a forced reason for the sale (wedding, debts, lost his rights). You begin to feel sympathy for this in absentia.

It’s not worth listing in the ad how much you changed in the car, that 3000 km ago you overhauled the engine and installed a new automatic transmission. This immediately raises the question of the general fatigue of the car and the quality of the repairs performed. If the client is interested in this, tell him at the meeting. And it’s better to sell not the car itself during the call, but a personal meeting. If a person arrives, he has already bought half of it. And very often the buyer doesn’t see the problems that you know about, but he finds new ones! So you can end the conversation with the words: “Come and see, the car is worth the money.”

In the description, you can indicate the brand of engine oil you used, the name of the station where it was serviced, and the condition of the car in your opinion. It is better not to use the word “excellent”. Unless, of course, the car's mileage is 1000 km... In the ad, indicate the female owner and her phone number, if possible. Subconsciously, we expect fewer tricks from a female salesperson.

Stage three, assessment

When setting a price, keep in mind that too low and too high are equally deterrent. The prices that many sellers list in their advertisements have nothing to do with the actual market situation, but rather reflect greed and hope. And then everything grows like a snowball. When you sell your car, you look at how much others want for a similar one, set the price at the same level and wonder why no one calls.

And all because you need to start not from the appetites of your fellow car enthusiasts, but from the real cost of your car in relation to the same new one. Or its mileage and age. An approximate scheme of losses looks like this: a new car, leaving the showroom, immediately loses 15-20% of its price, despite the fact that it is still new.

Each subsequent year – at least another 10% of each discount. Example. Volkswagen Polo Sedan, purchased in 2011 for 520,000 rubles, in the same 2011 already began to cost 520,000 - 15%, that is, 442,000. Further, subtracting 10% annually, we get, taking into account inflation, the current cost of a “four-year car” with the average with a mileage of about 70-80 thousand kilometers - 319,000 rubles. That’s how much your Polo costs, even if it’s not broken or painted, but just lived for 4 years. So don't be greedy!

What's the result?

Be confident. Talk to the buyer calmly and slowly. It is advisable that no one disturbs you; if anything happens, call the buyer back later, when the children nearby are not crying and the neighbors are not hammering into the wall. And know: there is always a buyer for any product. The question is how long will you look for each other. Now, hopefully, faster.

How to create a good car advert

For 15 years, av.by has been helping to sell and buy cars. During this time, hundreds of thousands of cars were sold through our website. Based on many years of experience working with classified ads, we have compiled this list of recommendations on how to sell your car faster and more profitably, simply by listing your listing correctly.

Fill in all ad parameters correctly

It is extremely important to ensure that all required fields in your ad are correct. Our visitors very actively use selection filters that operate on these parameters. If, due to haste or inattention, you incorrectly indicate one of the characteristics of the car, your ad will simply not be found. Pay special attention to such parameters as body type, engine size, fuel type and gearbox type. It is under these conditions that people most often look for a car.

Therefore, before publishing an ad, check whether you have specified all the parameters in it correctly.

Write good text for your ad

Ad text and photographs are the only source of information about your car at the first stage. Based on the ad text, the potential buyer decides whether to trust you or not. Therefore, try to write an honest and complete description of your vehicle. Imagine that you are now viewing an ad as a buyer. What would interest you first? Try to formulate your questions to the seller of this equipment and then, as a seller, try to answer them honestly.

Don't know what to write? No problem, we have compiled for you a small list of the most popular questions about the car for sale:

  • Who is the real owner of the car?
  • Where and when was it purchased?
  • How many owners has the car had?
  • Does the car have any damage known to you? If yes, then it’s better to write about them right away. Believe me, it’s not so scary to immediately say that you have a painted wing than to lose a potential buyer when showing the car, who identified this feature and doubted your integrity.
  • Are there any problems with the operation of any vehicle systems?
  • Was there any repairs, when and what was changed?
  • How and where was the car serviced, and are there supporting documents?
  • Does it have any additional equipment installed?
  • What tires are on the car and in what condition, and is an additional set included?
  • What is the average fuel consumption under different driving modes?
  • When was the last time scheduled maintenance was performed and what changed?
  • Describe your experience using this model. Its advantages and perhaps its disadvantages. Buyers are very interested in reading about this.
  • Do you need to carry out any repair work on your car in the near future?

And one last piece of advice: read other people’s ads and imagine yourself as a buyer. Which ad writer do you trust more?

Take good photos

A good ad should have a lot of photos, they should be of high quality and they should be photos of your car.

We carefully review all advertisements and do not publish those in which there are other people's watermarks in the photo, advertising or photographs that clearly do not belong to the author of the advertisement.

There are never too many photos

On av.by, you can add up to 30 photos to an advertisement for the sale of vehicles. What is there to photograph there, you ask. Let's count together.

Mandatory photos, you can’t do without them:

  • right view,
  • left view,
  • front view,
  • back view,
  • general view of the engine compartment,
  • general view of the luggage compartment, if any.
  • instrument panel with the engine running,
  • general view of the driver's seat,
  • general view of the front passenger seat,
  • general view of the rear seats.

Not required, but highly recommended:

  • If the salon assumes the possibility of transformations, then showing options for these transformations in photographs will not be superfluous.
  • Storage boxes, glove compartments, and niches are also worth photographing.
  • If any additional equipment is installed, it must be shown in the photo.
  • If there is minor damage to the car, it is good practice to photograph them and warn the buyer in advance. This applies to both the exterior and the interior.
  • It is also worth focusing on the features of this particular machine. For example, in some places there is a very interesting control system for the on-board computer or navigation, and in others there are original chrome wheels or the perfect condition of the leather in the cabin. Just show off your product in all its glory.

How to properly photograph a car for sale?

First of all, wash your car and tidy up the interior if it is not cleaned. Remove all “decorations” and manifestations of your individuality from the salon, be it a St. George’s ribbon or the “Sex is Our Job” fragrance. If you are determined to sell your car, then you should also get rid of extraneous stickers on the car.

Do not try to photograph a car in low light in the evening on the street or somewhere in a dark parking lot. Apart from the fact that the car has headlights and they work, a potential buyer will not learn anything from these photos.

If you are photographing in sunny weather, wait until the sun goes behind a cloud. With diffused light, there will be less unpleasant glare on the car.

When photographing in winter, it is not advisable to take photographs against the backdrop of roadsides, parking lots and other places with dirty snow. It's better to find a neat, clean place somewhere in nature or with a good background.

If possible, try not to include other cars in the frame. Taking photos of your car in a crowded parking lot is not a good idea.

There is no need to look for semi-professional equipment for filming; photos from a more or less modern phone are enough. Ask your friends to take pictures if you can’t do it yourself.

Do not take vertical “full-length” photographs: apart from irritation when viewing, they will not cause anything.

And the most important thing. Choose the best photo of your car and use it as the title photo of your ad. After all, users will see it first!

Update the photos in your ad periodically

If no one buys a car for a long time, take another series of photos in a different place and in a different environment. This should be done so that buyers who have already seen your ad will pay attention to it again. Almost certainly, someone is already considering your car as an option for purchase, but for some reason does not come to look at it. Help him decide to buy - remind him about your car. This should work!

Make a short video with an overview of your car

Of course, you don't have to make a video for your announcement. But if you have a camera phone and some time, shooting video can greatly help you make a sale. Shooting a short video of a couple of minutes does not require any special knowledge or skills, because its main goal is to answer those questions that cannot be answered with text and photographs alone.

What not to remove:

  • It’s probably not worth walking around cars silently with a camera in your hands. Such a video will not convey any important or interesting information to your potential buyer.
  • Just like silent driving.
  • There's no point in making a video with absolutely great music to show how effectively your car drives from one end of the parking lot to the other, or how quickly it can drive through a beautiful stretch of road.

What to shoot:

  • Film how the car starts and how the engine operates. This can be done on a warmed up or unheated engine.
  • Interior design and demonstration of the functionality of all electrical systems. Show that everything works properly and is in good condition.
  • Show defects, if any. By disclosing a few scratches right away, you will build trust with the buyer.
  • Try not to be silent while taking pictures of the car. You definitely have something to tell about him. Tell us how long you've owned it, what you like about it and what you don't like. It’s okay if all this is already in the ad text.
  • Don't make the video too short or, conversely, long. A duration of 3-5 minutes would be ideal.
  • If you have a fairly rare car, then remove literally everything: how the seats fold, how the trunk opens, the gas tank hatch, glove compartments, boxes, etc. Right down to how the mirrors fold and whether there is a cigarette lighter in the trunk. This will be a very useful video for the buyer.

Remember that the meaning of the video is more important than its beauty and your video is not for the “TOP 10 car videos of the world” competition. It is designed to answer the buyer’s only question: is it worth buying your car or not?

What price should I include in the ad?

Your car is worth exactly what you are willing to pay for it.

If there are many sellers in the car market, but few buyers, the price will decrease. If there are many buyers, but few sellers, the price will rise. This principle regulates the price of any product.

Of course, you want to sell your car quickly and dearly. Some people may succeed, but rarely and with great luck. Therefore, you should not hope that you will be able to sell your car at exorbitant prices. But it’s worth trying to at least not sell it cheaper than they can buy it.

How to find out how much your car is worth now?

The most important advice is to keep an eye on your competitors.

As in any market, each offer has its competitors. Together with you, a huge number of people can sell the same car of the same year. And together with you they will fight for customers’ wallets. You and your car need to win this fight.

On your ad page, along with your statistics, we show a list of your main competitors (if any).

Competitive ads are ads for cars that are the same make and model as yours, the same age, plus a year older or younger. Price also matters: offers that are more than 15% more expensive or cheaper than yours are not included in the list of competitors.

We show them so you can see how your ad stacks up against others. With this information, you can adjust the price of your ad to make it more attractive. You'll see how competitors design their ads and who will end up selling their car first.

Our users can also see statistics on competitors’ ads for 30 days. This helps you understand how changing a particular parameter in an ad affects its popularity.

We hope you can use the information provided correctly and sell your car profitably.
