What Chinese cars are sold in Russia

Chinese cars

Model range of all brands of passenger cars in China (new 2019-2020): prices for new ones in Russia and characteristics, reviews from owners, reviews and photographs.

The Chinese auto industry is developing at a “rapid pace” - manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom are not only gradually moving away from “banal cloning” of well-known models (tending towards official partnerships with leading global companies), but are also “pourding” huge amounts of money into the development of their own new technologies. And in terms of the total number of automobile brands, China is now second only to all European countries combined...

A few decades ago, not only ordinary people, but also the expert automotive community were far from the idea that in a very short period of time a powerful automotive industry would develop in the Celestial Empire, which would take a strong position on the world stage. But the history of the Chinese auto industry goes back a little more than half a century, during which it has experienced not only incredible ups and downs, but also significant downfalls.

As unique and unusual is the culture of China, so unique is the path of development of its automobile industry - the official “year of birth” of which is considered to be 1956 (it was then that the FAW (First Automobile Works) plant, built with the direct participation of Soviet specialists, began its work in the Middle Kingdom) .

In the first few years, this company produced trucks, but already in 1958 it created its first “passenger car” (which also became the first Chinese car of this format) - a six-meter limousine called “Hongqi” (intended for senior officials of the state).
But the “fuse” of the Chinese automakers did not last long - in 1965, the government of Mao Zedong decided to cancel the Soviet Union’s obligations to provide technical assistance in the construction of industrial enterprises, introducing the “Great Leap Forward” policy (as a result of which the production of passenger cars practically “came to naught” ).

The production of passenger cars in the Middle Kingdom gained a “second wind” by the mid-1980s - this time it was, firstly, based on “licensing relations” with European and Japanese companies, and secondly, it was based on the creation of joint ventures between Chinese automakers and , all the same, foreign partners.
Such cooperation contributed to the high pace of development of the Chinese automotive industry, as well as the emergence of many own brands. But even with this approach, the Chinese could not resist borrowing design and technological solutions (contrary to the wishes of the copyright holders) - they actively used such “techniques” in the second half of the 1990s

the first half of the 2000s (and some of the companies continue to follow them to this day)…

By the mid-2000s, there were over a hundred large and small manufacturers of passenger cars in China, but most of them did not pay enough attention to the quality and reliability of their products - which is why they were given the title of “Chinese consumer goods.” In order to overcome the prevailing trends, the Chinese government tightened the requirements for machine builders - as a result, the quality of local “iron horses” was noticeably increased...

Continuing its development at a rapid pace, already in 2009 China became not just the world's largest market for passenger cars, but also a leading automaker (producing more cars annually than all European countries combined).
Today, the Chinese auto industry is gradually moving away from “banal cloning” (models of famous automobile brands) to official partnerships with global automakers (at the same time investing huge amounts of money in the development of their own technologies). And this gives a visible result: in the 2010s, the Chinese are not only developing in “mad leaps” the production of “traditional” cars of all “formats” (from miniature models to executive sedans and huge SUVs), but are also making stunning progress in creating electric vehicles (though , such developments are so far only “local in nature”).

Well, if the Chinese auto industry continues on its set course, it will probably in the near future become a leader not only in sales and production of passenger cars, but also in terms of creating advanced technologies in the automotive industry.

The most reliable Chinese cars for Russia

The Chinese auto industry rightfully ranks first in the world in car production. The production volume is 19 million units per year, while the USA has 14 million, and Germany only 3. Although in the territory of the Middle Kingdom, local brands are not very popular.

Therefore, the fact that there are a large number of cars from the Middle Kingdom on the territory of the Russian Federation does not numb anyone (especially considering the territorial proximity of the two countries). Especially in the current realities, when some Chinese manufacturers actively use European parts for their cars.

There are many Chinese cars, they are all different and designed for different buyers. Every driver wants to feel protected in his own car, so it is not surprising that many car enthusiasts look primarily at the reliability indicator.

The rating consists of cars that are produced in China or assembled in Russian factories. The distribution of places depends on the results of strength tests conducted by the international company NSAR.

The reliability coefficient is determined by calculating impacts:

  1. Front.
  2. Side.
  3. Side impact with an obstacle.
  4. Collision with a car from behind.

Zotye T500

The car took first place in the rating due to its price-quality ratio, and 5 stars in terms of safety from the NSAR company. An urban crossover will please the owner not only with a modest price, but also with a decent appearance paired with powerful power indicators.

The gasoline-type power unit is capable of producing up to 156 horsepower, with an engine capacity of one and a half liters. Due to this, the T500 pleases the owner with a fast and comfortable ride in any conditions.

The interior is made primarily of fabric or plastic, but the finishing material does not cause any repellent odors and shows itself only on the positive side. The car has a panoramic roof, protective systems with 6 airbags, and a heated seat system. The approximate cost is 800,000 rubles.

According to many automotive experts, the Hongkwi X5 should take first place in the ranking, but the Zotye was slightly ahead of the sedan. Hongqi belongs to the premium class of sedans, of which there are very few on the market.

The car combines high power, sophisticated appearance and high-quality upholstery. The car operates on the basis of a power unit with a turbo mode, the volume of which is 1.8 liters. The maximum power of the Hongqi H5 is 186 horsepower.

The interior of the car will make the owner involuntarily say “WOW”. The control is controlled by the dashboard, which contains many auxiliary functions and a touch screen with color TFT, which will allow the user to perform all tasks as quickly as possible without being distracted from driving for long.

Frontal airbags are responsible for driving safety; there is also a “smart driving” mode.

The approximate cost of the car is 1,200,000 rubles

Geely Emgrand EC 7

According to tests from the NSAR company, Geely Emgrand EC 7 scored 75 points, which is equivalent to 4 stars of protection. The sedan belongs to class D, with dimensions of 460 cm in length and 180 in width. The volume of the power unit is 1.8 liters, there are 4 cylinders, maximum power is 127 horsepower.

Much attention was paid to this model by famous European specialists who created an individual design and modern equipment for the car. The cost is approximately 700 thousand rubles.

Great Wall Hover H6

The presentation of the car in Russia took place a little earlier than in other countries. The developers placed emphasis on the high quality of components and assembly of the car so that it remains affordable for the middle class. The appearance of the vehicle is not much different from a standard SUV, which is supported by high performance indicators.

There are 2 types of Great Wall Hover X6 freely available: with a gasoline or diesel engine. There are versions with manual and automatic.

The seats in the car are upholstered in leather, have front airbags, an advanced temperature control system divided into 3 zones and a high-quality sound reproduction system.

Car enthusiasts fell in love with the Hover X6 due to its high quality, which also attracts with its affordable pricing policy - 1 million rubles. Disadvantages include a high threshold for lifting and poor quality sound protection.

73 points according to NSAR. The car was created by English developers in tandem with Chinese manufacturers. The Rover 75 sedan is used as a basis; the dimensions of the MG6 are: 460 cm in length and 180 cm in width.

The petrol power unit with turbo mode has a volume of 1.8 liters and produces a maximum power of 150 horsepower. Safety is ensured by 6 protective airbags, a body with increased strength and 7 electronic security systems paired with a bunch of sensors.

Cost – 800,000 rubles.

Lifan X60 has become popular in Russia due to its affordable price. The appearance of the car can be classified as Classic; the color is available in 8 variations. The developers have added a new generation of headlights to the car, which operate on a diode basis. For safety reasons, the front bumper has been redesigned - it has become larger and more prominent; it is protected by a grille, which is additionally lined with an alloy of light metals.

The standard version of the car runs on a 1.8-liter power unit with a capacity of 110 horsepower. A mechanical transmission works in tandem with it.

Despite the modest price, the number of additional functions is impressive:

  • side airbags,
  • ABS,
  • EBD,
  • electric glass lifts,
  • electric mirrors.

To increase safety, the developers added a power steering wheel. The upholstery is of high quality, with a three-dimensional steering panel, and there is a high-quality multimedia system.

Many users note that the build quality of the Lifan X60 will be the envy of many European “giants,” especially considering that the average price of a car on the Russian market is 690 thousand rubles.

FAW Besturn B50

A sedan with a platform from Mazda, which is equipped with the famous GG version. The power unit from the Volkswagen holding has a volume of 1.6 liters and produces up to 103 horsepower. The standard version of the FAW Besturn B50 has EBD, ABS, an anti-theft system and 4 airbags.

There is an advanced audio system, climate control and electrically powered window lifts. The width of the model is 180 cm, with a length of 460 cm. Perfect for driving in the city. The approximate cost is 750 thousand rubles.

Geely Emgrand X7

Emgrand X7 is an excellent car with an affordable price policy. Suitable for both urban and off-road conditions, this feature is due to the high-quality suspension. There is ABS and a front airbag.

The base model is equipped with a gasoline-based power unit, which is designed for 1.8 liters with a power of 125 horsepower. The car consumes very little - 8.1 liters. A big plus is the stylish and solid appearance of the car, but the interior design does not cause the “WOW” effect.

The cabin has a temperature control system and automatic seat adjustment with 6 operating modes. 6 airbags (including front ones) are responsible for safety. Many car enthusiasts consider the Geely Emgrand X7 the best car in terms of price and quality. The average cost in Russia is 800 thousand rubles.

Chery Tiggo 5

Cherry Tigo 5 is a popular model in the crossover category. Despite its modest dimensions, the car has increased safety, is practical and easy to use. The power element is designed for two liters, has a powerful torsional torque, which interacts well with high ground clearance. Due to this, difficult areas or off-road terrain can be overcome quickly and without problems.

Under test conditions, it was proven that the Cherry Tigo 5 can overcome a ford perfectly, the depth of which is up to 0.6 - 0.7 m. The interior of the car will not surprise the user, but in no case can it be said that it is poorly made. The seats are upholstered in leather, and it is possible to adjust the seat positions automatically.

Most owners note the powerful engine and comfortable interior of the car. The only drawback is poor noise suppression. The average price of a car is 903,000 rubles.

Chinese SUV from the famous company. The car operates on all-wheel drive, petrol-based power unit version 2.0 T, which produces up to 251 horsepower at 355 rpm. There is a modification with a two-liter diesel engine with a power of 190 horsepower and 420 rpm.

Externally, the eighth Hawal looks like a standard SUV, the interior is lined with leather and has 6 airbags and 4 protective systems based on electronic and mechanical sensors. Approximate cost – 1,200,000 rubles.

Choosing a Chinese car

In this text we will tell you how to choose a used Chinese car, and which models are best to give preference to.

Don't be afraid of used Chinese cars

More than 40 brands from the Middle Kingdom are sold on the secondary car market in Russia. Chinese cars are chosen because of three undeniable advantages: affordable price, technological filling, and good build quality.

Contrary to popular belief, cheap does not mean “bad”: China has cheap labor. This allows you to save money when buying a car from this country. Cheap materials also help reduce the price: “simple” iron, short-lived plastic, “simpler” fabrics for upholstery. Accordingly, a used Chinese car costs ridiculous amounts of money. For people on a limited budget, such personal transport is better than nothing.

When releasing new models, Chinese manufacturers monitor reviews and improve the car. Therefore, 2-3 year old Chinese cars with mileage remain reliable and new, although the price is getting lower.

With the advent of the Chinese automobile industry on the domestic market, it has become easy to buy a jeep, because it costs the same as an average European or Korean sedan, such as a Jetta or Rio.

Many Chinese sedans have high ground clearance, and a “full set” will cost much less than European foreign cars.

The only serious “minus” of used cars from China is the difficult search for spare parts, new and used. They are just starting to be delivered to us in large quantities. For now, we often have to be content with analogues and what is sold at disassembly sites from the same “Chinese”.

Hot eight

We learned 8 facts about the Chinese automobile industry that will make you change your mind about cars from the Middle Kingdom.

    • The Chinese prefer cars from well-known European manufacturers. Four large concerns work with foreign colleagues and produce Asian versions of German and American brands.
    • It is prohibited to import foreign cars into China. Cars produced at Asian-European factories should also be exported from the country.
    • Some parts of Audi engines are made in the Middle Kingdom. For Korean cars, for example, Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, engines are completely assembled by the Chinese.
    • The Chinese auto industry has more than once received the maximum 5 stars based on crash test results from European laboratories. The pioneer was Qoros 3.
    • European specialists help ensure the reliability of cars and healthy competition for the Chinese. Foreigners are invited to design units and assemblies, and are involved in purchasing rights to individual developments.
    • Residents of China prefer sedans. It is believed that the longer the car, the better. Moreover, the tastes of the Chinese have already seeped into other foreign models: the Citroen C4 Sedan and Peugeot 408 are built on platforms created for the PRC.
    • Just a few years ago, automakers dreamed of opening production in the United States. Today they are throwing all their resources into China. You will find out why in the next paragraph.
    • The Chinese car market is the largest in the world. Residents of the country buy 19 million cars a year. For comparison, in the USA - 14 million. In Russia it is much less – 3 million.

Tens of millions of motorists around the world have chosen the Chinese automobile industry. We weren't afraid!

Why buy a used Chinese car?

You don’t have to shell out money for a European or Japanese foreign car if AvtoVAZ is not to your liking. Choosing a Chinese car is not so bad if:

  • You are a novice car enthusiast. The Chinese car is inexpensive to repair if you bend the bumper on a curb or scratch the door in the parking lot.
    • You're a girl. Most car ladies buy inexpensive cars with their own money. Some ladies take a very long time to learn to drive, and a foreign car from the Middle Kingdom is a suitable option for them. Mercedes is not very suitable for such purposes.
    • Are you a taxi driver or want to become one? The machine is inexpensive and does not require much maintenance and service. In addition, you can easily find a model that “eats” no more than 5 liters per hundred.

Where to buy a car from China

We choose a used Chinese car just like any other. There are three popular ways to buy and sell used cars:

  • in the showrooms of official dealers
Read more:  When is transport tax paid by individuals?

There may be good used examples for sale there, but the price for them will be inflated by at least 30-50 thousand. This is the seller's commission. But keep in mind: for this money they can also sell cars with a “secret”, which, if you solve it, you will shell out a decent amount from your wallet.

There the chance of running into a pig in a poke is even greater, but the prices are lower than those of the “officials”. Sometimes the reason for a discount is minor defects and malfunctions - for example, you need to replace the brake pads. At a car service it will take 20 minutes and will not require a large amount. The main thing is to check the documents when purchasing at the car market: you should have the original PTS, STS, and contract in your hands.

Finding a good option from a private owner is much easier than from a showroom or car market. He will raise the price justifiably (for example, if he sells good sound, leather seat covers, etc. along with the car) and will tell you how to service the car, what has already been changed, what needs to be completed. The only thing is, beware of outbid buyers, although you can buy a car from them if you are “hooked” seriously and for a long time.

Which Chinese car to choose

The choice of a Chinese used car can be made based on two criteria: make or model. We have collected information about the cars that are most often purchased in our country.

According to Autostat, over the past year, 68 thousand Chinese used cars were bought and sold in our country. A third of them are Chery brands. 16 thousand used cars sold – Lifan. New owners were found for 11 thousand Great Walls and the same number of Geelys.

By model

The Celestial Empire makes good sedans and crossovers. The top 7 used Chinese models included:

    • Geely MK. 1.5 liter engine with 94 horsepower. At your disposal are ABS, CD player, air conditioning, front fog lights. For 250 thousand rubles you can buy a 2-3 year old car in good condition. The higher the mileage, the greater the likelihood that the suspension is “killed”.
    • Great Wall Hover H3. A car with a 2-liter engine, under the hood – 116 horses. It’s heavy, framed, but in cross-country ability it’s comparable to the UAZ “Patriot”. If you like outdoor activities, forays into the forest, hunting and fishing, you can consider this model as one of the options. A used restyling can be bought for 600 thousand rubles, the previous version - 300-400 thousand.

  • Lifan X60. 128 horsepower, 1.8 liter engine. A standard city crossover, only several times cheaper than the Tiguan and Kuga. You can buy a good option for around 400 thousand rubles.
  • Lifan X50. Under the hood – 1.5 liters and 130 horses. A compact urban crossover, the model appeared on the market recently. You can buy a used one for half a million rubles.
  • Chery Tiggo. The engines of the model are different. The “pre-restyle” ones have -1.9 – 2 liters, 132-136 horsepower. The machine has proven itself in terms of reliability. You can buy a used one for 300 thousand.
  • Lifan Solano. Sedan with a 1.6 liter engine producing 106 hp. The model is visually outdated, but with proper care it will last for many more years. It will cost 200-270 thousand rubles, depending on the year of manufacture and mileage.
  • Geely Emgrand. 1.8 liter petrol engine, 126 horses. The car has good features and a good engine. Price – from 300 to 400 thousand rubles. The fresher the more expensive

If you don’t trust the “people’s choice”, look at the car yourself - there are thousands of reviews about Chinese cars on car forums.

Trust but verify

If your choice fell on a “Chinese” with mileage, study it inside and out. This concerns, first of all, the history of the car. If there are problems with banks, RSA, traffic police, tax, customs and other services, the Autocode service will tell you about it. Download the app to your smartphone and take it to a meeting with the seller. Enter the digits of the car’s license plate in a special window and after 5 minutes you will see on the screen:

  • Real mileage
  • Fines
  • Pledge
  • Participation in an accident
  • Customs history
  • Number of owners
  • Restrictions, traffic police bans, etc.

Be sure to inspect the car. You can do this using an on-site check from Autocode. The specialist will evaluate the paintwork, technical fluids, check the electronics, body, battery, inspect the interior and drive a little to evaluate visibility and control. To do this, fill out an application on the Autocode website:

  • Indicate contact details, information about the car, as well as when and where you want to check the car.
  • Click the "Submit a request" button.
  • Discuss the details of the check in a few minutes - a specialist will contact you.

The cost of verification is from 2600 rubles. All manipulations can be carried out in any place convenient for you or in a specially equipped box.

Be aware: any car may not inspire confidence at first. But if you are choosing between a technically sound 2-year-old “Chinese” with a clean history and a 10-year-old “German” that still needs to be adjusted, as well as pay the fines that hang on it... When buying a used car, first of all , connect your mind, not your heart.

Chinese car brands

Interesting Facts

To begin with, we want to introduce you to interesting facts about cars made on Chinese assembly lines and about the achievements of the automotive industry of this country as a whole.

Video about the Chinese auto industry:

  • Fact one: China's car market is the largest in the world. If on average in Russia and Germany about 3 million cars are purchased per year, and in the USA - 14 million, then residents of the Middle Kingdom lead the world ranking in terms of vehicle sales, buying about 19 million cars per year.
  • Fact two: car manufacturers used to strive to open production in North America, but now their attention is aimed specifically at China - the reason is indicated in the previous paragraph.
  • Fact three: among the Chinese, cars of famous European brands assembled in joint ventures are in high demand. The country has four large automobile manufacturing concerns - Dongfeng, SAIC, FAW and Chang'an, which cooperate with foreign manufacturers. On the local market you can find adapted models of Ford, Volkswagen, BMW and other brands. The import of foreign cars into the country is prohibited, as is the export of products produced in joint ventures.

Hot ten

Our rating includes various cars - both those produced in China and those assembled in Russia. It is based on the results of crash tests conducted by the independent company Euro NCAP in 2013. The reliability of cars is checked by a series of four blows:

  • frontal;
  • side - collision with another car;
  • hitting a pole from the side;
  • hit from behind.

When testing a car, the degree of protection from danger for the driver, passengers, children and pedestrians is taken into account.

    First place was deservedly given to the Qoros 3 car, to which the judges gave all 5 stars out of 5 possible. Its overall score was 88 points out of 100 - an excellent indicator for a model little known in wide automotive circles. During the crash test for the protection of the front seats, where the driver and passenger are located, the Qoros 3 sedan received 95 points out of 100, losing 5 points due to a slight excess of the permissible load in the chest area. The side impact test and protection of children sitting in the rear seats also gave good results, which allowed this model to confirm its reliability and top the rating. The car has the following parameters: length - 4.65 m, width - 1.85 m, engine capacity - 1.6 l, power - 126 hp. The turbocharged version of the engine produces up to 156 hp.

Before buying a Chinese car, I advise everyone to check whether there are spare parts for this car. I encountered a breakdown in my car, so what?! Delivery of spare parts is 90-100 days! There are simply no spare parts for these brands in Ukraine.

Agree. But now they are gaining more and more popularity. And there are many more spare parts. The trend is positive.

I drive a 2013 Geely MK, I’ve driven 45,000 km - no complaints. I only changed the oil and antifreeze.

New items from the Chinese automobile industry for Russia

Every year, worthy new products appear on the Chinese car market. Unique developments and new technologies are being introduced into production, bringing the Chinese automotive industry to the world level.

Reasons for the popularity of Chinese cars

The Chinese engineering industry is aimed not only at producing new products, but also at improving cars that have already rolled off the assembly line. Manufacturers focus on technical nuances and quality.

The national auto industry is gaining a reputation of a different kind than before. Instead of mistrust, an official partnership emerged with the leaders of the European automaker. The disdain of the average consumer has been replaced by the desire to purchase a good, inexpensive product.

The increasing popularity is noted by key factors:

  1. Price. A real SUV, a luxury model, can be afforded by consumers with modest incomes.
  2. Quality. The engine was given more power and the body metal became stronger. The plastic interior, which rattled like a rattle, finally acquired respectability.
  3. Exterior. Car enthusiasts note the imagination of the designers, technical discoveries, and rich options.
  4. Choice. Instances from small cars to jeeps of any configuration.

Interesting Facts. In the first half of 2019, 570,000 vehicles from China were registered in Russia, which is 1.3% of all foreign-made vehicles.

Criteria for ranking the best Chinese cars in Russia

Chinese brands are becoming increasingly common on Russian roads. This means that the demand for eastern “iron horses” is growing.

The choice of a particular car depends on the level set by the buyer. The features that determine casting relate to the characteristics of the technical means:

  • quality of raw materials;
  • safety;
  • price segment;
  • status.

It is important for the buyer to hear the opinions of other drivers who have experienced the “Chinese”. Photos taken while traveling on asphalt and off-road will make up a rating of the best examples among small and medium-class vehicles, crossovers and SUVs.

Top Chinese cars by price

According to the placement of brands, according to the financial component, budget Chery comes out ahead. Thanks to their low cost, Chery brand cars have held the lead in the Russian market since the first years of their introduction.

Compared to the Lada, the prices of the Chery Tiggo 2 are slightly higher and the functionality is wider.

A Tiggo 3 with rich equipment will cost 100,000 more than the domestic brand.

The characteristics of the Tiggo 5 are similar to the Renault Kaptur, and the cost is only two hundred rubles more expensive than ours.

The Geely Emgrand X7 crossover with a reliable running function is sold from 800,000. The Changan CS35 and Geely have a similar price. Among the new products, consumers highlight the Emgrand GT, H6 Coupe and H7 SUVs – about one and a half million. The premium H9 copy is valued at 2.3 million.

It is important for the buyer that the price threshold coincides with the quality component.

Rating of Chinese cars by quality 2018 and 2019

The best machines have high performance indicators:

  • power;
  • speed;
  • fuel consumption;
  • manufacturability;
  • durability;
  • unification of nodes;
  • ergonomics.
  • reliability.

The last property becomes decisive when casting a Chinese car. Not all European brands pass the test on Russian roads. In this regard, the Celestial Empire loses even more. Knowing this drawback, the developers strengthen the chassis and braking parts.

In 2018 and 2019, five improved brands took the lead:

  • Qoros 3 – safety of all road users;
  • FAW Besturn B70 – best performance on test drives;
  • Great Wall Hover 5: assembled together with Mitsubishi specialists, which guarantees reliability;
  • Chery Tiggo 5: the base was designed by BMW and Saab. Partnerships with leading European brands allow you to count on the durability of your equipment;
  • Lifan Solano: ensures comfortable, safe movement.

The best Chinese cars are in steady demand among foreign consumers.

The most famous Chinese cars

Sales of the Haval model are 33% more than last year (1,155 units). The former favorite of the car market Geely worsened its position by 3% (1051 units).

The Brilliance V5 was designed similar to the BMW X1. The crossover is equipped with a 1.6 liter gasoline engine with a power of 110 hp. In 2017, no more than 500 copies were sold. Low consumer activity is associated with a lack of information about the range of technical innovations.

Technical parameters: volume 1.5 l; power 150 hp; gearbox manual or automatic.

The price tag starts from 790,000, depending on the equipment, it rises to 835,000.

SUVs always remain in demand among our compatriots. The efforts of the Chinese automobile industry to please with new offers of SUVs and large SUVs are noted.

Focuses on the European car market. The design of the car in a modern dynamic style meets the expectations of buyers. Design features improve the cross-country ability of the engine with a power of 140 and 148 “horses”. There are “automatic” and “mechanical” options to choose from. The initial cost of the basic Atlas is from 1.4 million.
