It was 2019, and in Russia the most popular cars were still the ancient sevens, 53 lawn and groove. C-stability.

Statistics know everything, even how many times I farted today. However, they are not always true.

The only thing I would willingly believe is that the most popular buses are PAZIKS! The rest is complete nonsense. Gas-53. Yes, there are only a few of them left! And of those, 70 percent were deregistered. And the seven has not been a leader in statistics for a long time. So, gentlemen, statisticians, your information seems to be somewhat outdated :)))!

I was very surprised at the count of 53. I don’t know how it is in the provinces, but in our Moscow region this is already a rarity. Grooves remained only in factories and a few state farms. There are seeds, but Solaris, Rio and Renochki are much more popular.

I don’t know about M and MO, but, as you said, “in the provinces”, and literally in all of them, the PAZik is still the most popular bus! (although I won’t argue, in Voronezh, for example, it was noticeably replaced by used ones - local “foreigners” of a larger class and domestic “nexts”).

Region 38 February 17, 2019 reply

In the provinces it is not possible to find a GAZ 53. Unlike the capital, we do not have museums of rare vehicles. PAZs still drive, but there are not many of them, mostly GAZelles and foreign cars. VAZ 2107s are found more often, of course, but again much less often than foreign cars. Where do such statistics come from? It's clear.

site guest February 17, 2019 reply

Statistics uses data received from the traffic police, that is, about registered cars at the time of the request. In reality, there are a lot of cars that have no longer actually existed for a long time, but are still registered with someone who has often passed away long ago and vice versa, there are a lot of unregistered vehicles, and these are not only newly purchased cars, but also “oldies” that have reached their end of life. , which are used as “laborers”.

Perhaps the request to the traffic police was made in the last century. Then everything fits!

But this is unlikely! In the last century, even at its very end, there were still very few foreign cars, except perhaps imported ones, mainly from Western Europe

At the end of the last century, the entire Far East and half of Siberia were already driving used Japanese cars. This is just for your information.

Experts counted the number of cars in Russia

As of July 1, 2019, there were 52.4 million cars in Russia. The analytical agency Autostat reported this on September 18.

According to experts, the majority of cars in the country are passenger cars. There are 44.1 million units, which is 84% of the country’s total vehicle fleet.

Light commercial vehicles account for almost 8% of the fleet, or more than 4.1 million vehicles. In addition, almost 3.8 million trucks are registered in Russia, their share is more than 7%. There are also 400 thousand buses in the country - less than 1%.

On August 27, it was reported that the average age of a Russian car owner is 37 years.

The most common road accidents in Russia

Every day, 460 accidents involving casualties occur on the country’s roads. 50 people die in them.

If you look at the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and insurance companies, most road accidents occur according to the same scenarios. We studied this data and compiled a picture of a typical road accident in Russia.

How many accidents happened

The statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which are published in the public domain, include only road accidents with deaths and injuries.

According to these statistics, in 2018, there were 168 thousand road accidents with injuries in the country. Every ninth is fatal. During the year, 18 thousand people died on the country’s roads. Another 215 thousand people were injured. But the annual number of road accidents and the number of victims is gradually decreasing.

Review of road accidents for 2018, Scientific Center for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal AffairsPDF, 1.7 MB

Every tenth accident in the country was caused by drunk drivers. 4,645 people died in such accidents last year, a quarter of all road deaths.

12.5% of accidents end with one of the participants in the accident leaving the scene, 40% of them are never found. Another 1.5% of car owners abandon their car and run away on their own - but such people are almost always found.

The most dangerous region, according to statistics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is Chechnya. Here, for every thousand accidents with casualties, there are 414 fatalities. Ingushetia is in second place: 291 dead. In third place is Kabardino-Balkaria: 270. Victims most often survive in St. Petersburg: there are 36 fatalities per thousand road accidents.

It is difficult to count accidents in which only cars were damaged. According to insurer statistics, approximately a third of drivers file such accidents using the European protocol. In 2017, approximately 500 thousand drivers did without calling traffic inspectors.

If we assume that two car owners were involved in each accident, then in total there are about 750 thousand accidents without injuries every year. Of these, 250 thousand are processed under the European protocol.

In addition, statistics do not take into account situations where drivers negotiate on the spot without calling the emergency commissioner. For example, one car smashed the bumper of another, the culprit gave money to the owner of the damaged car on the spot - and everyone left almost happy. No one knows how many such accidents occur.

To whom and why do accidents happen?

The average age of a driver involved in an accident is between 30 and 40 years old. A third of all accidents occur due to the fault of such car owners. Moreover, those who have recently gotten behind the wheel drive more carefully: most often accidents happen to those who have driving experience from two to ten years.

Four out of five cars involved in accidents last year were passenger cars. According to Tinkoff Insurance, Solaris and Kia Rio suffer most often: for each brand, 27% of cars were involved in an accident. Volkswagen Polo is in second place: 25% of owners of insured cars contacted insurers. In third place are Ford Focuses: 19%. Despite the fact that the best-selling cars in Russia came off the VAZ assembly line, foreign cars are hit more often.

Nine out of ten road accidents occur because drivers violate traffic rules. Most often, they do not comply with priority signs at intersections. At the same time, a third of all violations occur due to the fact that something is wrong with the road. For example, a road sign is not visible, or it is not there at all, or the markings have been erased.

The most common type of traffic accident is a two-vehicle collision. In second place is a collision with a pedestrian. The third is when the car overturns, for example if the driver loses control on a slippery road. There are also exotic reasons: last year the traffic police registered 428 cases of collisions with animals. Although a typical road accident is banal: you didn’t let someone else’s car through at an intersection and crashed into it.

Where and when do accidents happen?

Three quarters of all road accidents last year occurred in populated areas. More than half are in regional capitals. Country roads account for only a quarter of road accidents, but the consequences are usually more severe: people get injured and die here three times more often than on city streets. The most dangerous road accidents are on high-speed federal highways: every second death in car accidents happens outside the city.

According to Tinkoff Insurance statistics, the most accident-prone region of the country is the Novosibirsk region: last year, 20% of cars insured here were involved in an accident. Second place is shared between Moscow and the Moscow region: 17% of cars were damaged. In third place is the Krasnodar Territory: 15%. The most dangerous places in the country are at the intersections of Novosibirsk.

40% of all accidents occur from July to October. Most of all - in August: last year in this month there were 17 thousand accidents with injuries. For comparison, in February it was almost two times less. The most dangerous day of the week is Saturday. The most emergency time is from five to eight o'clock in the evening. Every fifth accident occurs during this three-hour period.

Average accident

After analyzing the statistics, we painted a picture of a typical Russian road accident.

August, Saturday evening, Novosibirsk. The average 39-year-old Russian Alexander is driving around the city in his Solaris. This is not his first year behind the wheel - he has 7 years of driving experience. But, driving through the next intersection, Alexander does not notice the “Give way” sign and crashes into a Kia Rio. There were no injuries, and the damage to the cars was not serious: the headlight and bumper of the Solaris were broken, and the wing of the Rio was bent. Alexander and the owner of the damaged car register the accident according to the European protocol and leave. A curtain.

How much has the country's vehicle fleet grown in 10 years?

Interesting statistical information about the number of cars registered in Russia has appeared on the traffic police website. According to the State Traffic Inspectorate, over the past decade, the country’s vehicle fleet has almost doubled – by 25.7 million vehicles, or from 34 million to 59.7 million units.

The traffic police note:

To date, more than 46.8 million cars , more than 6.4 million trucks , 895.5 thousand buses , 2.3 million motor vehicles and more than 3.2 million trailers and semi-trailers .

Even despite the crisis in the new car market, on average the number of vehicles increases annually by 2-2.5 million units , most of which are passenger cars.

In 2017, more than 11 million registration actions were carried out in the departments of the State Traffic Inspectorate.

Moreover, as noted earlier by other companies that carried out analysis of the Russian market, the largest number of cars are dispersed across large cities of the country, and there are especially many of them in two megacities - Moscow and St. Petersburg, here the number of cars runs into the millions. In other large Russian centers - hundreds of thousands.

It is also interesting that the analytical agency Autostat cited slightly different figures in 2017. Thus, the number of passenger cars on Russian roads, according to experts, has increased by 50% over the past ten years: in 2007, about 28 million cars were recorded, and in 2017 the figure exceeded 42 million units.

Let us remind you that the most popular models owned by fellow citizens remain a variety of domestic cars, including the bestsellers of past years Lada: from 2106 to Priora, Ford Focus and Toyota Corolla.

Today there is no need to wonder what a car is for. It has long been recognized by everyone that this is a means of transportation.
