Rules for drawing up job descriptions
The job description does not imply strict design rules. Its compilers are guided by the specifics of a particular enterprise and develop the points independently. Therefore, instructions for employees who occupy the same position in different companies may vary. The reason is that organizations have different requirements for applicants based on their profile.
The following officials are responsible for creating job descriptions:
- HR department specialist;
- HR specialist;
- HR department employee.
The job description is printed in one copy and provided to the employee. If there are several auto mechanics in production, then each of them is issued this document. The instruction becomes legally binding when three signatures are placed on it:
- from the employee for whom the document was drawn up;
- from the employee responsible for familiarizing the colleague with the instructions;
- from the general director of the enterprise.
Job description structure
The lack of a uniform template led to the development of informal rules for drawing up instructions. They involve dividing the document into five sections:
- General provisions;
- Job responsibilities;
- Rights;
- Responsibility;
- Working conditions.
The authors of the instructions have the right to change points and give the document a different structure. But most employees are guided by the above plan due to its brevity and simplicity.
Information about management
Information about the director of the enterprise is placed in the upper right corner of the job description. The compiler provides the following information:
- Full name of the boss;
- position held;
- Business name;
- signature with transcript.
General provisions
General provisions describe the formal aspects of the position of a motor vehicle mechanic:
- designation of the category to which the position belongs;
- an indication of the order on the basis of which the employee was hired;
- subordination issues: to whom does the auto mechanic report and who is subordinate to him;
- employee qualification requirements (education, additional courses, work experience, etc.);
- regulations and legal acts that a vehicle mechanic must be aware of;
- the amount of knowledge that must be acquired by an employee at the time of taking office.
Reference! Regardless of the position, the list of documents indicates fire safety and labor protection rules.
Job responsibilities
The section on job responsibilities is central. The quality of its development determines the coherence of the work of employees in production. The purpose of this chapter is to provide the employee with comprehensive information about the tasks ahead. The functions of a car mechanic consist of the following general points:
- ability to use equipment and check its serviceability;
- maintaining working tools in acceptable condition;
- organization of repair work;
- preventing device malfunctions;
- introduction of new technologies into production;
- carrying out repair work within the established time frame.
Important! If auto mechanics at an enterprise are responsible for different areas of repair, this item must be included in the job description.
Rights include a list of actions that a motor vehicle mechanic takes to improve working conditions. This section includes the following options:
- taking initiative to optimize the production process;
- requirement from management to provide the necessary equipment;
- involvement in the work of other departments of the organization within their competence;
- obtaining from management documents and other information necessary to perform professional duties.
The rules are written to outline the range of opportunities that an employee has the right to afford. If he abuses his powers, he will be subject to disciplinary liability.
Responsibility
Responsibility refers to the consequences that will befall a car mechanic for certain actions. These actions are detrimental to the organization, the staff, or the mechanic himself. The category of misconduct includes the following actions:
- disobedience to superiors;
- malicious violation of the conditions specified in the employment contract;
- allowing equipment for which the employee is responsible to malfunction;
- negligent attitude towards fulfilling duties and ignoring designated deadlines;
- incorrect performance of official duties;
- causing material damage to the organization.
All these offenses lead to punishment. The form of punishment can be different - from a reprimand to dismissal from work and legal proceedings.
Reference! In the “Responsibility” section there should be a point indicating that any penalties are carried out taking into account Russian labor legislation.
Working conditions
The working conditions specify all the details that were not included in the previous chapters. In particular, the nature of work with other structural divisions is indicated. If there are business trips, travel conditions are prescribed. Material responsibility and the values to which it applies are indicated.

Motor transport mechanic: job description and responsibilities
People use automobile transport everywhere. In cities with a population of over a million, almost every family has a car, and public transport runs on different routes every 5 minutes. All these cars require regular technical inspection and repair. This is exactly what mechanics do. There are private auto repair shops that offer their services to the public, and each vehicle fleet must have its own staff of mechanics servicing the organization’s rolling stock. This article discusses the second option, presents a job description for a motor vehicle mechanic and a sample of how to fill it out, which will help applicants decide on a place of work, and organizations can correctly set out the requirements for applicants.
Features of work
Public transport is an important component of the city communications system, without which the everyday life of citizens and organizations will simply stop. People will not get to their jobs, organizations will not be able to provide consumers with products and services, and many other examples that have equally catastrophic consequences for the economy and society.
The job description of a mechanic for motor transport contains a list of duties, functions and tasks that each individual mechanic must perform so that the motor transport rolling stock is always in service and performs its job properly. Naturally, the mechanic must be at work, regardless of weather conditions and other distractions. This specialist must perform his work with special care, since the safety of the driver and passengers during its operation depends on the technical serviceability of the vehicle.
Basic provisions of the instructions
A mechanic for the production of motor vehicles belongs to the category of specialists. In the job hierarchy, he reports to the chief engineer, chief mechanic and fleet director. The search for a suitable candidate for the position and testing him is usually carried out by the chief engineer or chief mechanic. After the applicant is selected, he coordinates his candidacy with the head of the organization. The manager, in turn, accepts the candidate for the position in accordance with the requirements of personnel records management.
All other procedures relating to this employee (relocation, dismissal, bonuses and fines) are approved by the manager at the proposal of the chief engineer or chief mechanic.
In his work, the mechanic reports directly to the chief mechanic, chief engineer or other official performing the role of deputy manager for operational work. The same official evaluates the effectiveness and quality of the mechanic’s work, his qualifications as a specialist and his further role in the organization. If the deputy manager feels that the mechanic does not have enough skills, experience or qualifications, he can submit a request to the manager to replace this employee.
Tasks and functions
The job description of a motor vehicle mechanic sets before the employee a specific list of tasks and functions in the workplace for which he is responsible. They can be represented by the following list:
- monitoring the serviceability of rolling stock before entering the line;
- timely repair and replacement of worn parts;
- timely replacement of fuels and lubricants.
A vehicle production mechanic can also perform other tasks provided for by the specifics of the organization in which he works.
Responsibilities of a mechanic at the workplace
An employee has a number of responsibilities to the organization, set out in the employment contract and in the job description. Below is an approximate list of the responsibilities of a mechanic for releasing vehicles onto the line, most often mentioned in personnel documents of motor transport companies:

- informing superiors about necessary repairs and the cost of auto parts;
- compiling reports on the work done, filling out time sheets and repair work performed.
Education, knowledge and skills
Different ATPs require specialists to have different levels of education. The job description of a motor vehicle mechanic involves taking courses for auto mechanics to obtain a diploma, certificate or license with the specified rank. The main thing is knowledge of the structure of rolling stock, the ability to correctly assemble and disassemble important mechanical components, identify the cause of the malfunction and apply the correct repair methods. A motor vehicle mechanic's certificate does not guarantee that the applicant has all this knowledge, but it must be in accordance with the rules of personnel records and labor legislation.
Personal qualities of the employee
The job description of a motor vehicle mechanic does not imply the presence of any special character qualities in the employee. A mechanic does not need to be in constant contact with people, there is no need to demonstrate charisma and leadership qualities. The only thing that is really important for a mechanic is perseverance, the ability to work on small parts for a long time, and responsibility. The mechanic must clearly understand that the quality of his work determines not only the time spent by other people waiting for repair service in the event of a breakdown on the line, but also the lives of passengers in the event that an emergency occurs due to a breakdown.

- the right to a fully equipped workplace.
Employee Responsibility
Failure to fulfill the duties of a mechanic to release vehicles onto the line may result in the imposition of penalties by the organization or the executive branch of the state. An employee of this profile is responsible for a number of situations in the workplace:
- failure to fulfill one's direct official duties, improper performance;
- negligence in work resulting in accidental consequences;
- violation of labor regulations, work schedule, tardiness and absenteeism;
- damage to the property of the organization and other employees;

Thus, a senior mechanic already belongs to a leadership position; several line mechanics work under him. As a boss, he evaluates the work of his subordinates, corrects mistakes, and delegates tasks. In some situations, detected errors must not only be corrected, but also reported to the director. A senior mechanic is a specialist not only with a higher level of education and rank, but also with at least three years of experience in a previous position.
