Hi all. Today an interesting question arose regarding towing - do the drivers of the towed car need insurance and a license? I Googled, asked my friends - everyone had different information. According to traffic rules, again, the information is twofold. I would like to hear your opinion. Thank you.

Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated August 25, 2006 No. 530 “On insurance activities.”

CHAPTER 13
PROCEDURE AND CONDITIONS FOR COMPULSORY CIVIL LIABILITY INSURANCE OF VEHICLE OWNERS
148. This chapter defines the procedure and conditions for compulsory civil liability insurance for vehicle owners for damage caused to legal entities and individuals when using these vehicles in road traffic on the territory of the Republic of Belarus and on the territory of the member states of the Green Card system, with whose authorized organizations the Belarusian Bureau of Transport Insurance (hereinafter in this chapter - the Belarusian Bureau) has concluded an agreement on such insurance.

Whether you push or pull, there must be insurance.
There is no insurance, but it is necessary to deliver the vehicle to another location - by fully loading it onto a tow truck. He himself answered the second question (about the driver): a driver is an individual driving a vehicle, with the exception of a person trained to drive a power-driven vehicle (passing a qualifying practical exam for the right to drive a power-driven vehicle).
A person who teaches how to drive a power-driven vehicle (takes a qualifying practical exam for the right to drive a power-driven vehicle) and is at the same time in it is considered to be a driver. Please note that nothing is said about the presence of an engine in the vehicle.

Before driving, both vehicles must turn on the hazard lights, and the driver must additionally turn on the low beam headlights. It should be taken into account that it will be more difficult to brake if the engine of the towed vehicle is turned off. To ease the force of jerking during acceleration, the cable should be secured at a slight angle.

For all-wheel drive vehicles, towing is generally extremely undesirable. They are towed with the front or rear wheels raised, and in order to avoid very serious problems with the car, it is best to use the services of a tow truck.

And one more important detail, you should always be familiar with the section on towing in the vehicle’s operating instructions. It happens that on-board computers of cars do not always tolerate towing with the gear engaged.

Unfortunately, not all rules are taken into account in paragraph 20 of the traffic rules, therefore, in order to have a complete picture of the rules for towing, it is necessary to refer to other paragraphs.
The size of the penalty will depend on the size of the violation. There is no liability for violating the speed limit by 20 km/h. For exceeding the speed limit by less than 40 km/h, an administrative fine of 500 rubles is provided. For exceeding the established speed limit by 40 to 60 km/h, the maximum fine is 1,500 rubles.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. For 12 years and counting, Parents magazine's editors have used their family life experiences to compile the final list of the "10 Best Family Cars of 2019." This year, the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, with its extensive safety and driver assistance features, was named in the "Best Vehicles" category...

This leaves drivers exposed if a claim is made and could be fined up to £5,000. If there is a need to travel a greater distance, then every 30 km you need to stop for 20-40 minutes (depending on weather conditions) to allow the car to cool down and prevent overheating.

How to avoid a fine for towing without insurance (OSAGO) on a flexible hitch

As we have already mentioned, insurance is necessary even if the car has been “lay up” for a long time, that is, it has not actually been driven. If the decision was made to take the car to a workshop, scrap it, or sell it, then insurance will be required.

Despite the fact that it is contraindicated for cars with automatic transmission to slip, but almost anything can be towed, it is not advisable to do this even in case of urgent need. In this case, initially you need to familiarize yourself in detail with the car manual (instructions), which contains clear instructions: it is not possible, why it is not possible, it is possible and, if possible, then under what conditions.

If you ignore vehicle towing regulations, you may receive an administrative fine or warning.

I constantly wash dishes with my hands; it is impossible to do this with gloves. I didn't feel any particular harm. After all, most detergents consist of the same soap base with surfactants (surfactants), flavors and fragrances.

Fine for towing a car without insurance (OSAGO) (Article 12.37 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation)

In addition, clause 16.1 prohibits those vehicles that cannot reach a speed of more than 40 km/h from driving on the highway. That is, if the car is damaged during towing and does not allow you to drive faster than the established minimum value, you will have to pay a fine.

Towing is carried out with a special rigidly fixed coupling device, and its design can be in the form of a simple metal pipe or beam with eyes, or in the form of complex devices that allow the towed vehicle to move along the path of the tow. The maximum speed at which a vehicle can be towed is 50 km/h - this applies to both populated areas and the highway.

The vast majority of driving schools do not teach future drivers how to tow a car. In the meantime, towing a car is an essential skill that any driver can benefit from.

If the reason for towing is not related to engine damage or it is possible to start the engine, then all of the above conditions may not be met.

Be sure to read the vehicle's instructions to see if such a vehicle can be towed. Some cars with automatic transmissions cannot be towed in principle, but the rest can be towed, but with some reservations. They may relate to driving speed, travel length, and choice of automatic transmission mode.

Every driver, one way or another, has encountered the towing of a vehicle, when one of the motorists needs the help of another due to certain reasons. In your car, in addition to a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, a spare wheel and a warning triangle, the presence of which is mandatory, a tow rope would also be useful. To tow a car, the driver needs to know the general rules for towing a vehicle.

Be sure to read the vehicle's instructions to see if such a vehicle can be towed. Some cars with automatic transmissions cannot be towed in principle, but the rest can be towed, but with some reservations. They may relate to driving speed, travel length, and choice of automatic transmission mode.

Then the warning triangle is fixed on the rear bumper of the towed car. If you are towing a car at night, then the side lights on the towed car must be turned on.

In a driving school, this topic is touched upon superficially, but this knowledge is necessary and sooner or later it can come in handy.

However, this can rise to up to £5,000 and up to nine penalty points depending on the severity of the offence.

If you do not have documents with you confirming the legality of using the “disabled person” information plate, then the driver will have to pay a fine of 5,000 rubles.

If you drive with a pet in your car, you could get a hefty fine and even lose your car insurance. According to Rule 57 of the Highway Code, “When in a vehicle, ensure that dogs or other animals are properly restrained so that they do not distract you while driving or injure you or themselves if you stop quickly.”

Although a car is a means of transportation, for transporting passengers and cargo, it cannot always cope with its direct responsibilities. After all, like any thing, it can break, which means the driver will not be able to start it and drive away. You can list a great many possible breakdowns in which the vehicle cannot move independently; we will not list them.

Why her? Yes, because this towing method will require a driver at the steering wheel. After all, the car may move to the side or its wheels may involuntarily turn in the wrong direction. Based on traffic rules, the driver is the person driving the vehicle, which is essentially what happens here, despite the fact that the car is moving with the help of a towing vehicle, which also has its own driver.

There are features of automatic towing that you need to know:

  • The automatic transmission position is always “N”
  • The longest distance to tow a car is no more than 150 km.
  • The maximum vehicle speed when towing is no more than 70 km/h.

It is indeed extremely undesirable to tow a car with an automatic transmission; it would be much safer to call a tow truck. Why risk the box? I do not advise anyone to tow a car with an automatic transmission.

If there is a less experienced driver in the tow than in the towed car, then it makes sense for such drivers to change if possible - so that the more experienced driver pulls the less experienced one, because driving a tug is more difficult. Be sure to agree on the route in detail.

Attach the cable to the towed vehicle as recommended above. You need to tie a bright fabric to the cable every meter so that it is visible. Start the engine and use the heater to warm up the interior until the windows thaw. If the engine does not start, clean the windows manually to have sufficient visibility in all directions and open the window slightly so that the windows do not “sweat” from the inside.

Such requirements for the length of the towing clutch are absolutely justified. A clutch that is too long (either flexible or rigid) makes turning maneuvers difficult, and the towed vehicle can go off the road, cutting off the turning path.

Otherwise, when the drive, parking or any other gear is engaged, the wheels may jam and the car cannot be towed.

Before towing begins, the drivers of both vehicles need to agree on the order of signaling to each other, in particular for making turns and stopping the vehicles.

Can you tow a car with an automatic transmission?

Today we will talk about towing a car with automatic transmission. So is it possible to tow automatically? The answer is possible, the main thing is to know how.

Under load, the cable stretches slightly, thereby reducing the chance of damage to the body during transportation. Each car has places for hooking the cable in the front and rear; they are installed immediately from the factory.

I’ll give you some advice from myself: engage in active sports. Be it fitness, Zumba or gym. And try to reduce your consumption of flour - this is the main source of carbohydrates that we hate.

A common method of transporting a car. Towing a car in winter using this method is done using a strong cable that has special grips (carbines) at the ends. Towing cables come in the following types:

  • Fabric rope;
  • Steel rope;
  • Polypropylene cable.

Also, the hook should have a spring-loaded pawl so that it does not jump out of the fastening when the cable is pulled. A bad sign is the presence of burrs and traces of rough processing.

The cable packaging must indicate the maximum permissible load. To tow a small car, it is enough for the cable to withstand a load of 1500 kg, since it is better to break the cable than to tear off the bumper.

It is mainly used for trucks. Using a crane, the front part of the towed vehicle is placed into the towing vehicle and secured there.

In fact, this is where the play on words begins: whether the driver did not have insurance when driving or when towing is not important. In fact, the driver simply does not have compulsory insurance - MTPL, and this is a violation! This means that administrative penalties for towing without insurance will be applied as if the driver simply did not have insurance on a serviceable vehicle.

But in March 1933, the country was led by Theodore Roosevelt, who gradually managed to turn depression into recovery. In his work he used the “strong hand” policy, the essence of which was fundamental intervention and government regulation of processes.

However, it requires drivers to be extremely careful, attentive and strictly follow the rules, especially if the car is towed in winter.
Next, you need to turn on the car's ignition to activate the brake lights, sound signals and, of course, to remove the lock from the steering wheel. The manual transmission must be set to the neutral position, the automatic transmission to the “N” position (neutral speed). Be sure to turn on the hazard lights on both cars.
