I have a lot of cameras on one machine and there are no problems at all, because... from the factory. On two machines I made it myself and there are also no problems with the body melting, but the image is addicted.

By the way, I thought that cameras in headlights were relatively useless. But in winter it’s great. Snowdrifts when leaving the yards are higher than the car. You stick the car’s muzzle out a little and see what’s going on left and right. The road assistant is generally a cool thing, it includes an IR camera, it perfectly tracks pedestrians on the road at night, and immediately throws an image onto the glass. And these primitive cameras from the last century...

Camera and how to flip the image.

Camera and how to flip the image.

and so, there is a camera (China) installed on the car, it shows in reverse, Left-Right, right-left.
Tell me some kind of block or small microcircuit that will correct this problem.

P.S. If you turn the camera, left-right is normalized, but top-bottom becomes the opposite.

And so, here is this camera

It is installed in the side mirror and connected to the standard Toyota Monitor, the reverse definitely comes from the Camera and not the monitor, and there is no point in changing anything in the monitor because it is also connected to the rear camera, which shows normally.

You need to put some kind of block between the camera and the monitor. Otherwise, I don’t want to order another one from Ebay and wait 2 months, it’s better to spend these 10-15 bucks here.

I can’t post the link from eBay, it’s blocked by spam protection

On ebay, search for it

that's her

Added after 1 minute

oo the electrician installing the camera said that there was no jumper

Can you tell me more about the 3D block) what it is and what will happen if you delete it

I read the description on eBay of this camera, it says that it can be used as a front, side or rear view camera and nowhere is it written that it has the ability to mirror an image. Either the Chinese kept silent, or something else. Perhaps the mirroring function, if installed in your Toyota, according to the Chinese, should be taken by a monitor (well, at least for one of the channels). Maybe in the menus there is something on this topic in the monitor?

Even such a simple camera has the function Image Reverse: Left-right mirror in its description

ahhh I found it, the Chinese asked to indicate an option when ordering, to install it back you had to ask them:
B, Reverse image with guide line, used as rear view camera. (option B, image mirroring with parking lines, for use as a rear view camera). So you will have to wait 2 months or buy somewhere in Russia from resellers

has in the description the function Image Reverse: Left-right mirror

I found something

Please Specify where you will mount the camera, For Front view/ Side View,
Normal image is without guide line ; For rear view use, It will be mirror image with guide line.

I didn’t choose anything, i.e. The camera came with reverse for rear view.

I just need to figure out if this can be fixed somehow or if I need to order a new one.

Selecting rear and front camera

In this article we will give answers to all these questions and try to help you understand all the technical characteristics of rear view cameras for a car.

So let's get started: initially we need to decide what kind of camera we need? Usually, installing a rear view camera is sufficient, but in some cases, when the edge of the hood is not visible from the driver's seat or it is necessary to park closely in front, in this case it is also necessary to install a forward view camera. So, it’s clear that car cameras are divided into rear-view and front-view cameras (of course, there are also side-view cameras and overtaking cameras, but that’s for another article). The difference between front and rear view cameras is that the front camera gives a direct image, and the rear camera gives a mirror image (this is very important!) Otherwise, if you install a camera with a direct image back, objects behind the car will be displayed in reverse.

Rear view cameras (have a mirror image) - are divided into:

  1. universal (cameras in the license plate frame, overhead, mortise, etc.) suitable for all types of cars.
  2. standard cameras for installation in the place of license plate illumination
  3. standard cameras for installation in specially prepared places by the vehicle manufacturer.
  4. standard cameras for installation in the trunk opening handle

Cameras 1 and 4 are usually located in the center of the rear of the car (equidistant from the ends of the bumper), while the monitor displays a symmetrical picture of the space behind the car. Cameras of types 2 and 3 are usually slightly offset from the center of the car, because they are installed in the left or right license plate illumination. This must be taken into account when maneuvering in reverse.

Standard sPARK cameras for installation in license plate lights have a transparent mount that exactly replicates the standard lamp, in contrast to cheap cameras that are cast entirely with a mount in black plastic (when installed, the left and right lights will be different). In sPARK cameras, this is excluded because in most camera mounts the backlight (bulb) remains standard, and if an LED is installed in the mount, then, if desired, the client can order the same LED from us for installation in the second license plate illumination. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention that to maintain the tightness of the license plate light, the mounts for sPARK cameras are provided with double-sided tape, see photo 1 , which is usually not found on cheaper cameras. It is also important to pay attention when choosing a camera to the appearance of the camera and the quality of materials; in most cases this will affect the dust and moisture resistance of the camera -IP. Explanations on this indicator are provided below in the article.

Photo 1. Double-sided tape ensuring tightness

Front view cameras (have a direct image) - are divided into:

  1. Universal (framed cameras, overhead, mortise)
  2. Standard, for installation in a logo or radiator grille.

Some cameras can combine a rear, front and side camera in one body, and the camera has the ability to switch the image from direct to mirror and vice versa.

Now let's move on to the most interesting part - the insides of the camera and technical characteristics. Of course, the quality and “quantity” of the image will depend on the contents of the camera - the electronic part, the matrix that forms the video image and the lens.

Matrix type - there are two types of matrices - CCD and CMOS. CCD matrix - charge-coupled device (CCD - charge-coupled device). This type of matrix was initially considered to be of higher quality, but also more expensive. If you imagine the basic principle of operation of a CCD matrix in a nutshell, then they collect the entire picture in an analog version, and only then digitize it. CMOS matrices (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor, CMOS), digitize each pixel separately. CMOS matrices were initially less power-consuming and cheaper, especially in the production of large matrices, but were inferior to CCD matrices in quality. Recently, CCD matrices have reduced energy consumption and cost, and CMOS matrices have significantly improved image quality, especially after a technological revolution in the production of CMOS sensors, when, using ActivePixelSensors (APS) technology, a transistor amplifier for reading was added to each pixel, which made it possible to convert charge into the voltage is right in the pixel. This provided a breakthrough for CMOS technology; by 2008, it had become practically an alternative to CCD matrices and it is difficult to say unequivocally which is better - CCD or CMOS matrices.

Lens type – the camera’s viewing angle and how long the camera will reproduce a good image will depend on the quality and type of lens (the surface of the lens will not be scratched). sPARK cameras use high-quality wide-angle lenses from one of the leading Chinese lens manufacturers. The viewing angle is indicated in the technical specifications of sPARK cameras.

Television lines (TVL) are a characteristic of video image resolution that determines the number of horizontal lines in the frame. The higher this value, the sharper the image. Sometimes TVLs are also called horizontal resolution lines (LoHR) or simply resolution lines. The number of television lines is calculated TVL = horizontal resolution / AR, where AR is the image format 4/3 or 16/9, respectively. For example, the matrix resolution is 680 horizontally by 512 vertically, the matrix format is 4/3, we get 680*4/3=510 TV lines. As can be seen from the calculation, this parameter is directly related to the resolution of the matrix, which is usually measured in pixels horizontally and vertically.

Photo sensitivity of the camera, measured in [lux] - This characteristic of cameras reflects the ability of the camera to show a picture with objects visible on it in the lighting conditions of the object; most car camera manufacturers indicate this characteristic not for the matrix, but specifically for the camera (together with the lens), this value indicated for the illumination of a stationary object (unlike video cameras for shooting video, it is necessary to distinguish between moving objects), which is visible on the screen with an accuracy of 150-200 lines horizontally (this is a sufficient condition for using cameras in car parking assistance systems). 1 lux is equal to the illumination of a surface with an area of 1 m2 with a luminous flux of radiation incident on it equal to 1 lumen.

Rear view camera, redesigning the view.

The rear view camera usually mirrors the image. And most of these cameras are. If you want to purchase a camera to monitor the front hemisphere, then your choice is significantly narrowed. Below the cut we will try to correct this annoying circumstance.

The camera arrives in a cardboard box, the package is as complete as it gets:
- camera
- manual
- fastening nut
- shielded video signal wire
- power cable with voltage converter
- two pieces of double-sided tape
- bit for drilling a hole

Studying the description does not add much information - there is only one description for a large family of cameras, and the technical characteristics of your specific camera should be marked when completing the box. But they are not marked.

Let's look at the store's website for specifications:

Effective Pixel: 420 TV lines
Lens Angle: 170 Degrees Wide Angle
TV System: PAL / NTSC
Power Supply: DC 12V
Support NTSC video system

This is what the camera looks like from the outside:

Thread diameter 17.5mm.

Crown with a margin of 1 mm.

The wrench nut is 22. It is a little larger than this size, so you may have to use an adjustable wrench.

The length of the thread is such that it will be possible to put on the nut and make at least one and a half turns if the thickness of the wall in which the hole is drilled is no more than 8 mm.

The rear panel of the camera is secured with four self-tapping screws. Unscrew:

The inside of the body is filled with compound. It feels like loose rubber. We're digging.

We managed to get to the board. It took about 15 minutes, the tool was a scalpel, a sharp screwdriver and a cotton swab with alcohol. Lucky. This camera allows you to control the image.

The contact pads are left on the board and the meaning of the pins is even labeled. You can flip the image, you can turn mirroring on/off, you can turn lines on/off. There are also unsoldered SMD components on the board that can switch the pal-ntsc mode. In practice, the number of lines in the frame changes and the colors become slightly brighter or dimmer. There, on the board, there is a place for connecting the +5V wire and a free area, apparently for installing a tiny 5 -> 3.3 V converter.

Yes, the camera is powered by 3.3 volts. To prepare it, a 12-3.3 stepdown converter is installed on the power cord. The current in the 12V circuit is sometimes up to 120 mA, but mostly about 80. The converter gets a little warm, of course it’s tolerable to the hand even during long-term operation, but it’s still warm. I decided not to leave the camera on for a long time.

For experiments, I had to connect the camera to the TV tuner built into the computer; it has a low-frequency tulip input. Immediately it began to show the picture, albeit slightly noisy. This makes itself felt either by power supply noise or interference inside the system unit. I soldered the wires to the contact pads so that I could change the camera settings without opening the case. I didn’t forget to bring out both the ground and power wires; you need to close the control wires to them.

Read more:  Who can apply for compulsory motor liability insurance other than the owner

Then I took neutral silicone sealant and carefully coated the board.

Returned the cover to its place.

Let's see what we got.

When the flip wire is connected to +3.3V, the camera flips the image. The remaining two wires are triggered when there is a ground fault. This is what it looks like:

Let's try to estimate the viewing angles:

A ruler located at a distance of 12.5 cm from the camera near its center is visible at a length of 25 cm.

You don't need to be Euclid to guess the viewing angle is 90 degrees horizontally. With a 4:3 aspect ratio, the vertical angle is 67 degrees.

This is noticeably different from the stated 170. Perhaps 170 is diagonal? No, I got 107 degrees diagonally.

The camera itself is tilted from the installation plane by 50 degrees.

Thus, the viewing sector is slightly short of the plane of the part on which the camera will be installed.

Let's start the installation. I will put it on the front of the car, instead of an unnecessary logo. I already have a rear camera and a monitor, so the job will be easy. Let's estimate the installation location:

We insert the camera and screw it with a nut. We insulate the wires with heat shrink.

Ready. Then you will need to plug the logo holes.

This is how it looks from the side.

And this is what it looks like from the interior:

From the bottom edge of the frame to the license plate is about 8-10 cm, so as soon as someone else’s bumper reaches the bottom, it’s time to hit the brakes.

The camera works, the price is low, the picture is good, there is no noise when installed on the car. Current consumption is about 80mA. The tightness was complete (I hope it will remain so after my intervention). It is relatively easy to adapt this camera to your needs, if you have specific ones. The manufacturer has included the possibility of settings. The disadvantages include the viewing angle being smaller than stated and slight (really small) heating of the power supply.

The camera will help in tight parking; it will allow you to see a scooter thrown in front of the bumper, or a concrete hemisphere installed. In winter, you can simply clear it of ice and slowly drive it around the yard, looking at it while the main glass thaws.
