During the winter period ( December, January, February ), the operation of vehicles of categories M1 and N1 that are not equipped with winter tires that meet the requirements of paragraph 5.6.3 of this annex is prohibited. Winter tires are installed on all wheels of these vehicles.

A period different from that specified in paragraph one of this paragraph may be established by the legislation of a member state of the Eurasian Economic Union in connection with climatic and geographical factors characteristic of member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.

In autumn and spring, road surfaces and air temperatures change rapidly. Therefore, neither summer nor winter tires in their classic design can provide maximum grip on the roads. Tire manufacturers recommend changing shoes in the “summer”, when the average daily temperature is steadily fixed at +7 degrees Celsius. But the weather is still far from positive stability, so we are encouraged to drive on winter tires for now, but remember their features and adjust your driving style to the weather conditions. The most dangerous thing in such weather is studded tires - steel tips, which are designed to bite into ice and snow, slide helplessly along dry and especially wet asphalt.

“The most difficult situation in such weather is for owners of studded tires who drive mainly on city roads. These tires are designed for regions with severe weather conditions - from 0 to −50 degrees Celsius. Therefore, they need to reduce speed in advance before turning and calculate the length of the braking distance with a margin. In addition, above-zero temperatures and bare asphalt contribute to the loss of studs,” Ilya Shabalin, an expert at the 4tochki tire store, told cars.ru.

Winter tires, when plus, literally melt and rub off on the asphalt, which increases their wear. However, the catch lies not only in the studs. The composition of the rubber mixture for winter tires is different - it is much softer than summer tires. So the friction clutch is also dangerous in warm weather, especially in the Nordic segment, that is, designed for harsh conditions at temperatures from 0 to −50 degrees. “On dry and wet roads, winter tires in the Nordic segment will lose up to 30% in braking compared to regular summer tires,” Michelin explained. On wet asphalt, a car with non-studded tires does not slide, but “floats” and “steers”.

The safest in the off-season are non-studded tires of the European type, the so-called “Eurowinter”: they are designed for mild winters with operating temperatures from −20 to +10 degrees, so their properties are designed specifically for the current weather. Only in our area such tires are practically not in demand.

Due to their softness, winter tires literally melt and rub off on the asphalt at high temperatures. This means that they wear out much faster - firstly. Secondly, the rolling resistance of winter tires, as calculated by Continental, is 15% higher, which significantly increases fuel consumption !

Until the weather settles, tire experts unanimously insist that it is too early to wake up tire fitters from their winter hibernation. Goodyear clarifies that frost and ice formation are still possible in March, especially on suburban highways, bridges and overpasses, and this process is accelerated by strong winds. Why is March: this year the weather is funny with sharp changes during the day: pieces of ice on the roads turn into streams of water, the next day everything dries out and the asphalt heats up, and at night a month’s worth of precipitation may fall, which in the morning will turn into impassable snowdrifts. Therefore, for now we remain on winter tires, but remember the nuances.
